If you're cycling there and you can see into the parked vehicle (eg: tinted windows), or the big headrest 'might' have a smaller person sat in the seat, give it a wide berth.
We have cycle paths like this in the UK, and I tent to ride in the outer edge of the cycle lane.

Outside rush hour it's about the same speed either way, minutes in it for most journeys, but when things get busy... well, "Time Machine" is a good name!

My ride to work varys each time I ride because thats nature of my job. Getting the opportunity for varying terrain and routes always makes it interesting. Luckily for me though I don't get the traffic snarls like you do. It's good living in Melbourne.

Most car/bike collisions happen at intersections, and the most dangerous place to position a bicycle in one is on the left edge! In an intersection, you want to be in the travel lane that serves your destination: left or right turn lane if you are turning and the left-most through lane if you are not. cycling in the travel lane positions you to better see and be seen.
I don't ride any more. Got hit by a taxi which was 100% his fault. He ran in to me in the bike lane. I got broken bones etc. It's like Russian Roulette you could be killed any time. People just don't see you and there's nothing you can do about it.

The cycle lane you're in isn't the safest type.
It puts you rght in 'the door zone'

Look up copenhagen city of cyclists on youtube, they do it properly.

lol, in America most people don't ride their bikes, everyone has cars... but then again, I live in a state where it rains 300 days throughout the year, so:-/ Adelaide people seem more outdoorsy to me.

Most car/bike collisions happen at intersections, and the most dangerous place to position a bicycle in one is on the left edge! In an intersection, you want to be in the travel lane that serves your destination: left or right turn lane if you are turning and the left-most through lane if you are not. cycling in the travel lane positions you to better see and be seen.

I don't ride any more. Got hit by a taxi which was 100% his fault. He ran in to me in the bike lane. I got broken bones etc. It's like Russian Roulette you could be killed any time. People just don't see you and there's nothing you can do about it.

Very amusing looks you were getting from people. They have obviously never seen someone that angry on a bike. Also from what I gathered you had a giant novelty tripod with camera attached to your bike.
People never seem to give a crap about cyclists. There was a news story just recently around here about bikers getting nearly rammed on purpose by drivers. I don't know what goes through their heads. Oh right, nothing.

Oh and about the bastards who stand on the road - I hate the taxi drivers at Caulfield station because they stand on the road and there is this divider island between the lanes and they leave 1.5 meters for you to drive there. Why not stand on the fucking pavement you fucking morons?! One day I will speed up to a 100 there and kill me some stupid for dinner.

The bit with the cabbie opening the door on you reminded me of a similar thing happening to my old man, except he went over the door, broke his neck, and spent 8 weeks lying on his back in traction.
He eventually made a full recovery, but suffice to say that I when get out of the car now I always double check for cyclists.

I have never seen so many bicycle commuters before!
My city has a few sporadic bike lanes, but they are extremely narrow and tend to end in the middle of a road so you have to merge with traffic.
