  • is it the original mall from the movie 1978

  • 0:16 escalator zombie FTW!

  • i llive by there! :D

  • My father always said. When there is no room in hell. The dead will shop at Macy's.

  • Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-Zombies!!!

  • its in MENROVILLE PA

  • OMG, that first shot of the garbage bin brings back memories, lol. I used to work at the Radisson Hotel/Expo Mart and had to push that fucking thing around. That second shot is of the Radisson "south tower" which was torn down when the hotel changed over to Doubletree. A Radisson employee died in the south tower while on duty , I was there that day. It was kind of spooky to be alone in that room after that (it was an employee only area). R.I.P. Frank.

  • PILLS

  • so now wait is this mall still in Pittsburgh or...? please let me know!

  • ok we get it, this mall wont be open forever

  • ive been here

  • this is the mall from dawn of the dead, love it

  • i have the original version of the gonk, forgot how i got it, think limewire but limewire is no more :I

  • You know what's funny? All of the people commenting on this video thinking you meant it was a Dead mall...LOL! This is the mall from DAWN OF THE DEAD. It's not a dead mall at all!

  • You could film this any day at Uniontown Mall, in Uniontown, PA.

    Sadly, it's true.

  • that lil playground thing in the begining reminds me of the one in dead riseing

  • SUch a goddamn shame! Mall looks like at one time would've been FULL of top-notch HOT girls...

LOVE the soundtrack song to this video!

  • Nicely done.

  • LOVE IT!

  • Excellent job! I loved every minute of it.

  • ive made a promise to my self that im gonna go to this mall before i die :)

  • "We'll get it all locked up...then we're going on a hunt..."

One day I'm going to see this mall for myself. Dawn Of The Dead is the greatest horror movie ever made, ever. The huge lights in the parking lot look almost exactlty same as they did in the movie.... You even managed to get a shot of the corridor that Peter and Stephen built the fake wall over. Outstanding.

    Great job bud.

    Peace.

  • outside pitsburg ay?

    hmm....

  • Monroeville Mall isn't a dead mall...try going there on the weekend or during the Christmas season. You can't move in there. I'm from Monroeville and the mall and shopping area around the mall is usually bustling. The mall itself is actually in pretty good shape but this movie is well made. Kudos!

  • This mall does not look dead.It looks like just a quiet weekday at the mall.

  • @HattieLovesCattie i think you're missing the point

  • @ManlnCognito No,I'm not missing the point. Many malls are sort of empty during the day.I have seen dead malls but this mall looks much busier than others on Y T.This mall was not empty,a few people were inside.

  • @HattieLovesCattie "Mall of the dead"...the poster is referring to the mall where the original 70's dawn of the dead was filmed. The Monroeville mall (this mall) is a Mecca for fans of that film. The music in this video is from the sound track of that movie ...it has nothing to do with it being empty.

  • @ManlnCognito Whatever.

  • @HattieLovesCattie Just admit that you're wrong, wipe your mouth and move on..no biggie. You missed the point, I enlightened you and now you're in the know.

    "whatever" = infantile

  • @ManlnCognito So I missed "your point".I know about this mall and the movie etc etc.I bet you're the b**ch in your family with a mouth to match.I feel sorry for your mother.I bet you had potty mouth that never quit.I'm blocking you, you're very unpleasant.

  • @HattieLovesCattie Wow...that's allot of hostility there, all I did was point out your ignorance. No need to have a seizure. Go take a Midol and lie down...you'll feel much better in the morning.

    .

    "potty mouth"...LOL

  • @ManlnCognito OOOh,I see you pix. You're a bald old man from little old England. The " malls " in England are so tiny.I guess mall vidoes on YT are more interesting than watching pathetic English soccer.

  • @HattieLovesCattie Old? according to your profile I'm 15 years younger than you. And please don't call anyone profile picture if you haven't got the self confidence to put your picture up.

As for malls? I have no interest in them at all, my interest in this video stops with the movie that was filmed in one.

And I'd take "pathetic English soccer" over your boring fagball...what's with those tights?..lol

  • I am also sad that you can use the DOTD theme, lol. :( My video got flagged and I had to re-upload it with another song.

  • I absolutely love that place. I finally got to experience it for myself last year sometime. I didn't have the chance to check out everything that I wanted to. :( I hope that I get a chance to go back and see more. Great video!

  • cool

  • i didnt see any clock in the mall.

    is it removed?

  • nice!! it has all the places from the movie and remake!! Im gonna like it! but all those vending machines werent in the movie... sad.. still..

  • I love dawn so much I'd give my left nut to go in that mall. Is it just me or for a mall its pretty empty though?

  • so sad to see it into a ghost mall

  • it looks like it's falling to bits

  • @ManlnCognito no its in good condition I was just here on Saturday, and in 2004 they did a renovation.

  • What a motherfucking terrifying place. Creepy, creepy, creepy!!

  • monroeville mall must be the abbey road for zombie[ghouls] fans.

  • i live right by the monroeville mall and have been going to it my whole life!! i didnt realize it was this popular until a few years ago...yes its almost exactly the same as in this video

  • Someone told me the mall hasn't changed much. It's literally still the same from when they shot the film.

  • @savere2006 its not really the same, they replaced the ice rink, the fountain, the clock tower, the lights on the pillars, the bannisters on the second floor, the parking lot on the second floor above where the food court is, they removed the stairs that were on each sides of the mall, but I was here when it looked like it did in the movie, now its different. only thing thats the same is the escalators and skylights.

  • is this in america?

  • Yes. In Pittsburgh, PA.

  • @gritboy Isn't george from the area?

  • @21Assasin He sure is. He even worked on Pittsburgh's best known television show - WQED's Mister Roger's Neighborhood.

I want to know if the SWAT siege at the start of the film in Philly was shot before the real-lifeshootout with MOVE that happened the same year that the film was released. Pretty eerie if it was George foreseeing how that might all end.

  • @gritboy I thought so he's very proud of his home town, from what i see in the DVD extras.

  • @kimmysquirt09 If you have to ask, you must live here....No one else from any other country would have to ask.

  • @kimmysquirt09 yea r tard its in milwalkee wisconsin he he i been there

  • there has always been an almost creepy and interesting vibe and atmosphere to almost all big indoor malls like this.

don't know why, it happens on lot of levels, even symbolically - a large tomb like experience of "consumerism"

  • damn I love "Dawn of The Dead" (1978), my favorite movie of all time and love the music in it

  • is that really where they filmed dotd?! god i love dat movie

  • was that ur son??? if is hes cute and awesome

  • The last minute of the video was hilarious.

  • My first visit to the mall was in 1998 before they remodeled. The original square light fixtures were still there and the old white metal railings. They have since been replaced with what look like lamps and and glass railings. I liked the "vintage" look better. I have pictures ...

  • bye bye hello walmo

  • I would sure hope not, Monroeville doesn't have a Wal-Mart but there's not too many places to build one if it ever does come this way. I sure hope they don't sacrifice the mall in favor for another of these big box monstrosities.

  • Looks like Boscov's was still open when you filmed this video. I was there a few days ago and was appalled by the mall's condition. Increasing vacancies and not to mention the space where Boscov's was still hasn't been filled yet. I hope it doesn't get worse but I guess most of the malls in the Pittsburgh area are taking the brunt of it.

  • gosh :D its creepy :D good filming if u know some other clips of an dead mall plz link coz i like malls from the 70s, the carpets and seats and the long hallways and everything in there :D

  • Well, if there is that interest... I have a TON of footage of the old Mohawk Mall in Schenectady when it was on its last legs. barely anything left. I'll dig that up. Thanks!

  • i went there last week, it had an exibit dedicated to zombie films in the back of a place called toy galaxy

  • Have you put up the Schenectady Mall clip up yet?Don't eat at the Applebees there.I ate there on vacation 4 years ago and was served raw steak and demanded another ( cooked ) steak.

  • @gritboy Did you ever find your footage of the old Mohawk Mall?I'd love to see it.

  • @HattieLovesCattie Not yet! But I was just thinking about it. One of these days... It's creepy stuff!

  • WOW!

Great job at getting all this footage before time runs out on this malls life.

Its a shame that these malls that have so much significant importance in culture end up getting closed up and knocked down, not landmark status that they should get.

  • great video! you really covered everything!
