400 watts will never due to my standpoint of view. I use a 1200 watts powered speaker and it is crazy loud. But that amp will do good for a small venue up to 50 people. I use my 1200 watts powered speaker speaker for very large venue up to 300 people and works perfectly. Oh and Marvin, it is all about the sound quality to say.
In mono where available.... I just installed a club system with over 9200 watts. Its headroom that counts. They may use 2000 at once. I wouldnt put this on my monitor highs. Two is one and one is none. Great voice though!
What the heck is a professionally trained disc jockey, you either have the talent or you don't.... With that aside, that title still doesn't qualify you to give technical advice since while you make a few good points it's too overwhelmed by the bad advice you're also giving.
You know the sad thing is, that some of the things he says are correct in the right context. For example, for a lot of events you really don't need the thousands of watts some people will say you need. Also, it should be noted that every time you double the power, you only add +3dB...but even then you do need the headroom, and if you ever do a large event, you need a lot more power than that little peavy amp if you are going to play to a younger crowd in a large venue, and want any low end.
As you watch this guys videos, you see the cheapest effect light on the market, the cheapest cd players and mixer, and here a really old, low power mono and cheap amplifier. Is this the guy you'd want to hire for your wedding reception, or your party? I would imagine he doesn't charge much either, or he shouldn't. I'm no elitist when it comes to gear, but the gear he uses would only pass for small house parties, for a complete starter DJ. I've been in he business about 23 years.
what a crappy DJ!...that amp should be donated to good will...he's been using it for 25 years? geeze! this guy is really low quality!...I play stereo, it makes a difference, i use powered speakers...that amp is a piece of shit!...how embarrasing!
who does this guy play to? in a theatre which is an ideal setup were running 400 watts PER SPEAKER! and they are usually on quite a high setting. were using 400watt RMS cabs as foldbacks. no one i know who is mobile or otherwise can do anything with a 400watt peak mono amp. also ive seen that amp used on guitar halfstacks more that FOH audio. in short id suggest get rackable gear and get decent power 400watt mono is a peice of crap or better yet get active speakers
i agree with the mono statement, stereo is only good if you have headphones on! but dont buy a mono amp! just plug your playback source into 2 centre panned mono channels (you usually get more e.q. scope on these channels too) you will need more than 200 watts, that is pure bull s**t, i take out a 6kw nexo rig, this is still only 2 x 10"s and 2 x 15" subs. get the biggest amp you can afford. i use crown itech amps, but you can pick up the xti range really cheap on ebay and they are awesome
Amplifiers today are much smaller and lighter than that beast you have been using for over 20 years. They also probably cost less than you paid for that amp 20 years ago.
Are you JOKING!!...A prof, with a pa amp?? 400 watts??.. Well I dont know where he DJs but in England you would be put in the class of the POOP!!..You need atleast a 12000 - 15000 watt, not just to get a good volume but to get good quality, & also it depends on the amp you buy { Of course}.. Never employ a dj who uses a band pa for a amp..& not a 400 watt one, well unless you want to have a party in your bedroom that is, It will be fine for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUSH!!!!!!!
Peavey DPC-1000 Thats my amp of choice ... 1 rack space tall and plenty of power to blow the doors off the place! I use (2) Peavey DS-1502s on top of (2) Peavey DJS-1800 subs!
maybe you dont need all the power in your living room but when your doing a gig for thousands of people or dance teams trust me your gona use alot more then 400 watts your gona use a rack full of marco techs all linked
did ya'll know that the 1969 woodstock was powered by about 500 watts or so...none of you whipper snappers dj's will believe me but the really old school pro audio engineers will understand EXACTLY what im saying..
@djfingersflores yes that was the max for 69 but today technology is alot better people deserve today's quality & I dont mean just power in general Im talking fidelity,& MONO! Bridge mono to your subs thats it!!! 80% of the music is recorded stereo so its Intended to be in stereo.people listen to music in stereo Ipods, stereo systems,You can't tell this to young djs or better yet Kids Run,Run for your lfe!!
morons, yes so you have 10 billion watts. wel um sory to burst your bubbels but i DJ with two 10"inch 400 watt tops. with horn tweeters. and you know what... i have played music in realy large venues and the crowd was happy, in one venue i evin putt my 2 speakers all the way in the corners of the venue to get more bass the speakers filled up the whole venue yes the 2 "shity small" top cabs. let me learn you all a lesson. its not what you have.. its what you do with it, that makes the diffrance
On some of this guy's videos, he's spot on, and then on others, he goes off the cliff. In this video, there's some truth in there, but utter lunacy as well. There are some parties that you CAN do with maybe only 200 Watts, but other gigs you'll need maybe 2,000 watts. It depends on client, venue, music style. Don't worry about sound quality??? That's the kind of talk that gives us a bad rep with the audio professionals.
Mono is actually just fine. You'd be surprised. With all the echo and room reactions in some of the acoustical nightmares we call venues, you may not be able to tell any difference between mono and stereo. I still generally run Stereo(still prefer it that way) on my tops (mono on subs of course), but I had a failure in my signal chain one night, and had to chain one powered cab to another, so it was mono on tops, and you couldn't tell the difference in the venue.
Again, on power requirements, a lot of you are using a lot less power than you think you are. That's not to say that you never need it, we get big amps for when we do. Keep in mind though, when choosing equipment, to go for the most efficient equipment that you can. For every doubling of power, you only gain +3dB which is just enough in large venues to notice a difference. (cont)
(cont) If you get a horn sub that has a SPL rating of 106 dB, you can get 130 dB out of it for only 256 Watts. If you get a 18" Bass Reflex sub that is rated 97 dB, it will take 2,048 Watts to get 130 dB out of it. These are extreme examples, but hopefully you get the idea. Get the most efficient equipment you can afford. Also, don't believe the claims on cheap gear, they totally LIE.
Lastly on this topic, keep in mind that you gain more by buying efficient good quality cabs, then getting tons of power into low quality. Also, you gain a lot more loudness by using more cabs, than by trying to pour a crap load of power into just a few cabs. In addition to the law of diminishing returns, there is also what's called power compression, causing you to gain even less than +3dB per double of power, once the coil gets to a certain temperature.
to begin with thats a monitor amp. i worked for a music store and that amp may put out about 150watts max. sorry man but unless your going to play live music or playing an keyboard or guitar with that amp i would not use that amp.
Umm, that "amp" does not put out 400 watts! Maybe 100 RMS and thats pushing it. Really Marvin you really need to go back to that school you were talking about and actually learn something because I think you missed a few classes!
Check his eq "Curve". Quite clearly a knob. Don't need stereo? Huh?!! Not if your powering subs, because as Marvin will know, bass IS mono and non-directional. But for mids and tops? What a cock sack! LMAO!!
no disrespect to an olskool dj but pls this is like coming in to do a wedding or a party with thongs and a singlet on.But thanks for your effort on trying to help other upcoming dj's outhere. But this ain't the way to call yourself professional times have changed bro accept it or fade away.
pls marvin have a look at this young guy corey on youtube 'cgd31095' really inspirational young kid who's invested in small and big gear this guy would be able to take on small or big parties with the gear that he's invested in.Sorry to say if you took that amplifier to cater for 500 people let alone 200 people they would cook like a frying pan when you crank them nothing againts peavey their great amps. It's just too old, mono and not powerful enough.
Ffs...Mono...lol ok so who trained this over actor...Jim Carey? I use 2 x Peavey's 2800....I never use more 200 watts ...pmsl
40 ft apart? wtf where does he play? and I have never heard drums one side and guitar the other since the Early day recordings like Roy Orbison and then that was because Stereo was new on vinyl!
Marvellous lol Basic is right! its a Monitor amp what a plum!...and watch the bit at 1.40 he even points to the wrong side of the amp and tells you the make
listen guys i gig in a rock band and peavey stuff is great but you have to get the right stuff.Every touring band from black sabath to eric have a peavey cs 800 power amp in there rack it is the standard of the industry for roar worthy gear .Peavey speakers are great to but you have to use black widow skeakers and scorpion are good to . do your homework.peavey is good
there's nothing wrong with Peavey. they outlast alot of stuff. QSC is superior no doubt but Peavey is respectable. Anyone whos been around knows that.
Well your very old school, My dad used your power monitor amp for his 12in floor monitors and he said it was't goog as in power, that peavey was out in the early 70's ...I recommend you in you do'nt have that much money to buy a amp=u can get a american audio VLP1500 for less then 400 dlls...but mybe u also need yo upgrade your speakers...really that amp is really old school....
whats with the rubbish intro's and shameless plugging of bands? its very obvious that your earphones are not plugged it. and try talking about RMS, and i think you'll find that 200-300 watts RMS amp's can easily be used up, even with a pair of 12 or 15inch speakers let alone huge floorstanders like you refered to in another video.
