When he says you can't notate a "swing" feel, he's incorrect. Composers since Vivaldi (at least Vivaldi that I know of) have been notating a triplet subdivision since the 17th century.
Face facts Roger Waters quit Pink Floyd because he was too high on his own ego and wanted to be able to own all the PF songs but have the ticket stubs all say ROGER WATERS LIVE.
@screamwriter1 He just doesnt want to share the glory, and yet preaches love and harmony all around the world, cheated on his wife, kicked out Rick, fought with Bob Ezrin, Storm Thorgerson (even Eric Clapton, Stanley Kubrick ) spat and swear on fans, dragged his band mates to court, earned millions through Rock and Roll and ungrateful fucker is still depressed.
@screamwriter1 I'm a big Kubrick fan what was that "fight" all about please enlighten me. I have heard the secret message in Amused to death but I don't get what its about. Thanks. Also I'm pissed off because as much as I hate his hypocrisy I will most likely end up paying a ton of money to see him lypsync the wall because im too much of a fan.
@screamwriter1 in perfect sense pt I he wanted to use sounds from the movie 2001. I don't think Roger understood the scene because he described the sounds he wanted as hal the computer breathing but it was the astronut that was shutting down hal that was breathing. On stage he uses the sounds he wanted for the album you can hear it on "in the flesh album" but legally he can't put it on the album without Kubrick's permission and perhaps royalties.
@93hipgnosis "continued" I imagine that Kubrick figured out that Roger(or who ever asked) did not understand the scence when asking for permission and that's why he denied permission... just my little thought.
@93hipgnosis Too funny I can just see Pink floyd watching 2001 on acid. Syd tripping right out ,Nick falling asleep Rick crying and Roger. " I don't get it but I like the effects we should have that in our show" (I am aware Syd was out of the band by this time)
Pink Floyd was - as Roger put it- 'creatively exhausted' and I think that sows in (what I call Pink Fraud's) 'Momentary Lapse Of Reason' and 'The Division Bell'. David was a major factor until the end though his name was left off the credits of 'The Final Cut' he was paid. Roger understands the discipline of being part of a band and for that i give him credit.
@eldorado61guy Wow you really are a Waters fan first and Floyd fan second. The Division Bell is a good album and High Hopes is a Pink Floyd song by sound, feeling and in the legal sense. Also one of the best of the last 20 years (before it). But because Roger Waters was not in it its not Pink Floyd? A little odd if you think of Them going on without Syd being OK to do. I would agree MLOR sounds more like a DG solo album.
honestly I think Roger spitting in that fans face was the greatest thing ever in life and I would have loved to witness it. I would do at least a good week of sensory deprivation if it meant I could witness the incident in Montreal. See that punk kid get spit on.
@coopa97434 That fan started it all by spitting at Roger. The funny part of it was Roger said to that fan "All is forgiven",and the guy believed him and when that fan got close enough, Roger spat back on that fan.
@screamwriter1 No the stage was on higher platform, "Roger signaled a fan towards him and that guy raced towards him and when he got tight below Roger spat on his face below"
Ruined??? You seem to be over-looking the fact that along with Syd Barrett, Roger Waters MADE that band. And then when Syd left, Roger continued to MAKE that band.
You read up! Wright was a coke head at the time who wasn't pulling his weight. David Gilmour even confirms that Wright wasn't pulling his weight. Power hungry? maybe...but its kind of understandable that the leader of the group didn't want them to go on producing albums without his involvement.
I'm sure that Jerry Seinfeld would have been annoyed if they continued the show without him after he wanted to leave. Not to mention if they did continue the show...it might have ruined the legacy of the show...a time for a grand goodbye is necessary to preserve something great. The Simpsons lost their sense of greatness because the show went on too long.
Roger was considering a lot of things when the band broke up...not just that he was power hungry!
Okay, so maybe firing Wright was justified... but my point still stands, he is power hungry and has an inflated ego. I just can't stand people who are full of themselves.
roger waters is an asshole.greedy cocky prick.not to mention he wanted full control over floyd..he ruined the greatest band ever on earth..and his solo stuff is garbage.
@5tonyvvvv You have no idea what you're talking about. He ruined the band? After Syd left, someone had to take control,or the Floyd would have been finished.I think if it was not for Roger Waters there would be no "Dark Side" as well as "Wish You Were Here, and certainly no WALL,as far as his solo stuff,it's up to the listener to make that call.NOT YOU.
@STRATCAT101 Yes he wrote many things but that doesnt give him permission to take tapes of wall hostage and kick Rick out of the band, this guy is a fucking dictator himself.
@gardenofarcane I used to think this too and While I think RW is a dictator, if you read all the facts about Rick during this time he really did do it to himself. I don't know that he should have been kicked out of the band altogether but he did contribute zip and was not acting professionally according the the various accounts I have read (not having been there) a few by David and Nick as well.(How Nick made it to the end is a surprise even to him :P )
Roger needn't apologize for remaining true to his beliefs and continuing to express them in new forms. Roger Waters, what an ambiguous character: Genius and asshole. Humanitarian and egomaniac. Visionary poet and hypocrite bastard. Rich socialist. Praised values like friendship, loyalty and brotherhood, later back-stabbed his own bandmates. Built a shrine to his own madness , brick by brick, but was it really satire? or did he actually became that fascist dictator.

To LYMBO20046, I agree Rogers teaches a lot of morals and etiquette, but he doesnt miss any opportunity to smear his school friend, (what a hypocrite) I like his work but this guys is an egotistical maniac and he expects others to let go what they hold dear when he himself was up in arms against his school buddies just for the name of a Band he which wasn't founded by him. All five guys made what Pink Floyd is today! so STFU Roger and stop putting your guilt on others.
it kills me laughing reading the comments of so many envious pricks who don't actually know him at all, who don't have a clue about what really happened to the pink floyd...
@UKImhotep He is a Hypocrite! he talks about Human right and stuff and yet he dragged his band mates to court for using the name Pink Floyd, talk about double standards this guys wants everyone to tear down the wall and yet he lives in his fortress.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i totally agree he was a complete dick. pink floyd are 4 members- not one, and (arguably) their only flawless album, (the darkside,) was the only album where every member inputed their creativity equally, before roger's ego spoiled everything
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if Roger wasnt such a asshole back in the 80's , pink floyd would be one of the richest bands of all time. Could you think if the whole band stayed together for the 90's and early 2000's?
Ok, thats it, I admit it, hes not as big of an ass as Im going on about, its really just the arrogance for the most part, but hes finally come down from that ego/power trip.
Roger Waters is clearly a Genius in music. Not only for his excellent Efforts in Pink Floyd from 1964-1984, but his Solo work and his genius achievement in Ca Ira
THE BEST NEWS!! started as a rumour about a month ago, when Mason declared on a TV flash interview that he spoke to Waters and he consented to a reunion, so it was again Gimours call: i said CRAP! But then, a week ago, i saw it announced in Hotmail News, now its all over the net: the clasic lineup is back for a series of charity concerts in 2008 and 2009, after Roger Waters DSotM tour!! my guess, Gilmour finaly consented. WAAAIT!! did i just see a PIG flying trough my window?
whoever bases the artists they like on the artist personality is going to be very disappointed. Sure Roger Waters is a asshole but personally I couldn't care less. He is an excellent artist and writer and thats all that really matters. As for the opera thing, people really need to open there minds. And if you can't get away from rock and roll (which I love) I feel terrible for you.
How is Roger an asshole. That question takes at least three boxes to answer. During the Animals tour he began to feel alienated to the masive audiences and thats how the inspiration for The Wall came up. Picture this: "Guys i have 20 songs of my own composition already written. Lest make a double album!!". The others agreed of course, to support his talent, but it was a set-up. Later he pushes the management to fire Richard Wright as a member of the band, but kept him as a musician for the tour.
Later he kicks Wirght off the band makes this album called "The final Cut" out of songs rejected for The Wall. Then he announces the termination of his contract with EMI and his departure from the band to pursue his solo career. The others are a bit stunned first, but decided to go on with Pink Floyd. Then Waters started a lawsuit against the band for the use of the name of the band and the use of all the music and lyrics. The MF tried to kill the band man!! of course he lost,he had no right to do so
Comes down to this:A) Waters didnt named the band and he doesnt merit the whole greatness of Pink Floyd.Hes a very important part, not the only one.B)The others also did great composition, arrangement and performance for the band, so they are as much entitled to continue the Pink Floyd legacy. To me, Roger Waters is a great artist, one of the best i ever seen, but what he did to Pink Floyd is called treason and it is militarily punished with a fucking shot in the back.
Now i do recognized his talent, always have: he is a genious, the best damn songwriter in rock history,i went to his coincert in town and paid tickets for friends. But that doesnt make him a bit less an asshole and i perfectly understand why the others didnt wanted to work with him all this time. You were the one who asked why calling him an asshole pal,i just answered. You can research the details to find out how humiliating was for wright to work with him and how much insulting what he did was.
Yeah, but that happened and it is over. You don't know him personally, he is probably a pretty cool guy. Sure, everyone can be an asshole sometimes. Check out Roger Waters Rants, those are funny.
You can be a pretty cool guy and a total asshole at the same time. You dont know him personally either, but i think a mans actions speak for his education and values. Of course he has done great thingS like his participation in the fair trade campaing, the memorial fund for disaster relif, Live8, Live Earh and all his opinions and pollitical criticism. But that doesnt change the fact that he betrayed his own bandmates and tried to kill the best band ever.
He wanted the rights to the band, theres a difference. Yeah, thanks for the info, but that is history now isn't it? Yeah, David and Roger also didn't get along to well, that had something to do with it too. Not really fair to blame all on him.
He wanted his own ex/bandmates to stop paying under the name they worked on for years and he wanted authory over THEIR work!!.That because of his over-inflated ego.His claim was for the authory of the name, music and lyrics of the whole Pink Floyd,im sure of that. He obviously lost, he didnt wrote ALL the lyrics or composed ALL the music.
Yes I know. But David ended up with all the rights, so whats the difference? Band is split anyway. At least they still plan to reunite, so check out some of the newer vids. They are all in, except David So far.
Not true: if Gilmour would have ended with all the rights,Waters wouldnt even be able to play HIS songs with the solo band and that is certainly not the case. Thats what Waters tried to do to the others, that would have killed the band. The court and both sides agreed not to touch the authories and set up the proper royalties. They also agreed everyone was entitled to use the songs, but the name remains with the band, as it is fair. Waters authories and royalties for the "PIG" concept were set.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
My point is that he treated his bandmates like they did nothing for the band, when they actually composed as much geat material as himself and contributed with much better arrangements and performances than his own, and he also wanted credit for the work he DIDNT do. His claims were ridiculous and made a total prick of him, despite his talent. I think ill write a song like South Park's "Kyle's mom is a bitch", but about Roger Waters being an asshole.
On another note, this opera thing was crap and kind of indulgent even for Roger. There are many, many people who find him an important voice in their lives but who he seems to leave further and further behind. What happened to the introspection of early floyd? To some degree the Wall and the Final Cut were a bit flat, a bit pessimistic and Amused to Death has now transitioned into Anti-Bush Ballads.
Hey watch what you say about The Wall dude, to me that was a very dynamic album, emotionally and musically. It's tied at number 1 on my list of the greatest albums ever with Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. I can never decide which one I like more because they are all good in very differant ways.
Honesty, I hope someone here gets this, Roger would have made a great Socialist if he wasn't so rich. Seems after KAOS and techno-reformist-obsession he has really latched on to Bourgeois Liberalism, old style. It suits him up to the degree that anything could with his lifestyle, but fails of course to explain the real feelings in DSOTM etc.
No iam sorry Roger Waters is not a douche he is an extremely clever man and musician I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr Waters and to talk to him as a musician, i think he is great
talk about lucky! I'd love to meet him since I love Pink Floyd (my favorite band) and I like his solo work, but I wish he would rejoin the band. He always acts like he did everything in Pink Floyd by himself, but David and Rick helped a LOT. Just look at the writing credits for Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon and you'll see how much Rick and David hepled. Not to mention David's singing voice and the fact that he wrote the music in the best songs on The Wall and animals
yeah i heard that too, David says he is retired now. Roger said he is willing to make a new album as long as he has complete creative control. They say they are on speaking terms, but you can still see evidence of Roger's huge ego in interviews and on his myspace page... but I guess I would have an ego like that if I was the main songwriter on the greatest albums ever made. I just hope that Roger will rejoin the band and David will decide not to retire.
Actually, Rick is probably the main reason that Floyd will never regroup and tour again. Roger treated him pretty shabbily and pretty much humiliated him when he fired him from the band.
Me encanta que se postee en español ¡que se sepa que habemos miles de fans de roger waters que hablamos en español!, pero ¡por favor! escribe sin faltas de ortografia... nos dejas mal a todos.

All five guys made what Pink Floyd is today! so STFU Roger and stop putting your guilt on others.

it kills me laughing reading the comments of so many envious pricks who don't actually know him at all, who don't have a clue about what really happened to the pink floyd...
he's a genius.
everything he does speaks by himself.

@UKImhotep what happened to floyd then?? why did roger leave and sue david.??...why did he only let david only sing one song on the final cut?
5tonyvvvv 1 year ago
@UKImhotep He is a Hypocrite! he talks about Human right and stuff and yet he dragged his band mates to court for using the name Pink Floyd, talk about double standards this guys wants everyone to tear down the wall and yet he lives in his fortress.

i totally agree he was a complete dick. pink floyd are 4 members- not one, and (arguably) their only flawless album, (the darkside,) was the only album where every member inputed their creativity equally, before roger's ego spoiled everything

if Roger wasnt such a asshole back in the 80's , pink floyd would be one of the richest bands of all time. Could you think if the whole band stayed together for the 90's and early 2000's?
aroojack 3 years ago
Ok, thats it, I admit it, hes not as big of an ass as Im going on about, its really just the arrogance for the most part, but hes finally come down from that ego/power trip.

This is truy Roger's best work of art. The DVD which comes with the CD shows this guy's sense of humor.

Roger Waters is clearly a Genius in music. Not only for his excellent Efforts in Pink Floyd from 1964-1984, but his Solo work and his genius achievement in Ca Ira
applewontons 3 years ago 2
THE BEST NEWS!! started as a rumour about a month ago, when Mason declared on a TV flash interview that he spoke to Waters and he consented to a reunion, so it was again Gimours call: i said CRAP! But then, a week ago, i saw it announced in Hotmail News, now its all over the net: the clasic lineup is back for a series of charity concerts in 2008 and 2009, after Roger Waters DSotM tour!! my guess, Gilmour finaly consented. WAAAIT!! did i just see a PIG flying trough my window?

Well, there ya go, They reunite for good causes, stop whining.

Ca Ira is a beautiful opera. I love darkside, animals, wall etc... give Ca Ira a chance
poodle720 4 years ago
whoever bases the artists they like on the artist personality is going to be very disappointed. Sure Roger Waters is a asshole but personally I couldn't care less. He is an excellent artist and writer and thats all that really matters. As for the opera thing, people really need to open there minds. And if you can't get away from rock and roll (which I love) I feel terrible for you.
drksidethemoon33 4 years ago
how is he an asshole? Your an asshole.
Aqualung71 3 years ago
He was an asshole in his prime....he mellowed out for sure.
clehneis 3 years ago
Guys a genius, why do you call him an asshole? Seems cool to me. Yeah, he mellowed, he is older, dauh.
Aqualung71 3 years ago 2
How is Roger an asshole. That question takes at least three boxes to answer. During the Animals tour he began to feel alienated to the masive audiences and thats how the inspiration for The Wall came up. Picture this: "Guys i have 20 songs of my own composition already written. Lest make a double album!!". The others agreed of course, to support his talent, but it was a set-up. Later he pushes the management to fire Richard Wright as a member of the band, but kept him as a musician for the tour.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
Later he kicks Wirght off the band makes this album called "The final Cut" out of songs rejected for The Wall. Then he announces the termination of his contract with EMI and his departure from the band to pursue his solo career. The others are a bit stunned first, but decided to go on with Pink Floyd. Then Waters started a lawsuit against the band for the use of the name of the band and the use of all the music and lyrics. The MF tried to kill the band man!! of course he lost,he had no right to do so
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
Comes down to this:A) Waters didnt named the band and he doesnt merit the whole greatness of Pink Floyd.Hes a very important part, not the only one.B)The others also did great composition, arrangement and performance for the band, so they are as much entitled to continue the Pink Floyd legacy. To me, Roger Waters is a great artist, one of the best i ever seen, but what he did to Pink Floyd is called treason and it is militarily punished with a fucking shot in the back.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
Shit, get over it.
Aqualung71 3 years ago
Now i do recognized his talent, always have: he is a genious, the best damn songwriter in rock history,i went to his coincert in town and paid tickets for friends. But that doesnt make him a bit less an asshole and i perfectly understand why the others didnt wanted to work with him all this time. You were the one who asked why calling him an asshole pal,i just answered. You can research the details to find out how humiliating was for wright to work with him and how much insulting what he did was.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
Yeah, but that happened and it is over. You don't know him personally, he is probably a pretty cool guy. Sure, everyone can be an asshole sometimes. Check out Roger Waters Rants, those are funny.
Aqualung71 3 years ago
You can be a pretty cool guy and a total asshole at the same time. You dont know him personally either, but i think a mans actions speak for his education and values. Of course he has done great thingS like his participation in the fair trade campaing, the memorial fund for disaster relif, Live8, Live Earh and all his opinions and pollitical criticism. But that doesnt change the fact that he betrayed his own bandmates and tried to kill the best band ever.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
OK,I am cool but I'm an asshole, sounds like what you say about Roger. Give it a rest.
Aqualung71 3 years ago
He wanted the rights to the band, theres a difference. Yeah, thanks for the info, but that is history now isn't it? Yeah, David and Roger also didn't get along to well, that had something to do with it too. Not really fair to blame all on him.
Aqualung71 3 years ago
He wanted his own ex/bandmates to stop paying under the name they worked on for years and he wanted authory over THEIR work!!.That because of his over-inflated ego.His claim was for the authory of the name, music and lyrics of the whole Pink Floyd,im sure of that. He obviously lost, he didnt wrote ALL the lyrics or composed ALL the music.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
Yes I know. But David ended up with all the rights, so whats the difference? Band is split anyway. At least they still plan to reunite, so check out some of the newer vids. They are all in, except David So far.
Aqualung71 3 years ago
Not true: if Gilmour would have ended with all the rights,Waters wouldnt even be able to play HIS songs with the solo band and that is certainly not the case. Thats what Waters tried to do to the others, that would have killed the band. The court and both sides agreed not to touch the authories and set up the proper royalties. They also agreed everyone was entitled to use the songs, but the name remains with the band, as it is fair. Waters authories and royalties for the "PIG" concept were set.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
Well, Roger came up with the PIG concept. And Roger has a right to play the songs that he wrote. I am sure you are right, but what is your point?
Aqualung71 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
My point is that he treated his bandmates like they did nothing for the band, when they actually composed as much geat material as himself and contributed with much better arrangements and performances than his own, and he also wanted credit for the work he DIDNT do. His claims were ridiculous and made a total prick of him, despite his talent. I think ill write a song like South Park's "Kyle's mom is a bitch", but about Roger Waters being an asshole.
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
lol, very funny. Just give up. He Is may be egotystical and all, but he's not an asshole.

On another note, this opera thing was crap and kind of indulgent even for Roger. There are many, many people who find him an important voice in their lives but who he seems to leave further and further behind. What happened to the introspection of early floyd? To some degree the Wall and the Final Cut were a bit flat, a bit pessimistic and Amused to Death has now transitioned into Anti-Bush Ballads.
samboring 4 years ago
Hey watch what you say about The Wall dude, to me that was a very dynamic album, emotionally and musically. It's tied at number 1 on my list of the greatest albums ever with Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. I can never decide which one I like more because they are all good in very differant ways.
quiksilver12345678 4 years ago 7
Honesty, I hope someone here gets this, Roger would have made a great Socialist if he wasn't so rich. Seems after KAOS and techno-reformist-obsession he has really latched on to Bourgeois Liberalism, old style. It suits him up to the degree that anything could with his lifestyle, but fails of course to explain the real feelings in DSOTM etc.

Lucky, he is my all time hero. He's very brilliant. I can't wait till I find a copy of this opera.
sethmanjette12 4 years ago 2
talk about lucky! Not to mention David's singing voice and the fact that he wrote the music in the best songs on The Wall and animals
quiksilver12345678 4 years ago

he is the one who wants to rejoin the band, its gilmour who is refusing now, waters is kind of over his asshole period.....i think
lalalamort 4 years ago
yeah i heard that too, David says he is retired now. Roger said he is willing to make a new album as long as he has complete creative control. They say they are on speaking terms, but you can still see evidence of Roger's huge ego in interviews and on his myspace page... but I guess I would have an ego like that if I was the main songwriter on the greatest albums ever made. I just hope that Roger will rejoin the band and David will decide not to retire.
quiksilver12345678 4 years ago
Actually, Rick is probably the main reason that Floyd will never regroup and tour again. Roger treated him pretty shabbily and pretty much humiliated him when he fired him from the band.
