Hypothetically u could increase coming into the 200kft range while V hasn't changed very much since the deceleration burn in LEO when u would be MUCH lower? I don't have any actual V figures to look at but it makes sense.
I guess no documentary is complete without an irritating inaccuracy. MACH 26>??!?!? wtf? Orbital velocity is Mach 25, so saying it's going greater than Mach 26 during re-entry is pure BS.
The orbiter increases in speed as it falls into a lower orbit and continues to gain speed until aerodynamic forces slow it down. So it is you who are inaccurate.
Let orbital speed at Earth radius + 150 miles = 4100 miles be X. Then orbital speed at Earth radius + 50 miles = 4000 = Y = 1.025 X. If X=25 then Y = 25.6 = 26 rounded off. Don't be a know it all when you can't back it up. Of course it is know it alls like you who, Limbaugh, Cheney etc. ruin everything in our country these days. -drl
Talk about "fuzzy math" LOL wow I hope you don't launch rockets because it sure looks like you can't even program your VCR! And what the hell does Limbaugh, or Cheney for that matter, have to do with anything? Man you're one whacked-out S-O-B!

He said John. Isn't it Robert Young and Bob Crippen?

No, it is John Young.

I'm an educated scientist, actually. What, may i ask, do you do? I mean besides pleasure yourself all day and eat bananas.

the orbiter DOES increase in speed, but not to the point of Mach 26. So once again, YOU are in accurate.

Orbital speed is proportional to the inverse of the distance from the center of Earth. Nothing fuzzy about it. You're just a know it all jerk.
antimatterXXXIII 2 years ago
@antimatterXXXIII
Wrong, fuzzy. mv**2/r = GMm/r**2 v=sqrt(GM/r)
It only goes as the square root of the inverse distance.

Good film, love space stuff. Only bad thing is the narrator is a FDA approved sleep aid X-D
