  • oil and gas were enclosed just in case. Gas does not last 50 years. lol

  • so did they dig it up??????

  • What a ridiculous thing they did. That car would had been better in the hands of a car enthusiast. I surely bet it would be in better condition than this heap of rust and junk. My respect to those who are trying to restore it, but for the looks of it better go and buy any used Belvedere, LOL.

  • I agree! If they just garaged it, it would still be new. The people who thought of this should have been buried in the tomb along with the car, what a bunch of idiots!

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Would've been better off just burying the car in saltwater!!

  • ALL THE GEAR AND NO IDEA!

  • "They took every precaution in the world..." Well, not EVERY precaution. They should've put a drain in the vault...

  • It's CHRISTINEEE!!!!

    Wow...amazing.

  • The ancient Egytians, using rocks hand tools, built chambers that preserved artifacts pristinely for thousands of years.

Americans in the atomic age, with bulldozers, modern surveying equipment, and concrete, couldn't preserve something for 50 years any better than if it had been left out in the weather the whole time.

    That says a lot.

  • Yeah, we knew it was messed up before we even opened it... oh well. They still sold tickets to the, apparently "paid for" back in 1957, event! $20 a pop to watch a rusted pile of crap be raised from a hole that caused traffic delays and required lots of construction to fix.

    Yay...

  • What a damn shame & waste, oh well it would be interesting to taste that Schlitz beer.

  • Dug it up and the capsule leaked big time. Wonder how the beer tasted.

  • doesnt look white in the black and white footage.

  • 1957 had no illegal aliens in Tulsa when the car went into the ground. The Cubans were the threat back then.

  • Yo.....learn the language.

  • Viva Brasil!

  • Fico feliz de ter participado desse momento histórico, apesar dos problemas de engenharia na época ter quase destruído o carro.

  • If the saga of the 50-year-old car interests you, check out the title track from my new CD, "Plymouth Belvedere," released just last month (country tune about an embarrassing old car). Can you relate? Please pass the word along, particularly to any radio stations in Oklahoma that should be playin' the song. Google "Trish Lester" and you can hear the song and read lyrics on my music page. And, of course, the CD is for sale, too. --- Trish Lester, Singer/Songwriter, Santa Clarita, California

  • The reason it wasn't presevered as well. They had to move it when they remodeled down town tulsa.

  • It was neat though just to see itl. ((Yes I'm from Tusla)) i watched it be pulled down the street. it was neat just to see a piece of history.

  • Worthless? No, not this one. The car will be restored to new OEM condition, and sold- probably on ebay- for a ton of cash. You watch.

  • A full restoration of this car would be unfortunate, in my opinion. After all, the way this Plymouth acquired its patina is as unique as it gets!

  • omg! imagine all the kids, grand kids, sons, the mothers, the daughters, all are disappointed... only to find that it actually worths 'less' than it did in 1957.

  • Definition of pathetic. Losers that get on here to bash americans. Sure wish you were doing it in German like you should be.

  • Drains backup. What they should have done was sealed the car in a steel cannister liek the time capsule and welded it shut. The contents of the capsule did not age a bit and everything in it look brand new.

  • HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!

Tulsa time capsule people = dumbasses

  • GEE I THOUGHT THE 2 OL' GALS WERE HOTT !

  • Americans celebrate 50th birthdays of cities? lollerskates. The cathedral in my city is almost 1000 years old.

  • It's not the 50th anniversary of the city... 1957 was the 50th anniversary of the formation of the State of Oklahoma. 2007 is the 100th anniversary of the formation of the state. The formation of Tulsa does not coincide with the formation of Oklahoma. Some Oklahoman cities have been around since the 1800's.

  • haha i was just thinking about the time i went to westminster abbey and realized there was nothing in nyc that even came close to that. and this? even i think this is stupid.

  • Its a shame the car was damaged. But, they should have made a better capsule. Better yet, they should have locked a MAN in the tomb with food and water then released him 50 years later to a whole new world.

  • lolol

  • That is some funny shit right there - release the buried Tulsan! What condition will he be in - pristine, or rusting away? Open 'im up and see what's inside!

  • Tulsa buried a Plymouth Prowler in 1998. I bet they now wish it was sealed in a vault ABOVE ground.

  • I think you people need to see my post for the REAL TRUTH about the 1957 buried car. I have 5 seconds of coverage on the REAL Belvedere before it was tossed out by the media...

  • "Three men from OSU's automotive school pulled the cover back and there she sat. Mrs. Belvedere was in ruins. Just destroyed... I was totally bummed and the old people around me really took it hard... --- mold/algae covered engine.

  • I like that sign it shows at :51 "Suddenly its 2007!"

    Well Suddenly IT IS!

  • Yup it is sure rusted but really straight...maybe Boyd Coddington could step up and restore it to it's former shape...the interior looked to take the worst.

  • Wow! What a nice car it was and hope still is! Maybe it will end up on E-bay!

  • Oh God.... She didn't survive like we had hoped.. She will not run.

    -Tulsa Native-

  • Is there a video yet of what the car actually looks like??

  • They finally revealed it : /watch?v=ye4WOha1f2k

  • so sad that it came up all rusty, but at least the time capsle made it!

  • Tonight is the night for the results... so far, from the pics I saw, things do not look that great as it looks like the car was resting up to its neck in water. Dont think this car will start with a new battery and starting fluid.

  • Also, the actual capsule and remains of the car "made it" The vault on the other hand didn't do as well. So much for being nuclear blast prrof as they claimed.

  • This clip is about a damn car/timecapsule...wtf are you talking about all this other unrelated issues for? Who is ignoring a truth here?

  • Sooooo. Looks like the capsule didn't quite make it.

  • I'm pretty excited. In about 3 hours, they'll unveil it on the News on 6.

  • With all due respect, Peachy, unless the Tulsa riots of 1921 have something to do with a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere, you are in the wrong part of cyberspace. That's why you seem eccentric. I suggest that everyone else ignore Peachygoil.

  • yes please ignore the whole situation.what a great first 100 years.the race riots have every thing

to do with Oklahomas first hundred years.Thats why

were celebrating this retarded car.but lets just

forget that part of Oklahoma's history.ohh the good old days.

  • I'm not "ignoring the whole situation," my friend. In fact, I am a published author of African-American history. My point is that you made only a tenuous connection between the two events. According to your logic, the car is somehow related to every damned thing that's ever happened in Tusla--or Oklahoma, or the U.S., or .... Get some perspective!

  • have you ever been in Tulsa.unfortunate for me

    i live here.And their is a connection.if were

supposed to fall for the good old days bullshit

then no those weren't good days for all Tulsans.

And that same rage toward Blacks and Whites

still exist here in Tulsa today. But you're an Author

right you would have known that already right.NOT

  • excited to see what it looks like...

  • Every American City (maybe every metropolis of consequence on this planet!) probably has a skeleton this bad or worse in their closet, and you sure can't undo the injustices of '21 by bringing it up here. Why not lighten up and focus on the car like the rest of the conversants here?

  • Its an interesting story. Yea I guess its easy for you. Seeing as the injustice wasn't against your people, it wasn't your people killed. Classic reply. Learn to to put yourself in others shoes. there was a lot pain my friend. If it was up to people like the pain would be forgotten. And that is why that pain is still here. PS, I was talking about the entire country. Sorry to put a damper but when someone calls... never mind

  • What about the driver?? is he still there??? oh my good! poor guy!!!

  • Well, it's obvious from this footage that Tulsa's bicentennial time capsule should be an above-ground affair! Now that we know the Plymouth isn't pristine, it will actually be interesting to see just how much she's deteriorated - sort of like diving on the TITANIC for the first time.

  • the golden age of america...shame about now :)

  • Yep the golden age especially with the Racism.

  • I just saw some of the pictures and I'm heartbroken. I HOPE it can be restored. I just LOVE vintage cars, especially one like THIS!!! :P

  • I feel like I need a tetanus booster just looking at it.

  • If you go to flickr and type in "tulsa plymouth" you'll see photos of the submerged vehicle. It is a shame they didn't dig very deep for a place where the water could go to and drain out... Very sad. It is probably in very rough shape. Hopefully it won't be a total loss and a local restoration shop can do its wonder.

  • We got to see the unveiling of the car today, as my office is on the 3rd floor of the C.A. Building. The car was right under or office windows. Kind of sad to see that it was under water.....and at one time or another, fully submerged.

  • the fin on the drivers side ruptured the cosmoline bag and shes gone.

  • I went to the site this morning and the lid was taken off

the concrete vault and the car was sitting in water up to the headlights.

You could tell it once had water over the top of the car at one point.

The car is still covered with the wrapping but it doesn't look good

  • Those late 50's Plymouths and Dodges are the most beautiful cars i can think of...hope that '57 still is in good shape!

  • I wonder if the case of Schlitz tastes any better today than it did 50 years ago.

50 year old beer, a pack of Viceroy's and a car full of sewage.

Life just keeps gettin better everyday!

  • Her Vault was opened today and the was water in it.

    doesn't look good.

  • My guess is it will be pretty rusted and the tires possibly withered. The engine will start after some tries, you heard it here first.

  • 3 weeks to go :-P

Im a big Mopar fan from Holland, got a '68 Barracuda..

I wonder how this car would look like.

But I think when it's reavealed (sorry for my bad english :-P ) that the car must be fixed, get rid of some rust, and put it back in there for 50years !!

It's a great worldwide known story, and I would love it to see this happening again over 50years !

  • The time is drawing near! I'll bet it still smells new!

  • Id take that Plymouth over any modern car. What style, unlike todays plastic disposable eggs.

  • Diamler Chrysler will also be here to see this too for a photo shoot....only in T-Town.

  • hell yea, im with this guy, best car ever made by chrysler corp!

  • I think these, 1957-1958, Plymouth cars are one of the best looking cars ever made. I driving over 800 miles to look, and/or win this car. If I win it, I'm going to fix anything that might be wrong with it, and drive it all the time. I'd raither drive something like this old Plymouth, than these plastic, tinny crappers, we call cars today.

  • hell yea! im with this guy, best car ever made by chrysler corp.!

  • Thank you for this video, I'm European but 8 years ago I read this incredible story and since than I never forgot the date 15.06.07!

I already placed a topic saying about the Tulsa event in a Portuguese forum about classical cars.

1957's Tulsuns didn't even think about they're time capsule as a worldwide know event.

    Regarding the beautiful Mopar I do believe that his condition is not that bad, maybe some rust in the chromes, flat tyres and some moss but it will be in the road again. :}

  • I'll be there on June 15th fighting for a spot to see this car unearthed. Very cool.

  • Make sure and take your video camera.

  • whats that stuff they sprayed around it? Cement? :D

  • Im not Sure???

  • Gunite

  • Sorry...the stuff sprayed over the concrete is Gunite.

  • im from tulsa i love you for posting this thank you

  • Thanks for posting this video. My dad was in his 20's when the car was buried. He's still alive, so we will be there when it's unearthed. I have owned many Chrysler products, so I predict that the car will be a total rust bucket. LOL
