I love the monotonous government narrator. I mean I hear that guy on all gov't videos...even the ones where they show you how to destory an ashtray...that guys must be reeling in the dough....
I worked on here as an ic tech from 93-95. Wow yeah working on the america was the best job i ever hated lol. Tore me up when i learned that they sunk her. . . . shame.
I served onboard this great ship 92-95 in 3MMR. Dam I don't miss the Navy but I do miss all my old shipmates...I got off TWO Days before her last cruise..I wanted to change rates but I would have to go on the last cruise and I did not want to do another MED...She was a great ship....God Bless the America and her shipmates
I take it back - after watching pt 2, and seeing the Phalanx installed (as well as the use of "Eye of the Tiger") I'm really confused! I was there when Phalanx (CIWS) was installed (America was the first carrier to get it) and Eye of the Tiger was released in the 80s if I'm not mistaken. Must've been after I departed the pattern. Which means it was, honestly, a lot cheesier than I originally thought!
It's one thing to be 70s bad in the 70s - but 70s bad in the 80s....
What year was this from? Looks (and sounds) like around 76-77. I worked in the Tower (highlighted at about 5 minutes in) from 78 on and I don't recognize the Air Boss.
@murfreesborough yea it looks like from the 70,s since i was on her from dec. 80 to mar. 84. they should have made her into a museum instead using as target practice. america66ify
This had to have been pre-80's due to the lack of F-18's. I was there from 77-81 and we did the first carrier quals of the F-18 in 1980.

Thanks, Jollyrogerdoc. I left in 81, so that explains it.
