  • How much were the 20 acres?

  • good times

  • and now the banana building has collapsed...

  • rip banana building

  • dude you're cool!

    random

    ps building looks awesome

  • dos the gov know ur doing that or do u own the land XD

  • I bought the land. Over 20 acres.

  • nice

  • Is this some type of house your building?

  • Aw, you must have come into things in the middle. This is a workshop. ....for my giant robot.... amongst other things.

  • haha these vids are funny:) so atleast we know if theres ever some sort of nuclear holocaust we'll have one person who can make shelters and be funny at the same time i think you should cover it with soil or sumthing just incase of the latter becoming reality

  • I was in faxt planning to bury it. :-)

  • Normally the roof edge would terminate into a reglet and then flashed. I'm curious how you secure the metal to the 'cliff'.

Next, how do you intend to waterproof your banana building. There's some great self sticking materials out there with styrene butadeine styrene (SBS) but you have to get a cold weather version. The best would be coal tar pitch but not many folks like handling that material.

And no your stuff is never boring.

  • I'm not completely sure how I'll attach the banana to the cliff. Probably bolt it with some spray foam.... and an extra flashing bolted in the the cliff just above for water.

Most of the banana is waterproof already. all the bolts have rubber gaskets, and the pieces are shingled.

  • I recommend attaching a termination bar to the cliff it looks something like a 'lamed' in the Hebrew alphabet. Spray foam is usually sensitive to UV (and general weathering- including freeze thaw cycles) and not near strong enough.

Can you drill into the cliff? If so, I recommend drilling a term bar flush to the cliff (if you cannot cut a reglet into it) and then slide your banana flange up under the bottom leg of the 'lamed'.

  • I have no idea what all thoe fancy terms are. ...but I wouldn't put sprayfoam in the sun. Thats silly. ...and it doesn't have to be strong. It doesn't hold anything. It just fills a space. ...and when things are bolted to the cliff, it'll be smooshed in there pretty tight anyway. :-P

  • line drawing thing = LDT

  • ohh..... derr.... I'll try to remember that.

  • where is the web site?

  • augh! they erase url messages here! annoying!

my website is listed on my profile, but... I'll try to put it here too... in a sec...

  • j a m i u s

    d o t

    c o m

sheesh! I hope they at least let THAT show! Its also at the end of all my videos

  • hey matte why don't you make a paypal account ant give us the option to donate for u?

i would love to see something like that thinking that i help a little :)

    good luck

  • Oh, actually I set up a "donate the the Giant Robot Project" button on my website. You could totally help out there. Maybe I shouldn't have made it specifically a "giant robot" button.

You could easily put a note on it, telling me what the heck I should do with it if you want. :-P

I don't mean to sound uhh... whats the woord... like a begger, but.. seriously, any help would be totally appreciated. Thanks for even bringing it up. :-)

  • brother i will

i love these kind stuff u do i wish i could be there to have fun building that

    !

  • Ya, I'd love to have a humungous workshop where I could have collaborative projects, and lessons, and conferences, and uhh.... stuff like that.

  • jaimie, how will you seal the roofing tin to the rock - butynol? do you think maybe you will get water seeping through cracks in the rock inside the banana building - below the roof?

  • I think a little water will get in the seam, but I think I'll be spray foaming the seam, then drilling into the rock, and screwing the metal down. ....then laying plastic over it before I bury the entire building. :-)

  • Yay, my favourite internet nutter is back! Good job on the Banana building, looking good!

Can't wait to see the finished robot tho, keep it up!!

    Merry Xmas too :)

  • thanks from my nuts! oh.. wait.. I'M the nut. ya ya, thanks from me too. happy christmas. :-)

  • Your drive & determination is unreal.

Can't wait for the next installment!

    Merry Christmas!

  • yar... me needs more drivin'. I'm cowering from the cold!

  • wonder if you could bury that thing to insulate it... how much weight can it support do you think? Excellent work thus far ^_^ giant pop rivets woulda been awesome instead of havin to go side to side. maybe would make it weaker too though

  • ya, I though about rivets. I need something water tight, though.

and.... I plan on burying it. :-)

  • What the hell do you do for work?

  • I take it you mean money work.... Go back a few videos.... I built a log cabin in Alaska for someone. ....and got paid for it.

  • How are you planning on illuminating the inside of that thing? Would that take a lot of power?

    also: FAMOUS LAST WORDS! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • crap I asked the same question as antishay

  • Oh... i forgot about that famous last words. Thanks for reminding me that I'm a nut. ha ha.

Uhh... I'm putting windows in the front. ...and I'm nost sure about the night time lighting yet.

  • Yay! It's been so fun watching this all come together :D

Are you going to seal the metal to the rock somehow or just throw up the insulation and call it good?

Once the front is on it will be so dark! How are you going to light the inside? And will it be solar-powered?

  • throw up? Why would I want to throw up on the insulation. haa haa haa.

ok ok, I'm going to seal the metal to the rock. ....with magical tricks.

I'm putting windows on the front. ....and not sure yet about the night time lighting.

  • I can't wait!

  • Not sure if this has been explained... The banana building doesn't look to be waterproof. Is it, or what's your plan to make it waterproof?

  • CLING FIIIILM!

  • yeah i'm not sure of those are holes, or just really shiny bolts.

  • ya, I wish they were just shiny bolts! ha ha.

  • its waterproof. ....except where its missing bolts. I'll get to those later. I might wait 'till spring. ....but other than that its water proof.

  • That shit is BANANAS!

Also, I laughed out loud at "blablaah blablaaah blabl-"

  • Oh, excellent. glad to blah blah blah.... ya, ya know... blah blah.... thanks... blah blah.... thats cool... blah blah blah

  • All you need is a pair of tight jeans and a disco LIGHT!!!!! THEN YOUR DONE!

  • uh oh... I'll never be done!!!

  • Absolutely fantastic looking now.

And i love the magnet idea to hold up the insulation, really neat idea

  • Thanks. :-) Ya, i wanted something that wouldn't pierce the insulation screwing up its effectiveness.

  • Oh... ya. totally safe. I just activated my anti gravitiy generator so I wouldn't fall. No prob. :-)

  • You should make a big wooden frame that the metal goes on to for the front wall.

Make the whole thing slide, or swing open, or something.

You wouldn't want to limit the use of that huge space by putting in a tiny door, would you?

Also, put a ladder-type thing on the back, so you can climb onto the building next to the rock, and put another ladder from the top so you can climb all the way to your house.

    That'd be cool.

  • Ladders already in place. :-P

no wood! it rots. galvanized steel will outlast it by a lot. There's a big garage door about 10' wide, and at least that tall. I think it'll be ok for most things.

  • Just don't make the front opening TOO SMALL , then you wont be able to get your giant robot out. :B

  • Ya, I'm pretty sure I'll have to "shimmy" out the door. ....but it should fit. If I have a problem, I'll just make the entire front wall open. :-P

  • The 'bot's dissassemblable, though.

  • Wouldn't it be awesomier though if it could just crawl out of its "lair" without the need to be dismembered first.

  • Aye, but less practical. =[

  • I do plan for it to walk out without dismantling.

  • YEEEEEES!~~

    One point for me 8D

  • one point? What kinda point?

  • 'tis true. Its currently in about 100 pieces. ha ha. Well... thats counting bolts and stuff... like 10 main pieces.

  • I think you should put up a vid of you assembling and disassembling your bot, just to tease the viewers.

  • har har. Actually, I started a new robot video. ....just a little bit....

  • O_o!!!

    WANTWANTWANTWANT! (^-^ )

  • oh, I shoulda kept my mouth shut. ha ha

  • No! Talk moar! Tell moar!

    Weeee loooove yoooo!

    ... Ok, I'll stop now.

  • well, at least I feel loved now. :-P

  • You didn't before? I need to try harder!

  • Is this going to be a dwelling or just a store? Are you going to cover the matal in any thing? I think if it was covered with earth and turf it would be warmer and blend in beautifully.

  • Yes, I'm planning on burying it. Its a workshop amongst other things. ....but most importantly a workshop..... for giants robots, and things like that. ...but most immediately a giant robot. :-D

  • The building looks great!

I need to get myself a banana building lol

I'l probably use it as an evil layer

It would have a red door

and every time I'd enter I'd probably end up saying "I got to paint that stupid door black!"

  • Evil layer, eh? heh heh. I think my door will have lots of windows. ....but with vines hanging infront to conceal.

  • Awesome

  • You must have popeye forearms after cutting the metal for the back.

  • actually, it wasn't that much cutting.... I've done WAY more before :-P

  • If this isn't what you are already planning, maybe you should use expanding insulation foam on that back wall. Squirt it in the little cracks between the metal and the cliff and it'll fill them in, then set solid and not let in any draughts.

Oh i forgot you exploded all your foam ;)

  • ha ha. Yep... thats what I was thinking. ....although I'll have to apply the foam when its not too cold.

  • WOW, it's looking great, can't wait to see it all done! :)

  • me too!

  • ahh you just made my night man. Cool footage. Although i was thinking.. maybe 30 years from now this will be a museum.. for robots.. which wiped all humans.. the robots love this place though because it is their ancestors cradle of life...OMG

  • ha ha. ya. Maybe they'll let me live as a brain inside a robot. ...since I built the place. :-P

  • You've watched ghost in the shell haven't you?

  • Yes, I have in fact watched Ghost in the Shell. I thought it was alright. Some really good stuff, some kinda boring stuff. Overall pretty good.

  • arnt cliffs generaly caused by erosion..... i would have thought sooner or later a bolder will fall through your building, im just curios y dident you build it a few feet away?

  • Cliffs are sometimes made by errosion.... this one wasn't. ....there are no boulders above in this case. I made it right up against the cliff to save me building another wall, and because the rock is a huge thermal mass that will help regulate the temperature.

  • BTW, we need a Dr. Seuss-type name for that tool you invented that was a screwdriver, two vice grips, a hammer and three magnets all linked together :-)

    A scrammermagnegrip?

  • Oh, i just call it "tools". :-)

  • "Innovative"?

  • You scribe-fit the banana to the cliff!

  • I actually scribble fit it. c'mon, now... use the technical terms. We can handle it.

  • are you talking about a sextent? if so, nope.

  • is that tool you made a saxton? show us the pannels on your roof hehehe
