  • God. I love him...

  • perfect!!

  • so so so so goood. :D

  • hmmm this didn't impress me on so you think you can dance last night when he performed it. but now i think differently of him after seeing this video. excellent job, very talented.

  • saw this live last year, soooo goood couldn't stop raving about it for days!

  • BRAVO DANIIL

  • This is a fantastic version but I would like to know why the film of your Dad Dimitrij doing the same dance taken off Youtube?

  • Oh how wonderful I saw you perform this live at the Vail dance festival! I loved this piece a lot it was one of the best performances of the evening!

  • You take ballet to the Olympics. Really, one of the gods.

  • Magnifique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Merci :)))

  • bravo!!!!

  • i saw him do this last year in the gala at YAGP NYC finals. he was amazing!!

  • brilliant ....Bravo

  • J'adore ! Bravo Daniil !

  • Awesome

  • you are AMAZING, daniil!

  • wtf?!

  • Vai ser sempre o meu melhor *..*

  • adorei muito bom ele danca muito bem ☺☺☺

  • M e encanta =).!

  • Question, did you choreograph this yourself, or have other dancers done it to this Brel piece. Is this all yours?

  • @lisa8220 If you search on YouTube you will find other dancers who have done this piece. Somewhere once I even saw it danced by Daniil's father, Dmitri!

  • @Jennifer71 Thanks for reminding me of this. It will have to go in with my Valentine's message to many sisters. Did you see the one when he and his father are dancing together! That was a thriller in manilla, too. But we must give our regards to Jacques Brel as Muse, and puppeteer too.

  • Daniil, I think this charmed me most of all your videos. I'm new tocomputer, but watched Russian Folk Dancing with Red Army Chorus, and other the Cossack dance, and saber dance, and your performance is a tribute to your forbearers. I loved this one the best. To have that acting ability at such a young age, you were taught by people with real soul who breathed it right into you.

  • saw it live tooo!

  • @vjlys29 as did i->toronto he is sooo good

  • Also saw it live last night, SPLENDID! omg he got like double the enthusiasm in applause compared to the other dancers and justifiably so!

  • I saw this live last night. It's splendid. Awesome. Love the jumps he did!

  • God he moves so fluidly! p.s. I've seen enough film to the point where the french and cigarettes seem to be almost synonimous...

  • STUPENDO !!!!!!

  • No puede existir una persona con estas caracteristicas!

    AMAZING, HERMOSO, FANTASTIQUE..........

  • 跳得真美

  • He performed this in Indianapolis last night... and I believe he stole the heart of every audience member with it. He definitely got mine!

  • WAO bellisimo!

  • I have become addicted to this. You are so talented. And extremely handsome.

    Sigh.

  • @TheBalletGeek me too. :) I super duper LOVE IT. :) PERFECT. :)

  • you are FANTASTIC

  • i saw you both times you've danced in Athens with Zaxarova and your GALA. you are amazing, an angel that dances..but the one thing i'll never forget was how the audience those nights <including me>high jump during " Les Bourgeois"

  • what a beautiful boy

  • i saw this live too, and this made my day

  • One seldom sees a dancer in whom dance technique and acting are so melded. He doesn't act as well as dance; the two are one in him. The Callas of ballet? Time will tell, but it looks that way. This young man is very special.

  • I love Dinu Tamazlacaru version!! He is soo good, his face is so expressive and his jump are extraordinary!!! brilliant!!

  • love this dance I want to use some of the steps in my play cant wate to see what the cast thinks

  • je n'aurais pas pu imaginer mieux ^^ c'est vraiment très beau ce que tu fais...

  • Buena interpretación, pero Carlos Acosta lo supera con creces en caracterización y emotividad, quizás se deba a que Carlos es latino.

  • is not just about the choreography is about the tecnic, and the presence he has.

Why you dont just upload a video of you dancing this, where you can show us how easy is this epic fail.

  • Ummm, Notice how i say he has brilliant tecnique? Or did you decide that there is no such thing as constructive critisism? Yes i agree that he is probably the best young ballet dancer in the world but the choreography was horribly prosaic.

And did you not notice that you are arguing with me by using my main point anyway?

  • just PERFECT

  • perfection

  • Oui, oui.... :)

  • LOVE YOUR DANCING... SO much

  • If i can be half as good as simkin i'd be the happiest guy in the world.

  • Wow, this is crazy.

  • i saw your performance in panama... and i absolutely admire you ... i think you are the best dancer right now...actually my friends at our dance school are trying to figure out how you do your jumps, but i think you are great, keep up the good work!!!!! :D:D:D:D

  • ohhhhhh

  • I think that it is early to say that he is the best today but he is excellent!!!the ballet dancer has to have very good jumbs AND expression of course thats why ballet is so difficult.Simkin can approche perfection and i am waiting to see him

  • he has awesome control!

  • will you marry me?? ^^ you're wonderful

  • The thing is. He's NOT on skates. And that's the point...

  • he is breath-taking, there is no objection. However, a dance show is not for a dancer exhibiting gymnastics skills only- like in evey sport- that is why dance is not considered a sport. so, we should be careful not to forget the expression and sentiment aspect in dance. so , simkin may execute THE BEST JUMPS IN BALLET HISTORY, (though you can look up e.g. Soloviev in the 1960's) however, this is not enough to consider him superb in everything.

  • please daniil is a very good baby face dancer YURI SOLOVIEV is an UFO,may be the best dancer of all times.his jump and ballon has not comparation.daniil is pretty soloviev was superman.

  • @vagiam But this performance is arresting from the beginning. Simkin would be a brilliant mime artist even if he couldn't dance. It would be more reasonable to criticise Carlos Acosta's version (also on youtube) for being about "gymnastic skills only". He looks like... well, a star dancer pretending (badly) to be drunk. The jumps are the only merit of his performance. Not so with Simkin.

  • @Bhoeble I think miming to be drunk is not so sophisticated when today you have dancers (Netherlands, Forsythe) expressing- not miming- much more deep sentiments, even thoughts.

I never said his technique is not perfect, I just stressed dance is not only technique. and expression is much more that smiles and grins.

try out some old videos of russian ballet where the narrator describes the way jumps are executed. or try observing the expession of past ballet dancers, so clear and yet simple,

  • @vagiam You actually said that "dance is not gymnastics only" which suggests that there is nothing in this performance that a mere gymnast could not do, which is not the case.

Your comments about sophistication and expression dispute assertions that have not been made and imply criticism of Simkin's performance for not being something it doesn't attempt to be.

Dance cannot express a thought; when you think you see a dancer's thoughts, your imagination is externalising your own thoughts.

  • @Bhoeble my first comment, if you go back, was on the audience's attitude to simkin's performance in athens, not to simkin. so, what I meant is that applauding to his jumps specifically, shows that the audience considered his dance as if watching ice-skating or gymanstics. a couple of days before simkin, the zurich ballet acted in athens megaron, and the room was half empty. so, all in all, my objection was on the criteria of the people, and not in any case on his dance.

  • i see what u mean i ve also felt the same but he completely took me by surprise when I saw him at a gala called intensio in athnes. He opened the gala with a beautiful and he was really expressive I didn t know he was that goos apart from the jumps. I think tha u should give him a chance and appreciate the hard work its obvious that he has put into it ;)

  • saw him on PALLAS THEATRE ATHENS, TOO, ON 13/12/09. this choreography is so behind its time. dancing is more than jumping and spinning. next time watch a gymnastic tournament instead if you want something really spectacular.

let alone that they simplified kitri's part in the don quixote duet so that he would show off his jetes.

really spectacular he is, but dancing is not gymnastics.

  • dancing is about expression and entertainment and he does just that!! I saw him too on the 12th and I completely disagree with you, he is expressing this song and the atmosphere perfectly. So young but so mature!

  • it all comes down then to how one perceives the purpose of a performance: for me, expression is more than doing something spectacular and the audience clap, is more about giving the audience food for thought.

all in all, my objection is not with the dancer, but with the audience's attitude. even artists nowadays, in order to survive, have to give the audience what they look for. that is why ballet schools all over Greece are shutting down, and everybody starts on oriental and hip hop crap.

  • speechless...I saw the last day of the Athenian performance @ Pallas theatre... I really have no words to describe such a talent! a great BRAVO!

  • Daniil, ur absolutely stunning!

  • Just saw him perform this piece last night in Athens (December 2009), and I think he has now refined it to the point of perfection. The leaps and piruettes seem even more effortless that in this video; as if just part of taking a stroll in the park.

  • The new Baryshnikov !

  • @evealicelucienne I daid the same thing. I hope he never gives up ballet for something more comercial....

  • AGREED. (actually thought it was baryshnikov--lol)

love him!!! and i disagree with the ppl above..... he is expressing a lot and im sorry, if you can do the 'tricks' and do them w/ grace and with utterly perfect technique that Daniil does, then he should.

  • whoops, under me. lol

  • acting....dancing....powerfull...technique....oh my god you are...amazing !!!! you are mr.simkin!!! an no one else..

  • Amazing. Maturity maybe needed but awesome. Does anyone know who choreographed the dance ?

  • @frostyoriginal

Ben Van CauWenbergh. :) great choreographer ... <3

  • I love ballet !

    Daniil, you're my idol ! :D

  • the next baryshnikov??? you're amazing!!!

  • i love love love the 'casanova' part, it's genius. he can act AND dance like few can. now that's something.

    Bravo

  • J'adore!!!!!Il n'y a rien à rajouter.

  • e is brilliant but the only critisism id give is tat e didnt really portray a drunk man enough because this piece is about a drunk man

  • I am sorry, but you should perfect your french (which is probably quite good), but this song is NOT about a drunk man ; it is about the youth-minding and the old one ; you made a mistake with "Jeff"

  • I SAW THIS LIVE!!

  • The new Baryshnikov !

  • he is not manly enough to be like Misha he is precise like him but not strong like him also Misha was an excellent actor too Daniil not so much

  • He's brilliant! I saw him last weekend up at Bard College. He is one of the great ones. Plenty strong, and you are completely wrong about his acting.

  • This is just lovely. For some reason he reminds me of the young Oksana Baiul, only a ballet dancing male. Same charisma and charm and sort of not taking self too seriously....not to mention technicque.

  • wow. so far, this is my favorite. although the more older people really show good technique and character, this has more. even the facial expressions. amazing! also i do enjoy the back-flip thingy more in this video, as it stays more airborne and your able to keep your back and legs up. nice job!!

  • me encantas!!! ojala vengas a bailar a España, no me puedo morir sin verte bailar!! me encantaria ser la mitad de buena de lo que eres tu.

  • I definitely saw you perform "Tico-Tico" from Company B at Bard College in October. You are incredibly talented.

  • désolé pour la cigarette, c'est un chose assez desagreable... Mais le reste, a mon avis, une interesent interpretation!!!

  • What I love most about this particular piece is that so clearly communicates a story. I may not know the words, but I still feel like I know what is going on.

    GREAT facial expressions!

  • c'est fantastique

  • Amazing! Performed with such style and class.... simply amazing! It brings back so many memories, both painful and sweet, yet all enjoyable. Complete ecstasy. *sigh*
