Guitar playing is ok but the way the singer drags out the quiet bit is a bit naff. All in all a tame butreasonable cover. I dont like that 80s look much but thats what they had to do then I guess. No one can touch Peter Green - he was in a class of his own with only BB King, Hendrix and other such legends as peers.
I'm a big Peter Green fan, this version kicks butt...Rick Vito is the goods. The only versions that blow are the ones that Buckingham did. Bob Welch kicked butt on it, too. As did the '94/95 versions with Dave Mason. All you Peter Green snobs...crawl back in your holes.
Dreadful. A family friendly corporate stadium rock version of a very angry song. Billy Burnette (with black hair) was completely out of place in Fleetwood Mac.
i don't see why anyone would have a problem with this, yes I loved the peter green mac best as well, but Buckenham can play and you have the original bass and drums so I like it that they drop back to cover themselves
I admit that with Burnette and Vito here, it is not the same as when Green was in the band. But I disagree that when Green left, the band was washed up. Buckingham could do this song good. When he left the band in 1987, it took 2 guitarists to replace him.

@lakelandchief Lindsay Buckingham is a very good guitarist, but not in the same league as Peter Green. There's therefore no point in listening other than from a historical point of view to anyone else playing Oh Well. A classic riff.
@lakelandchief I think there been 11 different line ups of the band this is from there blues era with Peter Green as frontman in late 60's, Id imagine every line up has performed this live at some point as it is a great & popular song from the Peter Green era John McVie and Mick Fleetwood have never left the band unlike every single other band member (some have left temporarily) which is lucky as its their names (Peter Green named the band incidentally)
@lakelandchief For the longest time only the version with Green was available on airplay. Then Balin took it on with the band & we hear this live one more often now.
@lakelandchief Lindsey and STevie were not in the band when this song was released ... Bob Welsh and Peter Green were original members of FM. I was born in '84 and I have been a FM fan since the day I was born. I love them! My mom was a huge fan... and had all their vinyls... up to 1989 (when she passed). I think she looked a lot like Stevie nicks... and it COULD be the reason why I love them so much... but It could also be because they are one of a kind. The best song writers / musicians ever
@wjf0ne yea you're right on the nail. Don't forget Danny though, that bloke could vibrato a whole bar chord, I've never seen anything like it. PG however with the possible exception of Hendrix is my favourite guitarist of all time. It's the touch & feel of the hammer-ons & pull offs, I guess Knofler isn't far behind either.
Went to see Peter Green at the Komedia Club, in Bath last night. Even in his pretty fragile state, his version of 'Oh Well!' knocked the SH 1 T out of this awful west coast mullet-headed rubbish.
Compared to a year ago, Peter Green isn't as fragile. The fact that's he's been touring on, and off for over a solid year is a very good sign. I've noticed (per Youtube) his confidence is growing stronger. As for this, Rick Vito was only playing "Oh Well" as the thousands of Lindsey Buckinham fans would want to hear it. Rick Vito actually saw Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac in Philadelphia in 1968. He was a true fan of the man. He's the Peter Green in the current Mick Fleewood Blues Band.
Fair comment about Vito. My opinion's based purely on this performance and what F.M. came to stand for. I saw the original line up several times and they smoked! Real raw blues. This has all the sharp bits smoothed off. I've seen Greeny a couple of times recently and his confidence is zero when he comes on stage. It takes a lot of boosting by Mike Dodd, who's brilliant and obviously cares hugely about the man, and audience response, which he gets in bucketloads. Then he starts to turn it on.
As for the "what FM came to stand for", I'm right with you. Had Peter Green stayed just one more year in FM, the 1970 Boston shows would've been released in 1970 highly promoted on LP, and the US audience would've remembered Green as a true guitar genius. It may have altered Danny Kirwan's decline, though Spencer was going to quit anyway. He didn't have any new ideas. Yet we have that brief period from late 1969-5/70, that Fleetwood Mac was the best live rock band on the planet.
Funny that Billy Burnette and RIck Vito are completely omitted from most Fleetwood Mac documentaries- certainly the ones the BBC have been showing recently!
@BluegoSanchez It's unfair to compare Stevie nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and even Bob Welch with these two jokers, although my favourite line up without doubt was the 68-69 line, they had done some great stuff in the 70's(e.g. the white Fleetwood mac album & Rumours although far far away musically from The original PG's Fleetwood Mac Great for other reasons ) Rumours is still one of my top Five albums of all time there is not one song that isn't Fantastic on the whole album
i think it was more to do with danny kirwan being awesome playing lead on this song than these guys being rubbish......comparing both bands, and yes they were totally different bands, is silly cuz danny and peter are obviousy so much better
BTW, research the things that were said about Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac by some black musicians in Chicago circa 1969. They said the same things, about some white British teenagers covering black Chicago blues, that aome of you are saying about Fleetwood Mac covering a Fleetwood Mac song!
I'd like to know your research. My guess it comes from the Chess sessions 1/69. It the was misconceptions the Rolling Stones left five years prior. Yet Otis Spann (playing with FM that day) liked Fleetwood Mac so much he invited them to NYC to be the backing band for his next blues album. Eddie Boyd also allowed FM to play as the backing band for his sessions under the Blue Horizon label. As for Buddy Guy, I think he was intimidated by Peter Green. Eric Clapton didn't scare him at all.
Ah, you might have me here. I checked liner notes for the "Chicago" CD my reference was not there. I keep thinking it came from Mick's autobiography, which I sadly loaned out and never got back.
Of course there are well-documented stories of Willie Dixon suing Led Zep (rightfully, IMO) for using his compositions without credit or royalties. And Howlin' Wolf's reticence toward the London Sessions with Clapton, Winwood, etc. Point is, why not let the music stand on its own merits, period?
Glad I can enjoy all incarnations of the Mac without having to dump on most of them. This is a pretty hard-hitting "Oh, Well" and I love the power of it. Totally different from how P. Green did it, but I love both versions.
And shouldn't Mick & John have some say about whether or not to cover a song they originally played on? I love the fact that two of the original artists feel qualified to perform this song, and a bunch of Internet pro's feel qualified to say otherwise!
@BeauJames59 AGREED! I guess that the "music machine" was in full bore at this point, and Mick and John either didn't care, or thought it was "acceptable". But I'm with you on this one... saw the Buckingham/Nicks version of "the Mac" do this once. As much as I appreciated them as a duo prior to their joining FM, it just wasn't the same.
The great Peter Green song and performance woefully done by some jive LA "Ricky Ricardo jr. looking wannabees. I guess it was the 80's and big hair bur come on now.
Whoever posted this hasnt a clue who Peter Green is and just how good the original is! If it aint Peter Green it anit worth seein - get this shite off youtube
oh god...this is an abomination to the origional. peter green would hate what they have to his song! the guitar isnt too bad but the lyrics are GOD AWEFULL!!
But, i gotta say, this version is technically flawless...

@lakelandchief Yes it was Peter Green's masterpiece from 1969. Got to no. 2 in the charts in UK!

this is a good effort but not that good. original in this case is best
adolman13n 1 year ago 3
@lakelandchief Peter Green wrote it back during the original FM lineup.
Tremolux59 1 year ago
@lakelandchief Lindsey and STevie were not in the band when this song was released ... Bob Welsh and Peter Green were original members of FM. I was born in '84 and I have been a FM fan since the day I was born. I love them! My mom was a huge fan... and had all their vinyls... up to 1989 (when she passed). I think she looked a lot like Stevie nicks... and it COULD be the reason why I love them so much... but It could also be because they are one of a kind. The best song writers / musicians ever
84tashalaree 10 months ago
@84tashalaree Actually Bob Welch came much later, but I love him too. FM has had 16 memebers over the years!

This isn't a patch on Peter Green & Danny Kirwan - but no-one could be for me. Thanks for the post though, it reminds me of the 80's
davetowers1 1 year ago
@davetowers1 When Peter Green did it, it was the blues, when this lot do it, it's just music.
wjf0ne 1 year ago
@wjf0ne yea you're right on the nail. Don't forget Danny though, that bloke could vibrato a whole bar chord, I've never seen anything like it. PG however with the possible exception of Hendrix is my favourite guitarist of all time. It's the touch & feel of the hammer-ons & pull offs, I guess Knofler isn't far behind either.

How could Fleetwood Mac degenerate into this dreadful rubbish :(

@jedmon01
yes i agree, a horror sound... Pop ... just shit.
Some songs never should be covered. All these Follow ups of Greeny.

This is sooooo awful ....

Went to see Peter Green at the Komedia Club, in Bath last night. Even in his pretty fragile state, his version of 'Oh Well!' knocked the SH 1 T out of this awful west coast mullet-headed rubbish.
Good concert - GO GREENY!!
GETAUSERNAMEGETALIFE 2 years ago
Compared to a year ago, Peter Green isn't as fragile. The fact that's he's been touring on, and off for over a solid year is a very good sign. I've noticed (per Youtube) his confidence is growing stronger. As for this, Rick Vito was only playing "Oh Well" as the thousands of Lindsey Buckinham fans would want to hear it. Rick Vito actually saw Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac in Philadelphia in 1968. He was a true fan of the man. He's the Peter Green in the current Mick Fleewood Blues Band.
strangeones4 1 year ago
Fair comment about Vito. My opinion's based purely on this performance and what F.M. came to stand for. I saw the original line up several times and they smoked! Real raw blues. This has all the sharp bits smoothed off. I've seen Greeny a couple of times recently and his confidence is zero when he comes on stage. It takes a lot of boosting by Mike Dodd, who's brilliant and obviously cares hugely about the man, and audience response, which he gets in bucketloads. Then he starts to turn it on.
GETAUSERNAMEGETALIFE 1 year ago
As for the "what FM came to stand for", I'm right with you. Had Peter Green stayed just one more year in FM, the 1970 Boston shows would've been released in 1970 highly promoted on LP, and the US audience would've remembered Green as a true guitar genius. It may have altered Danny Kirwan's decline, though Spencer was going to quit anyway. He didn't have any new ideas. Yet we have that brief period from late 1969-5/70, that Fleetwood Mac was the best live rock band on the planet.
strangeones4 1 year ago
Yep! - we're in agreement. Doesn't happen too often on YouTube from what I've been reading. It's been good to chat. Cheers!

Can you believe little Stevie would end up with this being HER band

k ive just watched lindsay play this and id say these guys r actually much better.
jimmydanpage 2 years ago
What a load of garbage? Why oh why did the band start introducing yanks and stupid yank tarts. This trash is about as bluesy as Donny Osmond
BluegoSanchez 2 years ago
Funny that Billy Burnette and RIck Vito are completely omitted from most Fleetwood Mac documentaries- certainly the ones the BBC have been showing recently!
IRNDRUsan 2 years ago
Right on Bluego. Mick-on-the-money must know these tarted up Crazy Horses are more overblown soundmen than heavy bluesmen.
DougPatton1 2 years ago
@BluegoSanchez It's unfair to compare Stevie nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and even Bob Welch with these two jokers, although my favourite line up without doubt was the 68-69 line, they had done some great stuff in the 70's(e.g. the white Fleetwood mac album & Rumours although far far away musically from The original PG's Fleetwood Mac Great for other reasons ) Rumours is still one of my top Five albums of all time there is not one song that isn't Fantastic on the whole album

Nice to see Rick Vito is playing with The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, and still performing this song.
Malcolm751 2 years ago
Terrible bad dream of a cover.
ploopymops 2 years ago
i think it was more to do with danny kirwan being awesome playing lead on this song than these guys being rubbish......comparing both bands, and yes they were totally different bands, is silly cuz danny and peter are obviousy so much better
jimmydanpage 2 years ago
BTW, research the things that were said about Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac by some black musicians in Chicago circa 1969. They said the same things, about some white British teenagers covering black Chicago blues, that aome of you are saying about Fleetwood Mac covering a Fleetwood Mac song!
spankiek 2 years ago
I'd like to know your research. My guess it comes from the Chess sessions 1/69. It the was misconceptions the Rolling Stones left five years prior. Yet Otis Spann (playing with FM that day) liked Fleetwood Mac so much he invited them to NYC to be the backing band for his next blues album. Eddie Boyd also allowed FM to play as the backing band for his sessions under the Blue Horizon label. As for Buddy Guy, I think he was intimidated by Peter Green. Eric Clapton didn't scare him at all.
strangeones4 2 years ago
Ah, you might have me here. I checked liner notes for the "Chicago" CD my reference was not there. I keep thinking it came from Mick's autobiography, which I sadly loaned out and never got back.
Of course there are well-documented stories of Willie Dixon suing Led Zep (rightfully, IMO) for using his compositions without credit or royalties. And Howlin' Wolf's reticence toward the London Sessions with Clapton, Winwood, etc. Point is, why not let the music stand on its own merits, period?
spankiek 2 years ago
Glad I can enjoy all incarnations of the Mac without having to dump on most of them. This is a pretty hard-hitting "Oh, Well" and I love the power of it. Totally different from how P. Green did it, but I love both versions.
And shouldn't Mick & John have some say about whether or not to cover a song they originally played on? I love the fact that two of the original artists feel qualified to perform this song, and a bunch of Internet pro's feel qualified to say otherwise!
spankiek 2 years ago
shrug.
Doesn't sound half bad music wise, get over yourselves and past your bias.
