I still can't figure what form of Karate it is. Jean is an ok character but to me he seems out of place in VF. He looks like he came from Dead or Alive...come to think about it Ein had the same style.
i love playin tekken with jin kazamas kyokushinkai karate, but jean kujo's moves just put his 2 shame, he seems faster and actually a lot more stylish in movement...jean wud fuk jin up if not for the devil gene lol i hope that vf5 final showdown comes to console
Usually, most backfists I've done in fighting games is always "back + punch button."
That is you pull back on the joystick or pad, and simultaneously hit a punch button. USUALLY; that rule is not universal. Guile for example, in any Street Fighter game, does it automatically. For Jean Kujo it could be automatic too, part of a combo if you just keep hammering buttons.
I understand the whole timing issues; look man, regarding that back fist why worry? Virtua Fighter is about who has the faster timing and who can land the most hits in a succession first; little good will understanding one move do you, unless that move packs a whallop. As a general rule in 3D fighters, if a move does not knock them down, it is not a move worth learning or mastering. Furthermore a "setup" fast hit, should not waste so much motion.
which part? It was a two parter; timing and combos, actually I think three parter.
still this only proves it; me and technicians, just don't get along. Dude if you doubt my skill at fighting games why don't you just watch my vids? I'm not even bragging; Virtua Fighter is at default everything. Fight Night is set on hard though.
I never said I doubt your skill at fighting games.
I was just saying that you were wrong when you said:
"Virtua Fighter is about who has the faster timing and who can land the most hits in a succession first; little good will understanding one move do you, unless that move packs a whallop."
You haven't challenged the hardest setting have you? I was killed off by Akira in less than 3 seconds.
Challenge the hardest setting and then lets hear your opinion. Human opposition, compared to the CPU on the toughest setting is in fact, quite pathetic.
the computer's best realization, key words there. I noticed there are changes in difficulty for so-called "human" opponents when I challenge quest mode. Arcade mode is much tougher, and, dude, if human competition is as tough as you say it is lets see you post an undefeated run just on a hard setting.
In my experience, most human players suck, while the best ones, are the ones who can beat the computer on the toughest setting without losing.
the majority of human players, especially western ones, get on ego trips; the moment they can get an undefeated run on normal mode, they go to arcade competitions where they destroy most of the guys there, and ALL they ever play is human competition, however as far as improving their timing, etc, they never take it higher.
Again lets see you beat this thing on the hardest setting, then get back to me.
one more thing man; I have never seen, ANYONE, do Akira's reversals on a regular basis, that set of moves where he catches people's punches. Point me to a vid where someone does Akira's reversals in a match, and regularly, not just on "good luck." I got reversaled, juggled, and, executed because it was more of an execution than a fight, in the space of 3 seconds. I have never seen bestial gameplay like that, anywhere, not even from the "pros."
and, alright alright; like I said, I just do the training modes, hope that my "training" was in the right place and then I just hit buttons.
That is how I did martial arts for real; I drilled in basics, I drilled in Kata, and when I sparred, I just fought, hoping that my training was good enough.
I'll go ahead and just forget about it; me and technicians, generally don't get along.....
I never claimed to be good, just making a point that I have never seen any human player post game footage of themselves beating the arcade mode to this on the toughest setting but.... BUT, hey I'll take you up on your challenge when I'm good and ready.
The moment, I can beat this on the toughest setting without losing a single round damn straight I'll prove my point.
Jean Kujo (ジャン 紅條, Jan Kujō?) is a French karateka and a brainwashed assassin for J6 who debuted in Virtua Fighter 5 R.
Following Goh Hinogami's defeat at the hands of Jacky Bryant in the Fourth World Fighting Tournament, he now gets his chance to prove his worth. He soon decides to target Lion Rafale specifically, unaware that they used to be childhood friends.
Highly likely probably the end of 2009, if they decide to release it. Odds are though, it will be one of those titles SEGA will only release in Europe and Japan; if only had a clue as to how many video games Europeans and Japanese get to play, that over here never get released. This is likely to be one of them, reason being European and Japanese gamers play on a different level. Europe is boring, so there is oft nothing to do except play video games, few people can afford the "night life."
never actually been to Europe, although I'm told its pretty boring. Still though this game is only likely to come out in Europe for home consoles; fuck man I really wanna be there instead of here now, between my family being there and this game...... among other titles
lol KingmanIII, looks like someone rated you down just because you spoke the truth. Anyway the old vf5 bounce is still in vf5r, but only for certain moves (eg.jeff's 43P+K). Tk6's bounce is pretty neat.

Two direct shots to the liver, and then a knee to the head?
Only in video game land.....
In real life that would have killed him.

Anyone know the properties on that backfist at 0:38?
Seid0n 3 years ago
I know this is 7 months late but....
dude, the backfist, spinning or otherwise, is like the most common move in Karate. All styles use it. ALL of them, modern and "traditional."
stardingo747 2 years ago
That's not what I meant.
I was talking from a game mechanic standpoint.

I don't think you understand what I mean.
Perhaps you haven't played a lot of fighting games. I don't know.
I mean what are it's properties.
Execution frames.
Advantage/disadvantage on block.
Effects of a counter hit.
That sort of stuff.
Seid0n 2 years ago
Oh that?
Most backfists in video games are not power hits; the exeption is Guile's backfist.
also, dude, I don't look at those things I just play.

This is also a horribly wrong statement. Did you know that the computer AI in VF5 is infact a recorded player AI from the arcade version of the game?
Meaning that you were playing the computer's best realisation of a Human opponent.
Furthermore, actual human competition is much harder because they can learn, adapt and change their playstyle much more fluidly than the CPU.
Seid0n 2 years ago

No,it's not like Jin. He's French, so it is pronounced more like 'john', not like Jean as in Jeans

Well the Japanese (including the Japanese commentators) would pronounce it Jiin I think, which is kind of funny
boothesquirrel 3 years ago
No, as the spelling indicates, the Japanese write it as ジャン (Jan). If it was Jin it would've been written like this ジン
I've studied Japanese for a year so I know how to pronounce it.
Bananas1000 3 years ago
Right. Jean is common French name. I think that name is influenced by one of well-known French actor, Jean Reno (modeled guy on Ominusha 3).

karate has many stances and techniques that could have been utilized in the game
