Refurbished is when mostly when someone buys it and they return now since its ben open they can not say "new" on it since thas not allowed. also some break or what not and they fix it and put a new back plate on it.

refurbuished is if an ipod is defective or broken people return it and apple opens up the ipod and cleans it up fixes it and make sure it works fine but most of the time there are scratches on the ipodss mostly cause they have silver casing...
