pretty easy to appreciate. you wanna rank guitarists? go ahead for whatever all that's worth. Maybe Rory wasn't the best player, but you think about doing this, typically in a 3 pc band. Singing, playing, filling the in-between spaces, and all of that with an energy level that was second to none. There's a few other performers who i like equally, but to go see live? I was lucky enough to see him 3 times. The first was as the opening act for ZZ top. He blew them away. Not even close.
just brilliant this is the man who took the guitar to the people in a totally unforgettable style I count myself very fortunate to have experienced this giant live as an 18 year old in 1975 unforgettable and jaw droppingly good, the whole band was sensational Rory didnt surround himself with egomaniacs or poor technicians only with people who loved the music like he did.
I wish Rory would have taken Duane Allman's place for a few years in the Allman Bros Band. Can you imagine the guitar duels between Rory and Dickie Betts?
Thanks for the post...this is one rare song performed live! What a legend this man was. He played in Belfast and other parts of Northern Ireland during the height of The Troubles in the 1970's -80's, when everyone else was afraid to for fear of being blown up. That in itself deserves to be commended...bringing blues to the North!
without the trademark strat, he takes this telecaster to the RORY level, Unfuckinbelievable! what this man could do for a self taught player!! Anybody under the age of 40, have fun learning about this man!
yeah now rory is getting more important than ever since there is no good guitar-music aroun anymore.. people like me who are 30 will turn on more younger kids to rory.. today i got aguiar magazine with 15 pages of rory and him on the front page.. he is getting moe and more popular again.alsothanks to youtube i hope....
@GuyAwoke Im 18 and been a fan since i was 2 :D Theres videos of me jumpin round to this belfast gig when I was a toddler,I was even named after him haha!
I've been a fan since I was 55 (am 58 now). Don't know how I missed him growing up. Listened to tons of Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Clapton, etc. I have to say he is incredible, and favorite guitarist. Seemed like such a humble likeable guy to boot.
This show needs to be put on DVD!! Do you agree with Flash? ;-)

While the irish loved to kill each other, he let his guitar sing openly :)

Unusual to Rory Gallagher playing a Fender Mustang (or Jaguar?).
Any guitar sounded great in his hand. He was a master gone too soon
