It`s way more easy to do this if you simply put the string where the mentos is fixed on between the bottle and the cap so that it is impacted. if you open it the mentos falls into the coke and you have got the same result.

All that you need is the diet coke and the mento on a short thread (maybe 2 inches long). Put the mento in so it hangs under the cap, but is hidden. The thread should be along the screw part of the bottle. Screw on the cap with the mento in it, and when someone opens the bottle, the mento will drop in and diet coke will spew out (more accurately than your plastic thing)

K heres all you needa do son. 1. since i don't have string i use floss. poke a hole in the mentos tie it up wit the floss.

2. Take off the cap drop the mentos in a lil bit

3. pull the floss tight to the side so the mento isn't falling in and screw the cap back on to hold the floss

Actually, In order to get the mentos to come off the thread when the cap is opened, you do need everything he showed. If you don't have the extra piece of plastic, the mentos will just stay attached to the cap.
