  • They found it offensive because of his red hat. They said he never wore one

  • Aw c'mon - did anyone insult the Pope or portray him in an offensive manner? I am a Catholic man myself and I found this to be pretty funny.

  • It's a plastic world..

  • were can i get a pope bobble head

  • ebay

  • I still think this is a cute commercial. I know many thought it was disrespectful, but I don't think this rises to the level of "Catholic bashing" and I am a regular mass-attendee who is normally pretty sensitive about that stuff.

  • Check out JadeMusic54 for more Gregorian Chant! The real deal! Genuine & Great Stuff!!

  • Look at Mount Graham Arizona. There the Vatican owns a deep space telescope - looking for god OR Planet X! There they exterminated squirrels and the Apache Indians. Check it out. Dont be fooled sheepy flocks! "McCain pushed through congress the so-called Idaho and Arizona Conservation Act of 1988. The bill passed in the dead of night and, in the words of one University of Arizona lawyer, it gave the astronomers the right to move forward "even if it killed every squirrel"

  • He wasn't holding the handrail.

  • Duh! He's the bleeding pope, he don't give a phuck about handrails! ;D

  • well, after 7 anti- Catholic or anti American comments, 1 defended Catholicism. This is proof that society is decaying. The Pope, and other religious leaders can hopefully bring the world back into the light before it descends into darkness. I won't even address any attacks on the Pope. All of you are either too ignorant, or too biased for me to care.

God Save America, and the Pope.

  • HQAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

  • We actually studied this video and the Pope's entire visit to America in my Religion and Media class.

Just FYI - This commercial was "deleted" because the Vatican was upset that the bobble head is wearing red -- and red is the color the bishops wear, not the Pope. They never said they were offended or anything.

  • God is real. The pope however serves another god. His name is Lucifer (or "Satan"). God has authority and His Spirit is real! A man has no authority. The one exception was and is Jesus who lives in the flesh in heaven!

  • Yea these are all opinions, and remains so without any evidence.

Doing something similar to you are doing:

God is real, foundingfathers7 however serves another god. His name is Lucifer.

Eitherways if man has no authority why are you reading the Bible that was compiled by bishops? Translated by St. Jerome and why did Jesus give authority to Peter when he said "what you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven..etc etc."

Just don't comment, think, already you have contradicted scriptures. Bye

  • The Christian game is up. The whole Mediteranean Myth is now proven to be wishful thinking. Challenge yourself: read Joseph Atwill's book CAERSAR'S MESSIAH

  • You are aware that both the Roman Empire and Jewish society accepted the existence of Jesus since he popped up?

  • I'm not sure that that is so. But ,so what?

  • um, why would this offend people?!?! i mean, the pope is just another guy, why do catholics praise him? idk because its just like praising people, he isn't born again, he has no connections to God. Don't mean to offend anyone but still, i watched for a couple minutes and i all saw and heard was "praise the pope" i didn't hear anything about praise God

  • There is nothing wrong with praising the Pope, perhaps if they said 'worship the pope'

Pope John Paul II was praised a lot, and rightly so for doing what he did, he was one of the most admired men. It's not wrong to praise anyone.

  • wait, HumaniGeneris, the pope didn't do anything, and what i meant is they were saying, "praise the pope he is pue & holy" (or something close to that)and saying crap like that, no MAN is pure or holy, i mean we can have our sins forgiven from Jesus Christ if we ask Him, but the only real Pure & Holy people is God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit (and His angels)

  • Firstly, catholics don't believe the pope is all pure and holy. We call him the Holy Father, because that's just a distinction given to him here on earth but it doesn't literaly mean he is on par with God.

Like you said the 'only real pure and holy people' you made a distinction there, 'real'.

There is also a saying 'all glory and honour to God' but it's just a saying, a lot of people honour other people, it's not the same as worshipping and you have to understand the context.

  • nazi are cold blooded reptilians, that is why they are killers.

    watch?v=X7QoUrt9sD0

  • The correct spelling is 'sacrilegious'. Know a word before you use it, even silly, medieval ones like this.

  • I am a catholic and i think the boobleheads are sacriligious .....So for all you that have one apparently dont respect the catholic church and the authority the pope has on earth

  • the bobbleheads are krunk....

we found some in washington in this little rinky dink chinese store the night before we left...

i thought this video was pretty funny too...some people need to stop loosing their panties over it... I'm Catholic, and I wasn't offended or anything...

  • hilarious

  • lol!! this video is funy!!!!

  • That is directed towards ...havoctrend....

  • Now you see this offensive..!!! and when the Dutch people made a movie about Islam and Some offensive pictures about The greatest man in the world Prophet Mohammed s you people don't find it offensive what a strange mind you have may you all rest in hell with all of your pope's.

  • After this Pope is dead, The Dragon is next to come and he will give power to the beast "The Holy Roman Empire." 666

Catholicism is a hybrid religion created by Constantine which fused pagan rituals and dates into Christianity. Catholicism is a satanic religion. Get yourself a King James Bible and live by every word of it. Be not deceived and let no man take your crown.

  • please do everyone a favor and keep your rather offensive opinion to yourself. this is not the place to bash any religion.

  • havoctrend, you are absolutely NUTS. If you live by every word of the Bible you will be in jail in less than 24 hrs. OK to sell your daughtes as long as it is not in the Sabbath? Stone your neighbor to death if you see him working on the Sabbath? Stone your children to death if they are unruly? Kill other populations but keep their virgin women to yourself? Your comments clearly show that you have not read the Bible. If you did, you would not make such ridiculous statements.

  • You are a purveyor of hate and ignorance. The Catholic religion begins with Christ himself dating to His Apostle Peter...

Protestantism is based on the whim of a King. Those who rely on the King James "bible" are the poor souls who have been deceived by a man with a crown!

  • i am a roman catholic and i went to the mass today i dont find this commercial offensive but some of these comments are really rude

  • I think it's funny, what is so disrespectful in the video? People are always frustrated when it comes to religion. You can be a believer, all religions included without being always on the defensive when we talk about religion.

  • I think it's funny, what is so disrespectful in the video? People are always frustrated when it comes to religion. You can be a believer, all religions included without being always on the defensive when we talk about religion.

  • Yeah really. this is funny.

if they were going to disrespect the pope they would have found a better way to do it than on Youtube... or in a video about metro.

    :)

  • Hey!Give the Metro a break! Doesn't HH have a sense of humour!! My God that was funny! It is NOT meant to be disrespectful - lighten up chaps! It was personally approved by Rev. Wright!

  • No respect! really no respect for the catholics!

  • I can still vividly recall childhood memories of fearing eternal torture in Hell for being a human being. Losing count of the number of times I said the lord's prayer feeling I didn't get it right. Not realizing that there were cultures isolated from the world that had never heard of Christ, not realizing that the books of bible were written decades after Christ's death and could have been easily exaggerated. Christianity deserves no respect if it needs more than love to sustain itself, fear.

  • Right on Exode216. Fortunately, you saw the light. I grew up with similar fears of going to hell, or my relatives and loved one going to hell when I was a child Religion is responsible for some of the worst child abuse (I am talking mental, but yeah, molesters is a separate disgusting topic) as children grow up among images of tortured, bleeding statues. After reading the Bible and many other books and documents, I realized God and religion were invented by man to control people's mind as sheep

  • wtf

  • Why did you have to make such a rude comment my friend? Did you not here what the Pope is doing now about the priests? Please have respect for the Christian Church...

  • just so you know people like you and that priest would be considered a heratic.... and less than 1% of sexual charges made in america are done by priests... so pretty much 0.0001% are priests

  • That is not how you use statistics bud.Why don't you quote the percentage of sexually abusive priests, among the priest population? For instance, the polygamous sect in Texas, as an overall population of the USA, are an extremely small number of sexual abusers. But if you count the number of abuses WITHIN that sect, then you get a clear image that as a group they have a serious issue.Similarly, the Catholic Church has a serious issue, but you prefer to bury your head into your massaged statistics.

  • haha well then i might as well tell yout that the so called "little boys" that have been sexually assaulted supposedly were mostly all between the ages of 14-18.... so i don't think that they are actually little boys they're more like guys that can defend themselves

  • I really don't think you are defending your Church that well bud. But yeah, keep bringing those "facts" up and making your Clergy look even worse. LOL !!! By the way, I recommend that you watch an excellent movie called "Deliver Us From Evil".

  • haha i just might.... and i don't care if i'm defending it that well or not i just don't want to sit back and watch people trash talk about the church... people are right.. America has no morals

  • So cute!

  • Pope-mobile, shmope-mobile. Reduce your carbon footprint. Ride the Metro

  • It's a Commercial! i know the reason why some of you are mad, it's because you do not own a bobble head, if you did you would realize how awesome they really are, so dont be mad, just go out & buy one & join the bobble head side lol

  • I support mass transit.

    I support bobbleheads.

But, I can't support this ad, because it's not funny, and it makes mass transit look like a place where you get trapped next to a fat guy reading the paper who crowds your seat. Now /that's/ offensive.

It pretty much says nothing about the pope, religion, or Catholicism, though.

  • In Spain they are stupid enough to treat this sect leader like a president, I didn't know that in the u.s. they are the same. why honor someone as important as muktada el sadr or l. ron hubbard or jimmy swaggart? for me they are just the same, and tell the same crap.

  • If you only understood who the Pope really is or what his job is, etc. you wouldn't be saying that.

    Sebastian

  • /watch?v=HjyTSnazpPI

  • I believe any add that uses a bobblehead is a good add. This world would be a better place with more bobbleheads. I've never thought of a pope bobblehead but it's a good idea, perhaps a whole line of Pope and saint bobbleheads?...And we could get everybody involved as well with heros like Luther,Calvin,Knox,Fox,Wesley and Edwards, etc. Each with a booklet explaining their mission.

I'm not of the Roman Church but I wish him well on his journey and hope it is a good visit.

    Peace in Christ to all.

  • I am Catholic, and I think this ad is great! I think it's effective, and those Catholics who got offended need to get a sense of humor.

  • Apparently what people were offended by wasn't the pope bobblehead- it was that it wasn't dressed in the proper papal vestments, and some of the latin was wrong.

    How edgy can people be??

  • um...where is the offensive part?

  • The cadence of the guy talking to the bobblehead was a pardoy of what priests say or sing during the transubstantiation, the holiest and most important part of the Mass.

If a similair ad had been made parodying the adhan, the Muslim call to prayer, I'm sure there would be outrage and death threats across the Muslim world. Since this involves Catholics, though, we just get accused of not having a sense of humor when we defend our faith.

  • No, the ad is not in any way mocking the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. That chant tone is a common dialog tone, used at Mass and the offices, but NOT the tone used for the consecration.

And anyway, the words of the consecration are "Hoc est enim Corpus meum." and "Hic est enim Calix Sánguinis mei, novi et ætérni testaménti; mystérium fidei: qui pro vobis et pro multis effundétur in remissiónem peccatórum."

The commercial does not even REMOTELY parody the Consecration.

  • you make a really good point. While my blood isn't boiling at the ad, I do think it's more stupid and tasteless than funny. making fun of the consecration, even only slightly, is a no go in my book.

  • Latin used to be spoken throughout the entire mass. not just the most holy transubstantiation.

  • Haha, that's cute! I'm a Catholic and I don't mind...but I could've done it better. :P

  • So Catholics of the Archdiocese of Washington are offended because of a good faith effort made by those who are outside of the Church? Frankly, I think they need to be upset at the Catholic organizers of the Papal Mass, who have planned a great deal more that is contrary to the Catholic faith than a papal bobblehead!

Take a look at the music they've programmed. It's the very stuff that Pope Benedict abhors. I kinda think he's going to be more upset about that than a bobblehead.

  • i'm catholic, and i think its hilarious

im not a big fan of the papacy though

maybe its because im eastern rite

  • Um, one of the hallmarks of being Eastern rite is your church's communion with the Pope. By remaining Eastern rite you ARE basically saying that you approve of the office of the papacy as it is currently defined. If you REALLY can't stand it, go join the Orthodox jurisdiction that is closest to your Eastern Rite one, but remember that your Eastern rite ancestors suffered greatly for their commitment to the Orthodox faith, the fullness of which is found in communion with the pope.

  • i know which station that is... huntington on the yellow line

  • And MSN said: "..This Video has been deleted."

This Video isn't offending at all. xD

  • Good video!

  • i don't see anything wrong in this ad. it's cool.

  • I'm ortodox but i think that is ok marketing for metro.

  • Well your disbelief would have been okay had you not spoken vulgarly about those who do believe so FUCK YOU ShaftInAfrica920 and responding to me won't do you any good because I don't care and will not read it.

  • i deny the existence of god

    fuck him

    fuck jesus

    Praise THOR

  • Well your disbelief would have been okay had you not spoken vulgarly about those who do believe so FUCK YOU ShaftInAfrica920 and responding to me won't do you any good because I don't care and will not read it.

  • Does anyone else find it funny that Shaft is praising a god yet Shaft denies the existence of god? : )

  • Funny indeed.

  • I'm a Catholic and I'm in no way offended by this. I think it's a cute and clever idea... even if they did get the Pope's attire wrong :D

  • A lot of "wah wah wah" over nothing.

  • ahm, i am a catholic.

what's so offending about this commercial?!

people are making a big deal out of this.

  • Wow honestly this is not a big deal, chill out.

  • It should have been "gratias" not "gratiae" in the Latin because it has to be in the accusative case... and that marks me out as a 17-year-old Latin nerd.

    Tunicam meam adipiscar...

  • So what's the correct latin for 'Romanes eunt Domus'?

  • I am a Roman Catholic and was fortunate enough to get a ticket to the Papal Mass after failing to make the Papal Choir. I was not offended by the ad. I found it to be quite humerous and it gets an important message out. Take Metro. I haven't read all the comments but find some to be quite off the track. God gave us the gift of laughter and joy. Let's use them! I am sure Pope John Paul II would have loved it! Welcome to D.C. Pope Benedict. May you have a safe journey.

  • why did people make such a big deal out of a commercial.

  • Cute!

  • Yeah, and catholics think the muslims are crazy for being upset that muhomad was in a cartoon.

  • not funny but Almost there. i didnt think it was offensive.

  • Is it offensive because its poorly made?

  • This just in...the reason the archdiosese is upset about the ad is because the pope wears a WHITE cap, not red.

  • banning bith control, covering up child rape by its own clergy, now getting upset over this ad. One screwed up outfit, the catholic church.

  • haha!!! I agree.

  • "Gratii agropolis pro metro?" The correct translation should be "Gratia coeli pro metro. If they can't even get the Latin right, I'm not going to laugh at their bobble head.

  • wmata can't get bus schedules right, so I'm not all that surprised if they can't get latin right too.

  • Firstly, it is utterly stupid. Not funny, boring, and poor camera work.

Secondly, a significant portion of a population won't like you characterizing their popular leader in such a way. Be it the Pope, a prime minister, or Jesus.

  • "Gratii agropolis pro metro?" The correct translation should be "Gratia coeli pro metro. If they can't even get the Latin right, I'm not going to laugh at their bobble head.

  • Hmmmn, my call is it's not offensive.

  • I am Catholic and this is not offensive at all.

I think that the cultural relativists banned it.

  • Wow, are people this serious now?

Does society have to be so watered down now

    that humor isn't allowed anymore?

It's amazing how the church is upset

by a little toy, but tried to cover up

    sex with little kids.

It might help the church to be a bit

    self-deprecating.

  • Could you imagine if this was done with a Mohamed or Cleric type bobble head? What would peaceful loving islam do? 99% Christians think this is funny, the other 1% will not blow up any buildings.

  • Theists: we won't characterize the pope as a bobblehead if you let us teach real science in school.

    Deal?

  • You can't characterise the pope as a bobblehead anyway because we just beat you to it!

  • your already taught "real science" in your cesspool public schools where 1 out of 5 girls is pregnant.

  • Taught 'em all about science. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to tell them that if they have sex without using a condom, there are great consequences. We tell them not to have sex, instead. We also tell them to eat right, drive the speed limit, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and do their homework.

  • right because a condom is 100 percent effective*rollseyes*. The real reason why they got pregnant or AIDS is because they couldn't keep their legs closed. Quit using the Church as a scapegoat and take responibility for your own actions. only 5% of africa is catholic anyway so your blames on AIDS in africa because of the Church is ludacris.

  • We're talking about America, not Africa. That's another country with another set of problems. I would blame AIDS there on a lack of information, condoms, and the prevalence of prostitution. But in America, I'd toss the statistics right back your way. How many high school pregnancies are caused by a broken condom? And how many are caused by not using one at all?

  • Depends. Many women who have abortions were taking birth control and using condoms. There always breaking. it encourages promiscuous sex, etc. And like I said, most teeange pregnancies are in PUBLIC high schools, where they already teaches about condoms and BC. You can't blame your out of wedlock kids on other entitys when its your own fault.

  • OK, wrote this once and it didn't take. Let's try again. "Many" and "always" are pretty subjective words, please back them up with a reference so I know you're not just spouting an opinion. Studies show the failure rate of condoms between 2-15%, depending on whether they're properly used. What's the pregnancy rate for unprotected sex? How about STD rate? And when did this become about sex, anyway?

  • By the way, I want to address the "it encourages promiscuous sex" statement you've made. The American Journal of Public Health published a study from GWU on Massachusetts high schools. Comparing schools with & without condoms available, "they found 49 percent of students at non-condom schools reported having ever had sex, compared with 42 percent of those at schools with condoms available." The best way to keep your kid from getting pregnant is to educate them and be a good parent.

  • What are you talking about???? please explain.

  • Um, not sure about you guys, but I was not-so-subtley referencing evolution, the Kansas Board of Education, and the lack of fossilized rabbits in the Precambrian.

Not surprisingly, someone (Renton405) turned this into an argument on the immorality of teenage sexual promiscuity.

Which is mostly irrelevant, except to show by way of demonstration how easily the religious will cite morality as a means to justify belief in imaginary things.

  • My favorite line

    "Avoid the unholy traffic!"

I think the problem is that this isn't the right color for the pope he supposed to wear white after Easter.

  • People were offended by this? I am utterly confused. Someone please explain!

  • This is stupid. Did I just get Rick Roll'd?

  • yes, si, ja, we

  • Weird!!!

  • Cardinal Ratzinger thinks 11,000 children, who were raped by American priests, are a "media exaggeration".

  • Do you think it's an exaggeration?

  • I think it's comical that people think this is bigotry. This isn't bigotry. But it sure does illustrate religious intolerance: anything that a religious person can deem "disrespectful" of their religion must immediately be condemned with the most forceful hue and cry possible.

    Why is that, I wonder?

  • um, that's washington d.c.

  • not worth reply. U probably won't read this, like you didn't read the subject of the video.

  • my bad DC pays 4 what they did

  • Yes, DC's problems are a punishment. haha

  • i think you should look up the definition to "bigotry"

  • I know what it means. Why doesn't it fit.

  • Sorry, MaHaRushie, but being the subject of a comical statement does not equate to bigotry. This ad does not imply hatred or prejudices. The reason this ad wouldn't fly as you suggest is more for fear of retaliation than for respect. That and Mohamed would never ride public transportation.

  • It does when the subject of the comical statement is what Catholics beleive to be the Vicar of Christ. Why can't certain things remain sacred?

  • Because "sacred" is subjective. Should the entire planet stop eating beef because one religion holds cows to be sacred? Am I disrespectful of those people for eating beef?

  • No, but don't try to say it should not be offensive to Catholics because YOU don't find it offensive. We have every right to voice our opposition as well.

By the way what ever happened to being curteous and respectful to people who are different. I know its not against the law to be offensive to others. But what good does it do.

  • I'm pretty sure my argument here has been courteous. I didn't suggest that you are not allowed to be offended. I do suggest that your feelings are not cause for this to be pulled.

  • If a large amount of people are offended by the ad then it is a good reason to pull the ad. It is not exactly a good marketing piece if it turns people off. They may boycott, tell freinds etc.

  • Well there you have it. DC residents who feel offended by this commercial are hereby invited to vote with their wallets and stop riding DC Metro. And if Metro decides they want to pull and ad, then that would be up to them. But if you think you can go through life without ever being offended, well I wish you luck. There are far too many people with far too many opinions. We have lots of rights in this country, but "the right to never be offended" isn't one of them.

  • Agreed astx813. But, is there anything wrong with trying to encourage the world to be a little more respectful towards different religions.

As Catholics we beleive that Jews are our "elder brother of the faith." Catholics share common beliefs in the God of Abraham. Can't we all just get along?

  • MaHaRushie: Religious people CANNOT get along, because the core of their belief system works under the premise of "I am right, and you are wrong" (am going to heaven and you to hell, my god is the true yours is false, I am more righteous, you are a sinner, etc) . The human psychology resists to be told that, so there will always be friction, and yes, war between religions. Religion is a perfect place to justify people's inner prejudice and need to feel better than others by putting others down.

  • Pskini, I cannot speak for other faiths but that is not part of Catholic beliefs.

We are all imperfect humans and I have seen the 'holier than though' attitude in my Church. It happens no matter what you are talking about sports teams, social class, race, intellect etc...

As Catholics we accept other faiths as just a different perspective to seeing God.

We are all on the path to God. I just feel my path is the best. That is not to say others will not get there as well.

  • Just religious people live by "I am right, and you are wrong"? Reading your post, sounds like you live by the same principal as well. (Hitler wasn't religious, neither are commies...mmmm?)

  • yes! exactly! If the Catholics were offended, then, they may not ride the metro to the papal mass,,, which misses the point of the ad!

  • cute!

  • This commercial has converted me to Catholicism! I'm headed to confession. Thank you Metro!!!

  • LMAO! Amen!

As a Roman Catholic attending the mass (luckily!), I loved this ad! It WAS completely amateur in its production, but I think that's part of its youtube charm. As a television ad, this is DC, who's had an up escalator out where I am for six months and keeps pushing back the completion date for its repair. I do not expect much more than this quality for an ad.

  • Metro fools !!!

  • I'm pretty offended... the bobble-head pope was hilarious but the commercial itself was terrible! Needs a better director (and/or writer) :p

  • Has anyone noticed that these bobble-heads are defective... they have Pope Benedict wearing a red Zuchetto not a the proper white Zuchetto

  • Once again...

It takes only ONE... 1 person to cry foul... and the government has to STOP the world and say this ONE person is right... And the rest of the population is wrong...

    How fucking dumb is that?!?!

I think a military coup is in order for the US... It needs one... very urgently.

  • your comment is very confusing.

  • Once again...

It takes only ONE... 1 person to cry foul... and the government has to STOP

  • Bobble head Pope lol, love it.

  • For being a pulled ad, that was pretty tame and boring.

  • It is pretty tame. I have no clue why wmata decided to remove it.....

  • Il video fa cagare!!! Non capisco perchè quel birbante di Joseph si sia incazzato tanto: il pupazzo somiglia molto di più a Karol Wojtyla...

  • Molto benne! Formaggio!

  • Well... At least nobody's going to have their head cut off by some radical Muslim cleric!

  • I thought this was a great ad! Working for the Church, I would have sent this to our parish's listserve to check out if we were in DC.

  • Speaking as a Catholic...loved it! I already have my "Mass Pass" for the day, maybe I can pick up a bobble head too. God gave us a sense of humor so that we would use it.

  • I never would have seen this ad if it didn't get pulicity on the local news saying that Metro is being pressed to pull it off of here. People need to lighten up & laugh a little!

  • The pace of the video is plodding. Audio quality is lacking. Blocking is poor and camera angles are ponderous.

This would be an adequate amateur viral for YouTube, but for a Regional Transit Authority to produce this as a public ad spot is embarrassing.

As for the use of the bobble-head Pope; It's not as if Christians have any fatwas against the graven image of it's religious leaders.

  • The commercial was well shot, poorly narrorated, but overal harmles and cute. I think a good Pope would like it and laugh at the fact that he his equated to the common man, as he would be in God's eyes and judgement.

  • Christians can have a sense of humor. Too bad some don't realize that.

  • dude this is a way of making fun of our religion and some of us actually take it seriously... so anything that downs Catholicism is putting all Catholics/Christians down

  • I think his head should have bobbed more and she should have worn a gay flag.

  • What on earth were they thinking ?

  • IMO a good, lighthearted idea that might have been better executed. My guess would be Benedict XV might probably be amused. I've no doubt the late John Paul II would have loved it an possibly used the bobble head during Mass at the ballpark.

  • This is well done shtick. By asking to pull the add, the video will get more publicity than it would have otherwise. Maybe the Pope should wear red once in a while.
