do you recommend me getting the AMD Phenom 2 x4 3.6ghz BE? I need a quick response for I'm upgrading my computer and want to know, feel free to speak your mind. It sounds fast but someone tell me if it's all it is cracked up to be. Note: My motherboard is compatible with it.
Question, I have an HP m8200n Pavillion that has an AMD dual core 6000+ @ 3.0 ghz CPU and the motherboard has a AM2 socket. Now I heard that it might be possible to put the 940 @ 3.0 ghz (which is AM2+ processor) and it would work. Is this possible and would I see any improvements?
What would be the most trouble free frequency, for the phenom x2 940. on stock cooler and without voltage increase. 3.4ghz would be good enough for me???
and is this processor fast enough if i add another hd 4850 in crossfire to my system.
I have read the thread and I would like to know which Heatsink you are using and room temp if you don't mind. I have this CPU and it is beast on stock but I want to overclock a bit
What kind of PSU do you use. I'm getting the same processor, but I will be using a stock heatsink. I only have a 530Watt PSU. Is it possible for me to overclock the CPU without burning it out?
im trying to buy this processor looks amazing i need to processor and hopefully A quad core cuz my dual core is getting kinda dusty for some of the new games.
My Cinebench score for 64-bit @ 3.5ghz is 13623(a lower clock is required for the 64-bit app or it becomes unstable, my 32-bit geek bench score is 6466 @ 3.6ghz. Yours?
The Cpu requires an AM+2 supported motherboard to run correctly, the motherboard I am using supports, am2 am+2 and am3, at this stage this mobo support all AMD chips that require a socket 940
thanks.. just bought one of these (has not arrived yet...) , had to buy a cheap gigabyte m720 board to run it on. seems a little close to its temp limit. !!
are you running high power mode? under control panel/ power options my current dual core on balanced mode is at 49c load.
I can only overclock my 940 to 3.4 any thing over that one of the cpu's freezes up, I have a biostar mother board and I use AMD over drive to over clock
Hey, I have a question for you. Once I overclock past 3.4ghz., it seems like it's actually running slower!! So, I did a .25 voltage bump and it crashs my computer instantly to where I have to reset the bios to get it back to factory settings. Is the voltage bump not enogh,...do I need more power? It runs fine at 3.4 so it's not a big deal, but I would love to be at 3.6ghz if I could. I have a cooler master V8 cpu cooler, so keeping the temps down is not an issue.
No ,what that is ,is your northbridge needing to be turned up from 1800 to 2200 ... try 1.3500 vid for that speed... oh and set your cpu to 1.36-1.39 volts :)
Ok, you are right man, I believe my Northbridge is at 1800. Whwn I up the voltage, does it do it in .25 increments? And I also didn't understand what you said about "1.3500 vid"?? Sorry to play 20 questions with ya man:)
haha it's ok , In my bios I have something called CPU-NB Vid ,and CPU-NB Voltage , VID governs the voltage and also increases the actual nb voltage with it...
Heres some settings -
CPU-NB Vid 1.3500 v
CPU-NB Voltage 1.45 v
NB Voltage 1.35 v [ yes i know very confusing ,havn't quite figured why its there, but these settings are pretty stable for me ,all motherboards are different so see which one gains stability].
btw .. .25 seems pretty big in a way ,depending on whether you mean 0.250 or .025
I don't believe so materazzi, unless yuou overclocked it,then it may be getting too hot and unstable and it may adjust it's frequencies and speeds to counter that
yes it is, i've got a MD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHZ Black Edition to and the frequency keeps changing from 2900MHz to 3000MHz. And I haven't done anything regarding overclocking, so its all standard.
aussie, you may want to try to overclock the CPU from the BIOs,try increasing the frequency and multiplier in there, and maybe once you log on you can go even higher,I wouldn't know,as I have never overclocked before, but I'm reading about it and getting ready to :)
Why would you HATE them? it's not like no one has a choice which they buy. I've always had it good with them, havn't bought Intel since my Pentium 4 D which was ass!
i just got one, popped it in an M2N-E SLI AM2 socket and it kicks like a mule running at 3.5 right now 8D

so what temps are you seeing under load when clocked at 3.6 gig. i hear this cpu has a threshold limit of around 62c

push all yours voltages in the bios
max 1.58 volts on the cpu by aircooling
and 1.62 volts with watercoooling
keep the frequence
increase your clock ratio
max temperatur supported by phenom is 60 degres

a lot of voltage for 3.6ghz there dude

my same cpu is need 1.4V in 3,4Ghz (17x200) if i use 1.35V its going to unstable under the everest stress test...

whats your temps?

Yeah, I got my 940 @ 3.4 without a voltage change.
