Video is all black for me too. I just came back from the 3 day weekend in Yosemite. I heard about the Fire Fall and came here to view vids of it since they stopped doing it.

I can't believe that they used to do this! National Parks in the US have morphed from a controlled, human-centered version of "nature" to a more wilderness-centered (for lack of a better term at this moment)image. Of course, this is a huge generalization, but golly, anyone ever been to Carlsbad Caverns? Could you get away with making an underground coffee shop today?

When I was a kid in the early 60's we used to camp for 2 weeks every year at Yosemite right under Glacier Point. To a kid the Firefall was a magical experience.

What stopped the firefalls,they were in many national parks,was not the one in Yosemite burning the park down.Firefalls,that started wildfires,in Great Smokey Mountains and at Stone Mountain ended the practice.The firefalls in Yosemite never started wildfires.

too many tourists were going to the park for man made attractions... i saw a vid at the park and thats wat the ranger said

There was that,too.Different parks were using firefalls to get people to show up.The wildfires at Great Smokey and Stone Mountain weren't that bad,but they did add to the decision.We're supposed to go to Yosemite because of Half Dome and Yosemite Falls,not because someone on Glacier Point "knocks their barbeque over" as I've heard a nature photographer put it.

Thanks for the memories.. my parents use to take me camping when I was a kid and we got to watch this in the evenings .. Yosemite is such a beautiful place.
