i just purchased hdr hc3e camcoder used one its quality is really stunning. However i noticed that on zooming(DIGITAL ZOOM IS set OFF) any object indoor or outdoor kept at 2ft from lens is not able to focus (ie its focus perfectly till zoom is near 95-96% when zoom to 100% object at 2-3 ft remains outfocus same with manual zoom, is this normal??? also if zoom is fully wide & object near or less than 1ft video is perfect. so just need your guys help or review...Thanks in advance

I have had this camera for a few years. I received it as a gift. I now want to upload my videos to the Computer and copy them to dvd. I am using a firewire. I am trying to use it with Adobe Premier CS4. For some reason, I can't get the computer to recognize the camera/video.... When I click on Capture - it always says offline... how do I change that?

Jiba- You will have to record onto VIDEO TAPE. The HDR HC3 will NOT record onto a card. Get some Sony video tapes and get to it! :-)

Hi, wanted to ask if you know how I can get my videos from my camera to my computer. I have the HDR-HC3 camcorder HDV 1080i I have a video I put up if you care to take a look at it for me. I bought a firewire 3 port pci card and the firewire cable but when I hook it up all it does is ask me for a driver from the sony HDR-HC3 camera, I called sony and they say there is no drivers for the camera, so why is it asking for a driver. Please help me if you can. Thanks.

I have the same problem,

After spending days searching on the web, I've come to the conclusion it's not an easy thing to capture and edit under Windows, Works easy in Mac with Finalcut pro.

I ended up finding a little program called HDVsplit it makes mpt files...that are still worthless to any of the windows video editing programs, but I did manage to rename the extension of the mpt file to mpg and youtube was able to read and upload the file.

Been doing video editing on computers for years, but this has got to be the most frustrating thing I've ever come across to get a workable HD video editing solution under Windows XP pro in full 1440X1080i

I thought this review was really good. I bought the camera about 2 years back, and have been kinda reluctant about using the extra features... yes they're mentioned in the manual, but I like to see what they do and what they're good for. so something like that would be nice to see on youtube at some stage. because from their descriptions, I don't really "get" what they're for.

Have you been living under a rock? There's at least 2 websites offering HD uploads : dailymotion, vimeo. People are uploading amazing HD quality videos there. It's a shame that youtube cant offer HD video uploading.

im buying a camera too. Not this one though its a better one. I found it for $500. I checked DigitalRev and it was $1,200. Sony's Average price for it is $1,000. I recomend PhotoDynasty more then DigitalRev. Btw the camera i was buying is the HDR-UX-20

slow motion downgrades the resolution whilst shooting, about 50% so is quite low res, but OK by DV standards. Also it does fuzz the image whilst in slow. Night vision modes do not allow you to operate a lot of manual features. Screwing on lenses or filters DISABLES the flash! Arghhhh! Otherwise if you ca work around these thing sthis camera still rocks. One really nasty thing Sony did on purpose was NO MIC INPUT! WHY?

Hi great review, we were thinking of getting this camera soon, we are making a film, i want to know how easy it is to edit the footage after i've shot it? our film is gonna need major editing, such as adding muzzle flashes to guns, stuff like that. oh and the editing software we will be using is sony vegas 6.0.

Its entirly up to you, I got my camcorder because I like Sony and it came out b4 the HV20 but I also heard that the HV20 has some positive reviews.

I returned my HDR-SR5 Christmas present back to the store.

After many positive reviews etc. I decided to opt for the HDR-HC7.

I just bought a HDR-SR5.

You'll notice the red access light flashes in the first 8 - 10 seconds app. to alert you that data is being saved to the HDD.

When in playback mode, I've found the camera's speaker is so good, it actually picks up the circuit current and reocrds it. Listen carefully between the 12 and 13th frame in your playback on this video.

it sounds like a 3-dot echo, meaning - dot, dot, dot.

I can actually hear the same thing with yours!

No - I'm not saying you have morse code. I overlooked that your model is a mini dv model. I have the Hard Drive. This problem may or may not exis on you camera.

Oh I see what you mean, its the clicking sounds from the hard drive.

Be sure to look after your camcorder, the hard drive models can be kinda fragile.
