Please disregard the opening comments about the "Negro workers who picked up the music from the Acadians". The French speaking free people of color, Creoles & African Americans were some of the first families of LA. They helped the Acadians settle into the hot climate & worked alongside them as sharecroppers. Free people of color lived under separate laws in LA for almost 150 years fr 1725-1865 until the "one drop rule". All the progress they made came undone. Jim Crow set them back 90 more yrs
Chenier is one of the great innovators in American music. He revolutionized the sound of Zydeco and gave the accordian a sound that had never before been heard anywhere. His genius came with his spontaneity and humor sandwiched around his incredible musicianship.
Man, just got transported back in time to 1990 Breauxbridge Crawfish Festival and the first time I ever heard Zydeco and danced with that fine Canjun. what a nite!
@montella111 Thank you. I just snatched photos labelled Clifton Chenier from the web, to make a slide show. to go with the tune. I'm not going to remake it at this point, but now you've got me curious about John Delafose. Thanks again.
Clifton Chenier has a nite culb in Loreauville,Louisiana. That is still open today .You can hear all types of zydeco, blues, and swingout music.LIve zydeco band. and have a good time
I saw him at the Mississippi Delta Bluse Festival very early '70s...fantastic! Good Rockin' Doopsie was his protege' and the "crown Prince of Zydeco after the"crown King of Zydeco"(Chenier) died.
