i had that amp. it really would peak at 1200 watts. rms is constant but im sure you know that. sony isnt a high quality brand for car audio, more like entry level. they had the cheapest bang for the buck for a long time. sounded decent too. my first system was all sony, head unit, 2 tens, and amp for under 400.

you can have 2 10" bump better then 4 12".. it all depends on how and where its enclosed. JLs are one of the best subs for sound, quality, and bump, but remember that where it is enclosed can make all the difference. there are other good subs like alpine and pioneer, and for the budget, Rockford Fosgate. I agree with you mate. This sort of audio should only be installed for show cars. Just dont forget that the DB you measure subs in is commonly SPL so your factory stereo is unlikely to pop your ear drums however it will do something far worse like permanent threshold shift (PTS), an ear drum heals.
