Power full stuff, and also one of my all time fav. tracks.
Who could have done this last night better?? This is how you REMEMBER the dead heroes of music , you cheer and scream for them with like minded people! That was a great idea
"You forgot one..." :) Not sure if Fred ever played there but imo you could have mentioned him just the same,he was yours after all.
THX for this,touched
Oh..and eternal shame to the city of NY for not intervening!
@skaterthump32 It was great... I remember laying on the floor there years ago and ordering drinks and they served me without blinking an eye.... The place was about freedom and expression. I saw some great great acts there. Down in the Bowery.
Wonderful tribute at the end. CBGBs not being protected by the city is ridiculous. I woulda had to have drank alot to be like that guy who said "you forgot one" (a lotta nerve to intrude on the moment!), but I was listening for Wendy O. Williams. Another great one from that era that we're missing.
The closing of CBGBs could not have had a more appropriate song. Yes, this was one of the most underrated songs oF that album. I loved it back in the day as much as I love it now. GO Patti rip Hilly
I saw Hilly on the Bowery within minutes of this. I asked him to sign my NY Post insert about the closing of CBGBs and he snarled back that I was gonna try to sell it on EBay.
You make it sound as if I was dissing her! I hope I do have such beauty and energy at her age. Look at my comments - I say she is gorgeous! And she is :)
Well lucky you that it was not YOU that I called "sugarplum". Its just a word I personally use to describe someone I find very attractive. I like it when anyone gives me a compliment, no matter what word they use :)
Well, I used google images to find out what a sugarplum actually is, and I found 3 differend flowers and 2 kinds of sweets. I would not like to be any of them, too pink for my taste.
CBGB,Inc. makes millions of dollars a year. The owners of that building don't. That's not to defend landlords, but CBGB,Inc. is alive and doing quite well.
BUT the building has a shitload of history. The Ramones, Sex Pistols, come on! any big punk band (and hardcore and so on and so forth) have played there!
I love her. After two decades she's still the woman who drives me insane. Her music is brilliant and runs circles round most of the rubbish which passes for music these days.
Oh, my. She is so beautiful. This has reminded me of how ecstatic I was when I saw her perform (May 2007). Best show of my life, I couldn't keep my eyes off her. Not to sound like a crazy, or a stalker. But it's the same in this video, I just love to watch (and listen of course). Bravo!
That was the most heartfelt thing I've seen since I was in the presence of Joe Strummer. Simply perfect. I remember seeing Patti when I was 12 at cbgb's (my dad took me, thanks dad). I never thought like a 12 year old again.
I met Patty Smith in Ann Arbor MI. after the memorial concert/service for Allen Ginsburg. Someone has the video footage of her and Natalie Merchant at the Not Another Cafe after the service. This was 1996.
you realize the sadness of losing richard sohl when you hear the keyboard player play the wrong chords during Patti's beautiful vocalization in the center of this song.
I discovered Patti late in my life and now, at 45, she gives me chills with her gritty, "no apologies" lyrics and powerful voice. She is a heroine in my book. Love ya, Patti!!
All.. err, most of the punk rock greats started at CBGB. It WAS a dumbass idea to move it to fucking Vegas. They should have kept it in CA. Anyways, Patti's awesome.
I love Patti, am so sad for her losing her husband Sonic and so many comtemporaries. The late '70s and next 15 yrs were the best of my life with such great music to dance to! Debora Iyall of Romeo Void is still with us, thank God, and she can still rock as much as beautiful Patti...the best women singers ever!
It looks like someone's trying to take aim at her with a laser-sight throughout. I was really worried we were witnessing some kind of assassination attempt...
RICHARD SOHL. Died aged 37, June 3rd 1990. He was Patti's keyboard player. That keyboard you hear playing over the names she's reciting? He wrote that, he played that on the original recording. He played with Patti the first time she played CBGBs. She made him there for the last.
thats terrible, shes nearly crying, its so sad to think all these amazing people have died, theyve all played on the stage and thats the end of it all the end of every thing
Thank you for recording and posting this. I tried and couldn't get tickets. I actually forgot Sirius was broadcasting the show?!!? Very grateful to be able to see these perfect and final moments of an historic event. I was sitting here bawling like a mental patient, To the Future!!!
Rest in Peace, Hilly.
