Those people owe nothing to you or your culture. If it can be demonstrated that the children are being harmed in some way by Cochlear implants, that's one thing, but to imply that they are being robbed of some sort of "deaf heritage" (if indeed that is what you are implying) is silly. To imply that you are being robbed because someone you don't know has decided to ameliorate their own children's disability is so absurd I don't even know where to begin.
I'm a CODA and if my baby was born deaf, I would NOT implant him/her.
I agree that it is important to be proud of your Deafness and Deaf culture and don't allow CI's to destroy such a beautiful language and culture.
It IS the same as when hearing people try to change a deaf baby into a hearing baby with a CI. (And you're right, they implant them when they are still INFANTS! D: ) Leave them alone! They will be FINE as they are, and I know many successful Deaf adults.
@RamenOps I already have. I have a beautiful 7 year old hearing son, but IF he'd been born deaf, I'd have raised him Deaf and loved him, and he would not be isolated or alone because our whole family signs. I would also move to Flint Michigan and send him to the Deaf institute there.
