@devourerofbabies I am sure he would, as your selection possibly reflects the excellence of the players to be perfect, I can't argue with that. I can tell you that the electric guitar is a tool and it's used by musicians to sell music. rhythm, drive, attack, and pure showmanship wins the day AKA pete townsend, precision has nothing to do with it
Awesome video! Thanks for making this. Would add Mark Knopfler, Nils Lofgren for sure, but would have a hard time deciding who'd be bumped off your list. Sweet!
I am sorry for not agreeing with you, the ability to play fast does not make a guitar player great. Playing guitar also has to make sense, and be musical to the ears, be it rock and roll (my favorite) or classical, this stuff that you have put out makes no sense at all.
No Wes Montgomery, No Johnny Watson, No Charlie Christian, No Joe Pass, No John McLaughlin, No Steve Morse, No Allan Holdsworth......but lots of Page, Slash, and other Rock n Roll Gods
This is a list based on popularity and iconic status, GET IT STRAIGHT
@cherryorchards well it's about the most influencal guitarists and when you are popular you are influencal. That how i see it. Though i expected keith on the list because of the open chords
my top only mi opinion: 1.jimmy hendrix. 2.eric clapton. 3.ritchie blackmore. 4.jimmy page 5.pete townshend. 6.frank zappa. 7.chuck berry. 8.b.b king 9.gilmour. 10.van halen
Pretty good list except in my opinion for frusciante, prince and santana, they are not good guitarist and they didn't influence anybody. Millions of jazz monster guitarrists missing, and Tony Iommi, Dimebag, Ritchie Blackmore and Steve Morse have to be on any rock list, not only they are great but also influenced lots of others.
really guys dont bitch about the list. he could have easily put 30 classical guitarists on because classical guitarists blow away anyone in metal or rock so if u dont agree make your own list
Chet Atkins? Zakk Wylde? Randy Rhoads? Tommy Iommi? Terry King? Dave Mustaine? Darrell Abbot? Augustin Barrios? Pasquale Taraffo? Aldo Lagruta? Keith Richards? Ry Cooder? Buddy Guy?
Wtf? They are all great guitarists but, you're leaving out elements that are vital to guitarists around the world. I respect your opinion, I just disagree with it.
I agree if you talk about creating something new... Only change is that I would throw slash in a trashbin and put there Ritchie.... If you talk about best guitarists of all time I don't agree at all then I would put there Michael Romeo, Alexi Laiho, Dimebag Darrell, Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhoads and dudes like that.... And you spelled Alexi wrong, it's not Alexis.
No Arthur "Blind" Blake? No Keith Richards? The duo of Keith and Mick Taylor was sublime. Also, not to acknowledge the influence Johnny Thunders had on the next generation is pure ignorance.
Where is Redd Volkaert or Bill Kirchen on this list? Did I just miss them? Agree with others that Jean Baptiste "Django" Reinhardt should of been closer to the top.
Classical guitarist is always at higher level than Rock & roll guitarist because it 's hard to study .( Top R&R guitar at difficulty level 5 ,top classical guitar at difficulty level 12 , in general )

Chet and Wes(don't know or really listen to the others) are amazing musicians, but their influence didn't reach very far outside of the genres they played.
@fpereira77 I agree with this, I don't care how good he is... truthfully I think a lot of his stuff just sounds like him banging on his guitar in a complicated way.
@hesmon the man's a myth. "Jimmy is the best" is the most standardized answer to any question in the music world. It's like someone told that to his family at the day of his funeral, in order to confort them, and it sticked.
Nobody shhould be above jimmy is the greatest joke in the music world
@fpereira77 Nobody should be above jimmy is the greatest joke in the music world. Agreed when you say Jimmy, you mean Jimmy Page. It's not a joke about Jimi Hendrix.
@hesmon There is nothing wrong with Jimmy or Jimi. Both were great. I personally believe that neither of them are the all time best. For me I would have to say it is Django Reinhardt.
@guitarzilla100 Well in the end it's just about preference There are so many greats but to me Jimi made the best music and was so unique. If you purely look at technique, then I think Shawn Lane takes the cake but also Django, Tommy Emmanuel, Guthrie govan, etcetera etcetera. Ik just prefer Jimi. Because I have been such a long time fan, I can be a bit defensive when someone criticizes him.
Jimmy Hendrix said once in an interview that Jeff Beck was his favorite guitarist..Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page have also both said that they think Jeff Beck is the best guitarist alive today. Jeff Beck has played with Hendrix,Page,Clapton and SRV, He is unducted into the rock and roll hall of fame...Jeff Beck isn't even top 5 here. are you freaking retarded or have you never heard a guitar sing before??? WTF! P.S obviously people will have different views on places, but this is inexcusable..
I am sorry, this list does not include Chet Atkins--are you kidding me!! And Les Paul is 23!! And Chuck Berry is 15!! And don't you think Keith Richards ought to be in there somewhere??? And if you would really like to see a guitar player, check out Jerry Reed doing The City of New Orleans. It is simply the greatest.

hands down #1 is Jimmy Page. Hendrix is right there but nobody has more versatility and style than Page. He can play any style better than anyone else. To me that's what makes him the best.
Nice to see someone include Brian May for a change - he seems to get overlooked to often. There have been way too many great players to fit into a list like this. Segovia, Leo Kottke, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Richard Thompson, Steve Cropper. Jerry Douglas is awesome on the dobro.
I had to go through this really fast because there is no rational thought going on here. Did I MISS John McLaughlin amongst all of those shirtless losers of this mess?
What a load of rubbish. There are only 2 guitar originals. Charlie Christian (not even on the list here) and Jimi Hendrix. As Herb Ellis once said "everyone else only wishes they could play like one or the other. I'm a Christian man myself."
Why is Hendrix first? I hate that people think Hendrix was, "The best." Hendrix was good don't get me wrong. The man had soul, but to put him number one? No sir.
completely wrong!!! peter green wasnt even in the list. nor tommy emanuel n jeff beck was way down n so was robert johnson, u aint gotta clue m8 sorry
You have Eric Clapton, but not John Mayer, Synyster Gates, Tom Morello or Zachy?... Duuude. And why is Jimi always nr. 1? He was the guitar god BACK THEN! He redefined guitar, but that doesn't automaticly make him any better than some of the guys in your vid.
@killianshows Not even close man. He doesn't deserve to be in the top 100, let alone be even close to number one. I am not saying he sucks, but he is so far from being the best.
@killianshows Well, tell me his qualifications. I say that he has brought little to nothing new to guitar playing. Just the same old stuff. He hasn't revolutionized anything. Nor has he really majorly improved on any existing styles. He is good but far from the best. Just because you worship the guy doesn't mean he is the greatist guitarist alive fool. This is not an argument you can win, your musical knowledge is miniscule in comparison to mine. Do you know anything but metal and rock?
@guitarzilla100 I tell you something, jimi hendrix started playing guitar with bands 1964 (round about) now tell me a band which played their songs so awesome like Jimi played his songs???
And don´t say "THE ROLLING STONES"!
They don´t play bad, but they didn´t freaked out like jimi did it.
=> without jimi, metal and rock, wouldn´t exist!! (I say this)
@Zeitboss I wouldn't say that without Jimi, they wouldn't exist. Rock was well on it's way before Jimi. And metal would have grown out of it eventually with the progress Cream and Led Zeppelin (and many other bands) were making. However Jimi was very influencial. That is not disputable. And he was a great guitarist. I believe he played with rock n roll legend Little Richard, no? Many bands play their songs that well. Ritchie Havens, Louis Armstrong, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chet Atkins to name a few
Why is there only 2 black people and plus why does one only have a picture and they both have the shortest time in this video

@guitarzilla100 dude you dont know a real guitarist if one beat your @#$

@Zeitboss and without metal, it would be bad (I SAY THIS) DAMN
Zeitboss 2 months ago
@Zeitboss I wouldn't say that without Jimi, they wouldn't exist. Rock was well on it's way before Jimi. And metal would have grown out of it eventually with the progress Cream and Led Zeppelin (and many other bands) were making. However Jimi was very influencial. That is not disputable. And he was a great guitarist. I believe he played with rock n roll legend Little Richard, no? Many bands play their songs that well. Ritchie Havens, Louis Armstrong, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chet Atkins to name a few
