French politics are often VERY cynical, not only regarding their former colonies (Rwanda was not colony, but was French speaking and it was enough). In the former Yugoslavia they pretended to be with NATO and/or the UN but really Paris was on the Serb side (except many individual soldiers/commanders). Also most of the EU and others don't like French because of their unwarranted arrogance. Oh, and the best French soldiers are mostly not even French (the Foreign Legion).
