  • I wonder if Paul knows that Mars is closer than the sun everyday.

  • @RussCallison

Probably not, he believes psychics are real and that people can control the weather with their minds. What a shame..

  • @supertrixxx Are you serious???? Link, PLEASE.

  • @walshy0001

I can't be bothered to look up links but he pretty much says stupid shit whenever he opens his mouth. check out youtube videos of shows, interviews etc. He's a total loon, go read his facebook log for the cba tour. I think he might be schizophrenic. Good music though, and seems like a nice chap. remember, he's a musician, not a scientist.

  • @RussCallison Well not always...

  • My god. That chord they hit at 1:38 just gives me so much chills every time i hear it.

  • wheel inception.

  • @ironbar100 lol

  • Just Beautiful...

  • ?*

  • very talented musicians. nice to see them finally get together again after all these years since focus.

  • Hmmm I thought Paul had a family....

  • @LUMBERTHON Who cares? Really!? Even if he is it doesn't change the fact he is a great musician.

  • now this is a song you can just close your eyes and loose yourself with, Cynic you have out done yourselves.

  • I assume this is how Cynics new album should be like. Kind of disappointed they said they would have no aggressive vocals on it.

  • I like how Cynic pretty much came up with a completely new music genre emerging from Death Metal, but quickly soaring into something peaceful and clean, completely disjoint from Death Metal, but still remaining creative, technical and artistic. They created a music genre that doesn't attach to any so-called formulas, composed with richly made melodies, beautiful lyrics and the characteristical prog feel.

  • moreso than any other music i like, i feel an innate connection with all of you who enjoy this amazing band as much as i do. traced in air and re-traced are so honest.

  • Wow... This was the sound I was looking for. How can you not like this?

  • Cynic are awesome. Such precise players (goddamn session musicians!!!) with brilliant ideas creating some of the most incredible fusions of jazz and metal. Saw them in Manchester (last year??) supporting Opeth(!??!?!!). They only played for 20 minutes but it was one of the most memorable gigs I have ever been to. Not that exciting to watch, but ther execution was perfect. Could have sworn it was an album that was being played!! Goes to show, Death is good for some >:-D

  • shame he's gay :-P

  • @LUMBERTHON

    1. It's not known for sure if he's actually gay or not

    2. Even if he is, so what? This isn't the 50's, homosexuality is a normal part of our culture, and if you don't realize that by now you're either 13 or belong in the bible belt.

  • And he is gay, Chuck wrote a song about him - The Philosipher

  • @LUMBERTHON

That's a rumor. The only person who knew for sure was Chuck.

  • @maynrdjkeenan Rumours are always true!! I dunno, either way he makes good music and is a fooking G with that Steinberger. Cynic ftw?

  • @LUMBERTHON you mean The Philosopher?

  • @LUMBERTHON whats the source of this

  • goose-fucking-bumps

  • 0 dislikes? could it be.... THE PERFECT SONG?

  • I prefer Traced in Air and Re-Traced over Focus. Hate me all you want, it's my opinion. It's much more beautiful, and thats coming from someone who mainly listens to Death Metal.

  • @mujuma I agree completely. Focus was fantastic metal, but Traced in Air (and this song too) are way more cohesive. "New" Cynic has created the most organic music I've ever heard in my life.

  • god his voice is relaxing to listen to without all the screaming and voice effects.

  • pure perfection!

  • A little too stripped down, I felt TIA was already pretty stripped down compared to Focus. This is still cool, but I cant help feel a little disappointed.

  • @mehtabb1 that's the point of re-traced though, it's really stripped down

  • I want to suck Paul's dick ;)

  • CYNIC... one of the best band in the world!

  • @spinkytammazzo not one of the best - - - - > the best!!!!

  • HOLLY SHIT!!!

that solo was creative as fuck!!!

how the hell did he come up with that? that beats alot of modern solo's from the metal/prog genre in the face with its originality.

  • any time that you find yourself questioning the vocals of something, in my opinion your usually missing out on good music for some silly sensibility about what things "should" sound like. Trust me I missed out on a lot of good bands at first b/c of that

  • I dig the vocals...Cynic is amazing!

  • there music theory is crazy awesome

  • I think you're all missing the point of what Cynic is trying to do. Stop bitching about the vocals and take a step back. Try and see what Paul is trying to do, what kind of feelings he's trying to convey with them, it could really turn you around. And these songs are reinterpretations integrating other genres that Cynic likes into their music, they're not "radio-friendly." I don't know if Cynic would ever purposefully make their music that way.

  • @thudunder Your abosolutely right.. I in the matter of fact didn't like Cynic at all when I first heared Focus because of Masvidals vocals but when I gave it a chance the whole concept opened up to me and now I love Cynic<3

  • @thudunder a true artist wouldnt care if his music is radio friendly or not...if it comes out of the heart sounding commercial...so be it...to purposely create music that is "underground"...and purposely alienate certain people is as shallow and contrived as "sellout" bands

  • @arkee71

It's good to see people who actually understand that. In the end fuck genres, music is art. Let it be and leave it's creator to judge.

  • I really miss the vocals from Focus.

  • I really like the music, but not the vocals

  • @djidji213 the vocals really grow on you eventually. i used to hate cynic cause i thought the vocals were gay but i like the music so much that i just forced myself to like the vocals lol.

  • i am kinda... CYNICAL about Cynic

  • @vrem THE FUCK IS THAT EVEN A PUN

  • @vrem hehe nice, I think this album is more of an experiment than a new direction though.....I hope

  • @Stirrethcharybdis who cares. cynic is awesome.

  • @vrem I know your right...I just hate to see anyone hate on anything just because of vocals I missed out on so many great bands for so long over that exact same thing.

    Your right though....this RULES

  • @Stirrethcharybdis i think they're experimenting to see what people would think if they incorporated a sound more like this.

  • @EpsilonX I suppose that could be the case, Id love to see the effects laden voices drop out a little bit and for cynic to become a little more rooted to the ground, maybe throw some bass eq in the guitar line hehe......

but thats probably just me. I prefer sludge most the time

  • @Stirrethcharybdis i mostly listen to hardcore and sometimes symphonic metal (i know, they go together so well don't they lol) but i like this sound. It sounds like outer space almost, which I dig.

  • @EpsilonX

i feel that Re-traced served the purpose more of discharging all the pop oriented material from their system, especially since Aeon Spoke at the moment is lying dormant. this was a necessary step in order to get to the feature Cynic album.

  • @yeatsg I wouldn't call it pop...softer yes, but definitely not pop

  • @yeatsg i heard that they're going to stop playing Focus stuff, so I don't think this is the case. I hope this is the case actually, because I like the softer side of cynic more than the death metal side. way more creativity to be found when they're not trying to be heavy

  • saw them in LA last night. 1st concert of 2010 Cynic US headline tour. WAS AWESOME!

  • Traced in Air was one of my favourite albums of all time - this, with acoustic re-interpretations ("covers" by any other name) and a radio-friendly, distortion-voice-free, unreleased song, is not what I was expecting. It's not bad music, but when I want to listen to this kind of music I turn to other bands (Harmonium, Neutral Milk Hotel, Opeth, etc). Cynic had their own style of heavy in Traced in Air and it feels lost to me.

  • @pdblouin33 i like cynic's new approach

  • Paul Masvidal is a musical genius. GREAT EP!...can't wait fo Cynic's US headline tour starting July 2010!!!

  • Genius.

  • Cynic starts US headlining tour July 2010. Gonna be awesome. Can't wait!

  • great new song...this ep Re-traced is very good

  • dig the new song, the whole ep is great

  • Awesome stuff

  • you are the only person who has the EP up. :)
