  • Chuck: I cant really look into the future that far.

Interviewer: You cant look five years from now?

Chuck: Well I can look, but who knows maybe ill be dead.

  • Nice to see some responsible youngsters adhering to the given rights of a State declared to be one of Liberty, seen as distinct from oppression driven by aristocratic forces constituted from venal attitude and facile servitude to holier than thou Establishment certainties. The focus on violence was of course stupid and hypocritical.

  • best ending line

  • that's some crazy shit i would love to have been there xD

  • wow boo fucking hoo, welcome to the real world!

  • 2:05 That looks like and sounds like the same exact guy that twenty years later was behind the LAPD fucking up Rage Against the Machine's show at the Democratic National Convention in 2000. I swear to god. He's seen talking to reporters at the end of a video about the incident. Cops were just unloading rubber bullets and tear gas into the crowd randomly and trampling people with horses. Go to this video: /watch?v=I2-10RFTmIU&feature=related

    at the time: 30:30

  • @DontEatEggs666 I think you meant to give this link: watch?v=0g_MNpS9hM0&t=30m30s

Not the same guy, but he looks and acts like a total prick.

  • Hahaha this is hilarious fuckin cops and dumb shit news reporters. "Is the punk movement part of the Nazi movement" haha people were and always will be fuckin retarded. They wanted to see Black Flag play and the fuckin cocksucking police had to ruin it.

  • The LAPD rocks and black flag were commie scum!

  • i dont think punk like this can happen nowadays because we have too much shit to distract us and to tell us, "no, dont be mad, here's a ipad. no, dont be creative. go to the the movies instead, log on to facebook". someone has to say, "Get off your fuckin asses!"

  • @punkkilledhippie well said

  • was that jello biafra in the beginning

  • stop bitching! theres still great hardcore bands out there. if you dont know about them it just means youre old and need to get into something else. dont wish for old bands back, just start new bands!!

  • its so funny that all of the band members of black flag are so educated and chill, cept maybe ron hehe

  • lol those cops are intimidating as fuck

"therefore we went inside and had the individuals that were inside exit the location"

and it shows the clip of all the stormtroopers going inside to open up a can of whoop ass on a room full of teenagers

  • @alifeofarcticsounds Hahaha! =D

  • lol I guess what Beth had to say wasn't important.

  • cleanup

  • "What was this sieg heil? That to me brings up the nazi movment" It amazes me to look back on the 80's and 90's and see what shit-for-brains some of these TV personalities really were. Not that it's that much better these days with Fox News being the embarrassments that they are... but Jesus... read a fucking book or learn something about your topic before you start running off at the mouth in a televised interview.

  • Or some rumor gets spread, makes its way to cops, they show up to bust ass knowing hey people know this is going on so we can do it.

    Fucking disgusting

  • @kcyclean1 I call BS

  • they live, we sleep

  • Ladies and Gentlemen...Chuck Dukowski's eyebrows.

  • man.... Chuck is fuckin awesome

  • anyone who listens to hip hop is a dick. because there is one more punk band out there with an obscure tune on some compilation that ate shit because the rec exec's were con squares.

  • This video looks like it was encoded in the windows 3.1 era

  • This is why Punk is the shit it's so damn in your face

  • BLACK FLAG: anarchy

    sik name

  • hey every local punk band was a problem especially when it came to the power. they were just too much for the old timers. and unfortunately us comfortable suburban kids laughed at em like they were a joke. wished i taken a step further. ny sucked. sure it was much better elswhere in the late 70s.

  • My first gig was in a catholic churchs basement in 1980. One of the priests checked it out. His face was drained white after the first tune. He ran away.Kodak moment.

  • such hypocrites. maybe he got a hard on.

  • Probably we were 14 and 15 year olds.

  • the owners called the cops. just like i said before. punk was too much for the old timers. most likely, the crowd was destroying the place. remember the words of darby crash " the management...blah blah blah" he was telling the crowd to destroy the place. ok billy haley rock around the clock all over again. teenagers are pains in the asses. the owner wanted to make some easy money and he got screwed. so whats the moral of the story? we all got screwed. that old punk place is a hip hop club.

  • i love punk but i also love hip hop and rap cus alot of these rappers have alot of knowledge about the streets and and about being poor and getting fuked over by the government but now a days when fags like u think about hip hop or rap u think about gay artists like lil wayne and talk shit about a genre u dont know shit about when theres alot of great artists sending out good messages

  • i don't know hip hop who the fuck is lil wayne. you sound like some street bagger. wake up dude. get a life and stop sweating the ... you know who i mean.

  • okay, yeah there are alot of artists that have the street knowledge. but then there are even more who abuse that shit and claim to have had a harsh upbringing because ppl eat theat shit up. it sells. hip hop is a corporate tool. it is the music industries bitch.

  • Greg let me play is Lucite Ampeg guitar many times. He swore it once belonged to John Kay of Steppenwolf. It used to have a chrome pickguard. Chuck had an Ibanez Flying V bass then, which he let me play. "Nice bass" I said. "Never call my bass nice" he repied. LOL.

They rehearsed constantly but never seemed to 'improve'. Ha ha ha.

  • This footage was what kicked off punk rock in America big-time in the minds of so many people who happened to catch it on late night TV. Back then access to any new forms of music was hard to come by and for many this was one helluva moment to realize that punk rock was alive and in America. I was a loner in Houston at the time with it's tiny little scene that later imploded. If anything punk rock in the USA started in places that it wasn't expected to start and LA was one those.

  • Chuck looks like Travis Bickle.

  • That's what got me to click the link... I said damn that guy looks like Taxi Driver.

  • In the beginning sounds like a Kike.

  • this is from 1980. er, at least, the concert footage.

  • I'm asian News reporter Trisha Takanawa

  • where have bands like this gone? ive been to punk shows, but you can barely call them that compared to this, where did this poser shit come from when theres blakc flag out there, its such a good band

  • the general feeling of the old shows just switched genres

    try death metal or thrash

THe black dahlia murder has great shows but vocals aren't for everyone

  • well 80s hardcore is gone but punk rock is alive.theres just many sub genres then there was.iut was just punk rock, hardcore and punk pop back in the 80s.now we got skate punk, melodic hardcore, celtic punk, folk punk, cow punk tons of other subgenres

  • @sk8erboi4321 Problem is that the vast majority of these "sub-genres" are really watered down and boring as fuck. Punk seems to have "died" with the end of the post-punk wave in the mid '90s. The closest thing to the real thing in present day would probably be the lo-fi hardcore movement up in Canada. Other than that, most new bands are simply unable to amuse me. We need something new. Something even better than the past.

  • @StalkandStrike Maybe a huge part of today's bands are too wealthy to be authentic in a fucked up way.

  • @StalkandStrike Yeah you cant find bands like Black Flag or This Misfits now a days....now Green Day is punk.....fuck even the 90 had better punk then now a days

  • @StalkandStrike this still happens as often as it used to, your in the wrong scene

  • amazing video quality

  • His thoughts and feelings are as true today as they ever were...LONG LIVE BLACK FLAG!

  • thats chuck dukowski. the bassist for black flag

  • thats not Henry Rollins

    another singer?

  • smart guy :)

  • He looks like Kevin Spacey with a mohawk.

  • can you post the whole seg?

  • i used to live in pedro way back when, 78, on 11th and center st., yea in the hood, sunday morning i could count the pickets missing from my fence to see how well saturday night went. look to see any bullet holes were in my car." those were the day's my friend ,thought they'd never end" now 2009 we're still looking for change. funny how the pendulum swings , back and forth and back and forth ...... what have we learned ?

  • I gotta say, kudos to the lady. Instead of making Dukowski look like an agressive little idiot, she gives him the opportunity to come across as the calm, intelligent young man that he is. The cops must have gotten real mad if they watched it on TV in their nice homes.

  • guys...guys...GUYS! shuuuuush. I'm listening to the Flag.

  • kinda funny how he says "maybe in 4 years itll all be gone" talking about how hardcore punk is an outlet and maybe they wont need an outlet anymore, and most of the hardcore punk bands only lasted from 80-85 give or take on the specific bands.

  • that women is a bitch. she dosent know what punk music is. if she thinks it was too violent then she is to old to be in the media

  • that's Rona Barrett, the gossip queen. back in that day Rona was synonomous with gossip. those were much different times. punks were still an oddity back then. the average joes were freaked out by punks because it was the first time they had ever seen anything like it. nowadays you see it everywhere you look. they make money off of it now. back then it was a small culture of a few hundred people who looked very weird and it scared lots of moms and dads.

  • shes only doing her job. you cant blame someone whos only looking for info. im not a fan of the media .i was a punk rocker at one time.

  • This was a far peice of work by ronna Barret. But we did suffer from crap like Chips,Quincy,Class of 1984 movie.

  • "...we got arrested at Blackie's last week for playing punk-rock-music...they called us 'nuisance in public', or something like that..."

  • oh yeah, thats real original

  • you men it's not, right? you're being sarcastic, aren't you? damn, it was my whole hearted intention to be original, but i guess i missed that mark. i'm reeeeal sorry man.

  • why did ppl put negative shit on my thing? curious cuz i said nothing mean at all. just giving out my opinion by observing everyones liking in music and i havent heard punk in soooooo long and i like it. new aged hip hop is gay underground shit is cool because they dont rap about being famous (well most of them). rock is good but theres so many bands that who knows whats good. i like the new and old metal thats out. like i said this is not negative twards anyone except the ppl who choose to be.

  • wtf black flag had swasticas? how the fuck they gonna be anarchists?

  • The swazzie has always been used by punks

    Since day 1

    Its used as shock value

  • They were not Anarchist. They had no politics.

The swastika was for shock value. After the Dead Kennedys put out "Nazi Punks fuck off" the swastikas came down. Only the neo nasty boneheads brought it back and it was not for shock this time but for their real feelings towards non white people like myself.

  • also they say in this interview that the nazi stuff was satire about the police.

  • Punks not dead

  • real punk is

  • That is true but i mean the attitude isnt except some foney faggots but thats it

  • You're right.

  • There are still some real punk bands alive today

But keeping with tradition you probably havnt heard of them

Death metal has always been more or less main stream

Real metal always has and always will exist

(in saying that i personally prefer 90s metal like ministry/godflesh/neurosis/cradle of filth(early)/samael etc

'The Rabble' is a good new punk band Kinda more like The Exploited and Black Flag (The glory days are gone but the attitude still lives)

  • Man... what happened to punk? I guess the real stuff never will go mainstream but this is a pretty far cry from the commonly understood 'punk rawk' of today, seems to me

  • haha. i know. to some people Avril Lavigne is "omg sooooooooo punk rawwk". and when you take them to a show they would be like "I THOUGHT YOU WERE TAKING ME TO SEE A PUNK SHOOOW" "well this is REAL PUNK, dumbshit."

There will probably be another "surge" of it pretty soon, in my opinion. With all the shit the world is going through, people are gunna look back and punk is going to have another "wave". lol.

    but it won't be mainstream.

the closest it ever got to being mainstream was in 77'.

  • lol. punk being close to mainstream in '77? how old are you? because i'll tell you one thing, punk was nowhere near being mainstream in '77. it was the furthest thing from mainstream. 1977 seems bigger than life now, but you'd be lucky to hear punk on the radio once a week. there were no computers. you had to hunt for the records because they were hard to find. it all was very word-of-mouth. you'd see the same 30 punks at every gig. if anything, punk is much more mainstream now than ever.

  • bravo, i agree with you . most on here are ill informed but its reassuring to know their are more people like you.

  • punk will never be mainstream. you're dumb. the closest it's ever been (though it really hasn't ever been) is probably in the mid or late-eighties when stupid jock idiots and homophobes from orange county and such started coming to shows just to beat up on kids.

  • If its played on a mainstreem rock station it isnt punk rock. The underground DIY bands still exist. They just have an easier time getting their stuff herd due to the internet. In the 80s all we had was fanzines&collage radio.

  • Yeah, but I feel the music now is very unappreciated, just because it's so easy to get. I remember when I was a kid, me and a few of my friends, used to listen to the shit out of the albums we had, used to swap discs, stuff like that.

But I guess there's a good side to it, seeing how Internet made it easy to download albums. I guess more people will make music because they really want to, and not because of the money.

  • Its also better for the bands. People who wouldnt normally come accross their music but will still like it are exposed to it.

  • dude some of the cops would START fights! the cops would come in and some cop would go up to some kid and be like "did you just call me a mother fucker?" and the kid would be like "wtf man?" and the cop would be like "i think you did" and they would start bashin heads!

  • chuck is right on! I can't beleieve this is the same guy who is in the misfits. Black flag needs to reunite with keith morris. Also, I have been to dozens of hardcore punk shows and only a hand full of hiphop clubs and their is so much more violence at the clubs. punk is a huge misconception!!!

  • american hardcore much?

  • exactly what I was thinking.

  • Dez is singing.

  • who is this singing???

  • sounds like Dez

  • Man, the fuzz were always hounding the Flag.

    Watching 'em too.

  • Dez!

  • and im talking about the pictures

  • they were moshing dis is bull crap

  • "Tommy-hawk haircut" bwa ha ha ha!!!

  • ahhh yes...good times....black flag and misfits violence...oh wait...i was only like 2yrs old then...nevermind...

  • dude, rollins helped define the era. like him or not he is a legend. i saw black flag live and it was fuckin awesome!

  • It's perplexing how so many so-called fans diss on Rollins when it was Greg's band, and he recognized his talent enough to keep him around for five years. And Chuck and Henry were super close friends back then and still are to this day. All of rock!!!

  • Oh how I love you black flag.

  • TRUTH

  • gimme gimme gimme'

    more interviews

  • Any Idea on the date this aired?

  • Rise Above!

  • Well said... well said...

  • fuck that Black flag rules

  • news is allways full of shit.

  • Hermosa Beach??......Im lost lady! Oh well.......BLACK FLLLAAAGGG!!!!!

  • It's a city in California.

  • yea i know that. I didnt think Flag were from Hermosa. But oh well.

  • my last comment was for musicmagelynn.......but yea....FLAG RULES!!!!!!! fK everbody else.......except the Clash.......okay and a few others.

  • This is a great document and punks today have it way to easy.So what happined to chuck? He was a great spokesman.

  • zig heil zig heil hahhaa dumb bitch

  • i'd like to see someone call henry a "neo nazi". that person would wake up a few days later with their tongue hanging out their ass.

  • How anyone can tie this band or any member to neo nazi`s is beyond me. The band is pretty liberal or libretarian as a whole.

  • interviewers are not my thing. every question they ask me i'm just like "yeah. mhmm. sure. go fuck off or something? i dunno?"

  • interviewers always suck on tv

  • Why didn't people just listen to the lyrics?

  • Fuck man dukowski is so calm and collected the whole time.

And what about at the end just before it gets cut off:

"Well I can look, but who knows? Maybe I'll be d..." hahahaha

  • haha yeah he made some pretty composed arguments there.

  • Objective speaking...Now I get it..I'm gonna start doing that..it helps to show what CRAZINESS people have on their minds..like the interviewer..HAHA..yes..she seemed a bit

condecending twords Black Flag..I wonder why that is. This is SUCH a good idea. BEUTIFUL.

  • "with a particular following" haaaahaaahaaa damn straight ya cunt

  • hey bitch, its sieg heil, not zig hell

  • hahaha this is fucking sweet

  • It's hard to raise hell like a punk when your all down strung out. This interview is pretty cool! I was in the scene a few years after this interview. I actually remember seeing it on TV (and Black Flag live a few of times).

People were afraid of punkers back then. Now you see some kid with a mohawk or green hair and everyone thinks the kid is celebrating because he/she got a scholarshit to YALE, or got accepted to the debate team....

    Go Figure...

  • well,i just listen as well as play the music. and i dont rebel against anything for the simple fact that where i live and the time i live in if i did that everyone would think im a terrorist. plus im scared to rebel against my family. sorry im not punk enough for everyone.

  • Fuck that fuckin bitch violence is everywhere they try to blame societies poblems on underground shit all the time.Oh yeah kids are fuckin violent too its just part of being a youth

  • Man it was always the pigs at every gig that started the shit

  • Hahahahaha, that's funny.

  • not doing drugs is for pussies? I think pussies are people who are trying to escape reality and not deal with it by taking drugs...... Or people who won't stand up to their peers. Self Medicating. So does taking drugs make you a man or something? Guess you beleive Marlboro commercials from 50 years ago. Do you beleive that opening a bud light is going to make 20 hot girls drop into your lap? Marketing, it's amazing how some people fall for it.

  • haha you are so fucking dumb

  • Wow, you are an idiot!

  • How old are you? I'm 33. I know so many people who thought drugs were cool, who wish they hadn't taken them now. I just always thought they seemed so expensive and uneconomical, not to mention bad for my health.

  • ha this is awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • AHAHAHAHA who knows maybe ill be dead

    oh chuck you rascal

  • ahh punks what a great it is !

  • youtube would not suck if you kept your comments to yourselves

  • well naw I'm not worrying about what others think I think it is sad that someone will be ignorant enough to call me a wimp for what I said . . . but I dunno it's hard to call myself straight-edge when I think that I'm a better person on coke

  • stupid old lady!!! punk is not a nazi movement!!! she should just shut up!!!

  • Fuck off! You scat-muncher!

  • FUCK THE POLICE!!!

  • The police stopped the show because of "Minors who are stoned?" Isn't that the point of going to a concert?

  • if you're a loser

  • Have you been to many rock shows? There's usually a big cloud of smoke. It's quite common. I was being sarcastic. Not that that translates through a keyboard. I, personally don't do any drink or drugs. Maybe your Straight Edge? I like that idea. And think what you may of Ted Nugent. I like his drug-free message.

  • yeah well I have been at the bad end of some drug use that I did myself, I couldn't sleep for like 6 months because I thought I was gonna have a heart attack BUT the biggest deal is friends who have been hurt . . . as for the show I wish those people would stop but y'know people don't understand and are set in their ways, I just get riled because of the pain, and chances are some asshole will call me a wimp for that last statement which just make it so much sadder. Yeah Ted is the man

  • hysterical tv stuff. back then crap like this was the only glimpse for east coast to see what west coast was up to, unless you went to check it out for yourself. if you lived in a town, it might have been the only indication there were *others* out there.

  • god i hate people like her.

  • Being punk is just being your fucking self and not following anyone else's bullshit. There is no real definition of being punk it is only a title.

Just and do your own thing, no matter what anyone thinks and says!!!

  • fuck stop compaining about the fucken music!!!!!shit just sit back and enjoy it!

  • I don't think being a punk means having no money. Punk is a mental state of mind wanting to question motives by society; wanting to be out of the norm, much smarter and more advanced than society itself.

  • Punk became the norm in the late 8o's and that is what killed it.Noone can go back to the 80's and 70's and understand what punk was about...

  • maybe you should all just quit trying to figure out what punk is and quit telling everyone else what it is and LIVE IT!! BE AN EXAMPLE!!! FUCK!

  • why does the woman think theyre nazis? punks dont kill jews!!

  • nixer i'm middle class punk and i dont rebal agienst my parents i rebal agienst suits and war [ass hole]and i'm self payed i work for $

  • A true punk rebels against EVERYTHING! Rebeling against parents is the first thing a kid rebels against. Is that not true?

  • Who's Daphne and why is it when she talks the video screws up?

  • Interesting stuff, insightful.

  • hey i remember those good ol' daze. wow. when they shut down the whiskey. diving over a fence to get away from the lapd and meeting a doberman. good thing i was too drunk to feel most of it. rockin!

  • Chuck is rippin' this bitch in haaaaaaaalf! The chick beside him is sitting there worshipping his

sinister ass!! I love you chuck! I love you man!

I'm not gay. I'm just happy. That's right.

    Well done though...fuckin' seriously.

  • im trying to say, Indian, african mexican their races right..........well punk is sort of a race it has beliefs and rituals.......like scanking and drinking im not fucking english all right its like....all im trying to say is that Punks are people too, if you take away something they like like mosh pits and scanking then they get mad thats what is up with fights and also.......................................................................BLACK FLAG KICKS ASS!!!!!!

  • Ah for fucks sake, punk isn't a sort of race. Love the music, but "hardcore" punks tended to be stupid cunts. Load of bored middle class brats rebelling against their parents .. but still taking cash handouts from them.

  • freakin amazing summary of those kids.

  • Isn't that what rock and roll is all about.

  • bad brains had no money

    like at all

and what do you think punk originally was?

it was working class people trying to be non conformist

    im middle class

but i work for my money

    and im not a cunt

i think any status of person should beable to be a punk

  • Most punk bands never made alot of money nor play on mtv. They were down to earth people. The kids today don't understand what punk was in the 80's-70's...they never lived it.

  • not trying to sound like a smartass prck but i do know what it was

but like you said i sadly never lived it

punk today is going down the drain

    except for the underground

    mainstream shit is kaput though

    DIY !!!!!!!!!!

  • when was mainstream shit ever good

  • more like working class people striving to change something. if all punk was about was being "different" punk would be pretty lame.

  • This is absurd punks are not just people, their sort of a race of rock and roll lovers, its like telling christians not to go to church, or muslims not to pray 5 times a day or jews to have a barmitsfa this is absurd!!!!!
