This special was actually the first appearance of the familiar Kermit the Frog muppet we all know and love. The original Kermit that was used prior to this was a paler green and had a simpler, more lizard-like appearance, without the pointed collar around his neck.

He was in Jim Henson's The Frog Prince from 1971 with the collar around his neck, etc. Also, Kermit was the host of the Muppet Show from the late 1970s.

@ChicagoSouthDan Okay, I did an online search and this first aired in Canada in 1969 and in the United States in 1970, so maybe it was the first appearance of Kermit with the collar.
