Indeed... As you can hear, the sample demo was practically the final recording of the song. According to many biographies of MJ, he could only be credited as co-producer of any song in Thriller if authorized by Quincy due to the contracted previously signed. A different story happened on the recording of the album Bad as MJ was a lot more careful with what he signed.. Check the credits of all the songs in Thriller and in Bad if you have the original albums and you'll see.
