  • C'est bien!!!

  • studied 3 years of French in secondary school here in Ireland but gave it up. Wanted to get back into it and your videos are very helpful. Merci.

  • I just signed up today..

  • @PocketSizeEmmy

    I think YOU are ;-)

  • mercie remy i found this very helpful though i do think it would be pretty cool to teach us cursing in the language in case one of us do get into an arguement the the other person wins

  • Is it wrong to say "C'est pas la vie"?

  • @alternative0259

    Yes and no.

  • Wow! Merci Remy, Je seus Perla (; thank you so much for all the videos, I'm trying to learn french!

  • This is so easy you dont even need to simplify it, it actually makes it harder for me to understand

  • you always wear that csi shirt every video do you ever wash it and did you work for the csi ifn you say no then that means you are a csi member and if you say yes its the same thing really

  • @veselin320

People used to stop me and ask me if I was part of the CSI unit.

    That shirt is no more....

  • I wish there were more boobs in this how to, then it would be even more entertaining

  • how do you say I am costa rican

  • lol

  • this is over 4 years old but it still helps!

  • @snappleflash Because they come from the verb 'aller' meaning 'to go'. They are called conjugations of the verb. In English we also conjugate verbs but the conjugations are easier to learn. In English the verb 'to go' is conjugated as follows: I go Thou goest (not used anymore but important to know about. 'Thou' is the second person singular) You go He/she/it goes We go You (plural) go They go In French: Je vais Tu vas Il/elle va Nous allons Vous allez Ils/elles vont
  • My question is that if your talking about a women but are a man yourself would you say "Elle est Canadienne" or "Elle est Canadien". basically what i'm asking are all words attached to femininity used as such or if your a man anything you say should be masculine. a little confused here.

  • Thank you or takk from Norway !!

  • Bonjour, je ne pas pa le Francais

  • grazie,thanks ,merci from Italy...

  • thank u.. your lessons r very helpfull

i'm arabic & i wish to learn frensh, only i know nothing of it except what i learnd from you T.T

  • Vous enseignez très bien!

  • Excellent! Thank you!

  • Bonjour, Je m'appelle Frances. Je suis Chinoise est Je suis un etudiante a Hong Kong:) J'apprends le français et merci pour la vidéo

  • HI Remy,

Fantastic tutorials! I am latecomer & beginner, looking to get good as quick as i can. I have question; "i go" is "Je vais", but "you go" is "tu vas".

Why is vais changed to vas?

Are your youtube videos the best place to ask for your help?

    Regards, snappleflash.

• @snappleflash "Go" or "Aller" is an irregular verb and doesn't follow the same pattern.

  • thanks Remy, i just learned nederlands language, now i want to learn french language too. You are very cool and natural teacher. More power

  • I have noticed that in "tu es" there are adjacent vowels but you don't eliminate one of them. You seem to violate a general rule there. Perhaps the French don't consider these particular adjacent sounds to clash because you morph from one to the other so you can tell that they are different without a gutteral stop (as opposed to two 'e's next to eachother)?

  • @Tapajara

You will actually hear t'es in conversation . Many rules have exceptions of course.

  • good day sir. I have a question. You said that you cant have the vowels clashing, how about with "elle est"? The first ends with e and the second starts with e.

  • Superb...i'm vinay.....ur videos are very helpful to me...i have an insatiable thirst for learning languages....i want to learn all the languages of the world (oops.......probably i'm too greedy), so i thought of starting with french (afterall it was french who were strongest of the colonial empires after english that invaded india & after this i may go for portuguese and dutch.....!!!! ). I don't know why i've not seen ur videos till now....

  • Rèmy thanks from Buenos Aires!!! You´re very good!!!

  • So.. The word "Is" is ne? Probably a stupid question. lol

  • @CodyThatGhost

Never a stupid question. That's how we learn Cody.

is is not the same as ne

    Think of "ne" as "not"

  • @jremy7 hello Remy comment vas tu your lessons have helped me alot with your french make sure that you make lesson 14 my favourite part out of all your lessons are when the grammar police came on lesson 3. aurevoir Remy Merci reply.

  • Je suis content que vos Videos ont bien, tu peux faire plusiers pour

nous regarder. Maintenant je apprendre plusiers langues. Je vais

apprendre Francais plusiers. Vous voir ma professeur. Au revoir.^^

  • je t'adore

  • dear great teacher! thanks a lot for the wonderful videos! I have really learned a lot from you. only one small comment if you allow me, please don't be worried that French may be difficult for some people, I feel that when you teach a new rule or irregular verb that you are afraid it would be difficult to be memorized, but don't worry, human mind can save much:) and I, as an Arabic teacher for non-native speakers, believe that much rules to be practiced are easier than few rules to be forgot.

  • "il N'est pas canadien" et non "il est pas canadien"!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry, but nobody in France would say "Tu es pas.." (you're not...)

Most often, people would say "T'es pas...".

Even the correct form "Tu n'es pas..." is far more frequent than "Tu es pas" (which is obvious, since nobody says it)

  • Bonjour,

Ton accent est très bon, à t'entendre je t'aurais pris pour un Français!

    Continues comme ça!

    Au plaisir,

  • hello remy,

thank you for your french lessons :)

im german and in school ive chosen latin :D

but i like the language and so i want to learn french.

your lessons are really helping me. thank u :)

  • @ann14isalwayssinging

I studied both Latin and Ancient Greek in School :-)

  • @jremy7 wow this is cool ! :D

  • I like the way u teaches French not too formal. As I hv a lot young french friends and they dont speak the correct grammar.

Well done .... i wanna sound like them.

  • salut! thank you for your videos, im really learning.. these videos helped me alot because someday i will be migrating to quebec, canada... and majority are french-speaking-people.... so, thank you so much for this basic learning

  • please keep on going!!

  • I have a question~~~ Can "elle est canadienne" be " ell'est canadienne'?" Because that I have learned so far, there are two E's clashing each other. Somebody answer me please!!

  • @khzzang9 no, ive never seen that

  • @khzzang9 for being French, I can tell you that it is not possible, no!

Because the last "e" of "elle" is silent so it is not a problem to say "elle est". Indeed, you read it like "ell'est" but you write it like "elle est". But with "tu ne es", the "e" of "ne" isn't silent, thus it sounds bad to say "ne es" => you say it and write it this way: "n'es". I hope this is helpful.

  • @IndieFanGirl This is so right

  • Hey Remy, my names kev and I find your teaching really helpfull, like alot. Ive just moved to the U.K. from South Africa, and in my new school I've had to start learning French, a lanuage I've never done before. • @starkiller23610

Thanks Kev. I appreciate the compliments :-)

  • @starkiller23610 how many languages do you speak?

  • @karlnito38

    2 fluently

I've studied Spanish, German, Latin and ancient Greek

  • Merci!

  • Don't give to much credence to what your critics say -- I think you are doing very well.

You lessons are clear and comprehensive -- especially for those of us who are new to the French language.

  • Bonjour Remy!

Comment ca va? Ca va bien, merci! J'suis Sud-Africain (That's about as far as I've gotten till now) I would like to know what you would suggest I do to practice, as I have no one with whom I can speak French and I do not have constant exposure to the language? Thanks for the video's! Sincerely, Juan

I have learned about the importance of speaking French in Canada in order to secure a good job. I'm glad I can be of help.

  • just bumped into your site and started viewing and learning your lessons in French. you are an amazing teacher!!! fantastic!! this is what i was looking for. the best French lessons i found here in u tube!!!

  • @byoggy

    Merci beaucoup :-)

  • how do you pronunce the r?

  • Just wanted to say that your lesson are fantastic! I bought a popular CD set to learn french but it was difficult. Your lessons are much easier. Thank you so much for posting this. Honestly honestly, really good job! Keep up the good work!

  • @Paulppp204

    Merci beaucoup. You're very kind.

  • Sure wish I would have paid more attention back in high school during french class. Now that I find myself going to France, Switzerland, and Belgium in May, I find your videos to be most helpful. Thanks Rémy.

  • these are very helpful xD. i love hearing french. to me hearing french is like listening to a beutiful song. so for a long time iv been wanting to learn french. your videos are very very helpful

  • Le français est si extravagante

  • Pffft! I NEVER get tired of saying; J'suis Americain!

  • Remy these lessons are really awesome. I think the best thing is they are helpful with constructing sentences. THANKS!

  • Rémy, I've got a doubt about the sounf of 'est'. Sometimes I hear an open sound (like é), but sometimes I hear a closed sound (like è). Am I saying some nonsense? :) If not, both sounds are correct?

Thanks for your videos! They are very good!

  • @lfsmc

It should be "è" sounding but I can see where at times people might say it like an "é" sound.

All that matters is that the correct pronunciation for est is "è" and if you can tell the difference between é and è then you're ahead of the game :-)

    "That's French for ya!"

  • thanx for the lesson, iam from el salvador, and i am trying to learn french, this lessons has being really helpful thank u so much,

  • hell yeah hold it down for canada rhemy! lol canadians tend to be more french prone then americans but we arent really fluent unless you live in quebec

  • Remy your lessons are indeed very useful. I have a question, this lesson, you said in the beginning, 'I am Back', now I want to learn how do you say 'I will be back'?

Thanx a lot for your efforts.

  • I am a srilankan, really good in english. But I found very difficult learning this french. With the help of your video, I found it very easy to learn as well as quick. You are doing a brilliant job, hats off. Keep up the good work.

  • Bonjour a nouveau! (No Accent Mark Unfortunately)

Despite my hatey comments I do like your videos, I spoke it over with my French Teacher and he told me that what you say is partially right, BUT, unfortunately, the way you speak is not used normally en France, the ne with je ne suis pas, is almost always used. Just a quick question btw, is etre an irregular verb, because it doesn't seem to follow the basic pattern. Please answer me, my lessons really aren't noting that to much.

  • jje me apple tashi e suis tibetan je apprende ton francai trei biien j

  • Remy, did you work in CIS?

  • @Scottcreek942

Can't say that I did but that shirt certainly got me a lot of attention :)

  • Dear Rémy,

ignore those who are giving you bad comments, your lessons ARE helpful and thank you very much! I was really really afraid of learning French, and thanks to you, Im a lot less afraid now!! Im HUngarian, so dont have problems with the nazal sounds or vowels, but Im struggling with "R" specially when its not at the end of a word. but just hearing you say it helps a lot! thanks, you are a star!! :)

  • @Flara555

    Merci beaucoup :-)

  • c'est incroyable, je viens de me rendre compte aujourd'hui que la langue francaise peut être très difficile pour la pronnonciation et les lettres qu'on utilise pour ecrire, les s muets, les t muets etc. en tout cas très bonne video!!

  • @HalSka8 Elle est belle.

  • remy u are amazing!!!thank u!!

  • bonjour remy, when i go to france and speak french to shop owners and in restaurants, do i use the familiar or the proper french?? thanks for videos, i have learned so much.

  • question: "elle est" is "ellE Est" maybe? So can we "ell'est"? Hmm, doesn't look right :-)

  • @donnecoeur I think that since the 'e' at the end of 'elle' isn't pronounced there is no clash... no need for the collapse.

  • Why does cinq *not* have a "ee" sound? Was this a latin or italian or maybe occitan sound that snuck in? I ask, because the alphabet is i=ee and most other uses of "i" sound like "ee" Bonne Journée

  • I like your classes very much, the most important part is that, you actually reply to the questions asked, unlike other. Tres Bien!!

    Alfred

  • bonjour , ca va , comment dit pakistanase pour homme et pour femme

  • Sooooo cool. I love this language :)

    Merci. You're great :)

  • GRACIAS

  • Bonjour Remy! Your lessons are great! Salut from Russia! Merci!

  • Thanks for the videos! I like the short cuts that you teach haha, who cares about the proper way as long as you can speak to people!

  • I've been watching your vids over the last few weeks and I love them. I will be going to France next week, I hope I remember all I've learned. Merci!

  • I have a internet friend who is from Canada and speaks Canadian French. Can I get away with practicing with him. I know the Canadian French is different, but is much difference going to make my studies harder then necessary?

  • Remy for president

  • Great job, Remy! Merci!

  • Bonjour, Remy.

You have said that it is incorrect to place two vowels together, but in the case of "elle est canadienne" you didn't mention a vowel conflict. I wonder if there's is an apostrophe version for this case, or if this is correct as is.

    Merci, Au revoir.

  • @4TailedScorpion the 'e' at the end of the word 'elle' is not pronounced. therefore it sounds like "el est canadienne." so there is now clash of vowels if only one of them is pronounced.

  • Bonjour. Remy! Your lessons are AWESOME!! I've been following your lessons, and I love it! Thank you so ,much for making these videos!!! Je Suis Koreanne ( i'm korean, did I spell korean right? ) and on my way to learn my third language which is French..

    -Jane

  • @janechopiano1 Korean in French is Corean in that case you would say "Je suis coreanne."

  • When I subscribe you I can´t find the Basic french videos

  • Bonjour remy, i love your lessons!!! They are really useful.

I would like to ask a question, you said when two vowels are placed together ,one will be deleted, then what about elle est? Won't the vowels crash this time?

    Thanks a lot! =]

  • Bonjour remy, i love your lessons!!! They are really useful.

I would like to ask a question, you said when two vowels are placed together ,one will be deleted, then what about elle est? Won't the vowels crash this time?

Est-ce que tu as un stylo/ as-tu un stylo - Do you have a pen?

  • Bonjour Remy

How would you read the name "Autri" in French? In English, its pronounced aw-tree.

    Merci!

  • Thank you I subscribed =)

  • Thank you for this videos ! Very helpful

  • is the 'to be' the same in most cases in French? (I am tall, i am Remy, i am hungry..)

Or does it use a different "to be" for each instance?

    Thanks!

  • @SymonGredge2 No, in some cases, we may get "to have" as auxiliary verb instead of "to be".

I am tall: Je suis grand

    I am hungry: J'ai faim.

(though saying "Je suis affamé" would work too, but it's more like a real big crave for food when said this way; it then sounds more like "I am starved" to us, French speaking people.)

I'd bet it's too soon (you don't have a full hour of French, yet!) for such nuances at this point. But just so you know it's not always this litteral a translation.

  • bonjour, remy. this is the first time i watched your video and I'm hooked. Question: how do you say Stephen? thats my name? coz in english ir's read as "steeeven".. Merci!

  • @stephenofthecross Steven is Stéphane I think. But they'd call you Steven :)

  • I just want to say thanks, I allwas wanted to learn some other lenguage and this is it for me, you make it very simple and entertaining, I'm just going to keep coming back to see how far can I go with it. Once again Muchas gracias Remy

  • Do you speake spanish too, or do you just have some knowledge about it?

  • how are you? what about "comment allez vous?"

  • can I make a request please? how do I pronounce the alphabet? for french?

  • Remy deberias de dar clases de ingles!!!!!

  • Remy deberias de dar clases de ingles!!!!!

  • I´m very happy of learning french with you! I´m brazilian, used to learn french last year, but this year i ´m not having time! So, after midnight i listen to your lessons and goes trough my french! Thank you! Sorry for some mistakes in english!

  • merci Remy, t'es .........uhhh....really helpful, and entertaining at the same time. keep the lesson's coming.

  • Lesson 4 was too much information ABOUT the language - more language itself. Its an activity so it needs to be done....

  • It's pretty cool just how much French has in common with Spanish, obviously because of their Latin roots. Sorry to state the obvious, I'm just amazed at how many very similar words I'm coming across.

  • good

  • good

  • Ton Francais son different que la francais Canadienne est ce que tu vie chez France ou tu avez vie chez France? Parce que ton francais son beaucoup different que nos francais. Nous ne utillisons pas la "J'suis" chose ca c'est vraiment francais de France.

  • I love your lessons Remy!!!! :) I'm italian, I can speack english and I love french. With your video-lessons i can improve my english learnig french! cool! THANK YOUUUU <3

  • I prefer the 'street' version. If I went to France, I don't think everyone would speak so proper. Plus, I'm doing it merely for my friends...like, its neat to speak something different. So formal is not** necessary(;

  • Bravo! Je suis Québecoise et j'ai plusieurs ami(e)s qui apprennent le français et tes cours sont très bien. Jusqu'à maintenant ton Français de rue fonctionne au Québec aussi. (On sait que les expressions "familière" au Québec et en France sont différentes).

  • to remy, ur french lessons r great! they really really help so thanks for the hard work =-)

  • Hi there!

I am from argentina (south america) and i wanted to know how to say agrentinian. and you were right, as spanish is my natural language, it is easier, because in the end all this languages are variations from Latin.

    Thank you

    Je suis ...

    ah! and can iProxy-Connection: keep-alive

    Cache-Control: max-age=0

    0say "mon nom est ..."? or "je m'appelle ... "?

and i have another doubt: my name is Dolores... how can i make it sound french? in eng

  • you are awesome!!! the BEST teacher!! merci beaucoup! tu es super!

  • Wouldn't he or she is not Canadian be "Il/elle n'est pas Canadien/ne"?

  • To Remy, when you talk about clash of vowels, is that only when the 2 vowels are the same,(ce est) or does it apply to different vowels as well because i remember in one of your videos there was, what I thought, was a clash of vowels, i believe it was u and e, but no connection was made. Could you please clarify this for me. Thank you in advance
