  • This is when The Talking Heads were actually good - before "Burning Down the House"....

  • @vjreejr That's an excellent song. Problem?

  • @vjreejr Hey, I love that song.

  • I liked this song when it came out, and today I like it even more...

  • Don't waste your money on bottled water.Tap water is good.Unless you still have old galvanized pipes. Then you're being polluted with rust.Spend the money on copper.Sell yourself.Get people to bet you that you won't eat anything they can cough up.Do what you have to do.Or...look for water underground.Just find out first how deep you can dig before it violates some city ordinance. But whatever you do...don't buy bottled water. It's just tap water run through a filter that YOU can buy.Thank You.

  • Thanks David and Talking Heads, glad to hear you again in another lifetime

  • You may ask yourself, How do I manage to get so sweaty?

  • Čovek je čist "Genije"

  • The beginning is part sea water and part microbes

  • The music video for this song is exactly what I expected.

  • Er, thanks for the music history lesson, Prof. I was simply making the point that Talking Heads were a collective, not just David Byrne. It would have been good to see them in the video, but David Byrne, as undeniably talented as he is, is a clearly a malignant narcissist, which is why the rest of the band hate him to this day.

  • @f18l

Seeing as how you already knew all that you could have just watched the video in answer to your own question.

  • @beatlesfan134 stop hiding behind your username. Using a universally likable band in it doesn't by any means make you likeable. David Byrne is a lyrical genius, not to mention a trendsetter in incorporating unconventional rhythms into his songs. And his vocal range is by no means limited. You actually have to know an artist better to insult them. His voice has deep emotion to it in a countless number of songs.

  • Comment removed

  • Apparently, David Byrne had a backing band. Do they make an appearance in this video?

  • @f18l

Did you read the title to this video? And Talking Heads is no "backing band", they were a ground-breaking band formed in the mid-70's and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

  • Please ! tell me who made this vid with David and what are they working on NOW !?!

  • @julpitt

The title of this video will tell you, also Google and Wikipedia.

  • Originator!!!!!!!!!!

  • Vermin Supreme :D

  • TEMON LOCO.....TEMON.

  • Why doesn't youtube have links to 'buy this video' like they do (not here unfortunately) to 'buy this mp3'? And more to the point, why don't the music houses sell the videos? It's rare that the videos themselves are on sale. What can it mean? It's a rare thing to see capitalists sleeping on the job like this.

  • this isnt my car.....its a rental

  • you may be surfing on you tube asking how did I get here!!

  • @pedroromero180 :| gtfo

  • this song has been the same as it ever was

  • LOVE THIS SHIT! SAME AS IT EVER WAS!!!!!!!!!

  • @defragmyhead I talk major shit on people who type in all CAPS. This song made me forget myself!

  • Back in to face to face with my tv on Mtv!

  • songs that make me smile :)

  • ... and you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?" ...

The rallying cry of confused YouTubers everywhere!

  • @FairEllenLochinvar Ha ha... nice one,,, seems like we're all just as lost as each other

  • Story of my life...., soon to live in a shack, hopefully I'll get a beautiful wife soon

  • I'm sorry, but I can't summarise how much I love this song, this video and this band...

  • :55 is how Ive been walking around all day.

  • @live1234561 haha im the exact same. saw it on vintage tv :DD

  • I've been everywhere. I've left every place. Here I have no abiding city.

  • Great song, great video but why oh why did they cut out part of the song?? The album version is only about 40-50 s longer....

  • @spgottawa This was the version for commercial release which was cut to be under four minutes in order to get radio chart play.

  • @kimmois1 Thanks - I figured it was something like that - funny that I have never heard the short version in 30 years - it caught my ears right away...

  • Talking Heads RULL Man My Fav band of all time yeah yeah

  • LOVED THIS!

  • norman bates!

  • I think of Eulogy by tool when I hear this and think of the name talking heads.

  • My theme song, where is my beautiful wife?

  • People who dislike this, just don't get it.

It is a comment on our lives of how we chase material things for years - from cars to fancy houses - and in the end "it's the same as it ever was".

  • @burnpillageplunder Just because someone doesn't like something doesn't mean they don't get it. Not that I don't love this song. Also, it's not just about materials. It's about trying to achieve the ideal life you picture in your mind, which usually includes a lot of material goods, but also a specific job, a spouse perhaps, and finding yourself somewhere down the road, successful or not, and realizing that it doesn't make a difference. Same as it ever was.

  • @thedavetrain That's EXACTLY what it means.

  • @burnpillageplunder Byrne said that it was meant to be taken literally, that it's about how we go through life half-awake and that we end up with all these things and never stop to ask how we got here.

  • What an awesome song - fits today.

  • I don't always trip on acid, but when I do, I watch this video

  • 278 dislikes can be WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And you may ask yourself "Why am I watching this shite?"

  • @lawabider1 and you may ask yourself "why am i abiding the law?"

  • How did I get here ?

  • He is just so fit.

  • @MissPhyscosocial No but the song and video are greta. I love weird arty farty, and this time this isn't sarcasm.

  • ... and you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"...

The confused rallying cry of confused YouTubers everywhere!

  • and 278 people may press the dislike button and say to themselves "MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE

  • 10 "years" :)

  • David Byrne was really 10 ahead of his time. Brilliant rock group.

  • god like :)

  • My God! What have I Done!!

  • letting the days go by letting the water hold me down. I've been doing this foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever

  • @chrissjg OH GOD!! ME TOOOOOOOO!

  • @PippiClaremont People should be more like us

  • @chrissjg In retrospect, uhhhh, no they shouldn't... lol

  • @PippiClaremont they should probably go away under a hole and never come out then.

  • Man i miss them days! When mainstream music had originality and heart, substance. The shit today makes me cry....

  • didn't relize I liked soo many talking head songs

  • Happy Birthday Jerry Harrison (born Jeremiah Griffin Harrison) was born on this date in 1949. {Feb. 21st}

  • Fucking cool.

  • And you may ask yourself "How do 278 people dislike this?"

  • @hArbingeRofDumb cause it sucks?

  • @hArbingeRofDumb More to the point you may ask yourself "How do 278 million people like Rhianna?"

  • @hArbingeRofDumb into the blue again ... all the bieber fans....

  • @hArbingeRofDumb And I would answer. We live in Idiocracy.

  • @hArbingeRofDumb And the answer is...... It sucks.

  • @beatlesfan134 how does t suck? this is a fucking classic man.

  • @minielk454 Limited vocal range, meaningless lyrics, and an overall mediocre band playing.

  • @beatlesfan134 well, that's your opinion. i found alot of meaning in these lyrics.

  • @minielk454 Well you find meaning in these lyrics. I'm gonna go ahead and find meaning in the lyrics of Stairway to heaven if you need me.

  • @hArbingeRofDumb No idea this song is one of my all time fav's

  • They don't know where that highway goes to. My God, what have they done?

  • @hArbingeRofDumb Because the 280 odd dislikes are in bred fuck wits

  • this was considered a high tech video back when dinosaurs watched MTV music videos

  • I am so confused....

  • Da fuck did I just watch?

  • This is one of the greatest songs made, came out when I was in high School. God I miss those days.

  • @David18151 I AGREE I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL 1985 THIS WAS THE BOMB!! I MISS THEM TOO

  • My life's theme song

  • Tremendously funny and enjoyable...danced it many times in the 1980´s.

  • why are there any dislikes?

  • @heavayburtation The dislikes are probably dyslexics: they see the thumbs down and press it thinking "I love this".

  • this is such a weird video...lol :D

  • Wow, I didnt know Stephen Colbert was the lead singer of Talking Heads! lol

  • Comment removed

  • What always amazes me is that people think that David Byrne is a Canadian, but he is actually originally from Dumbarton in Scotland! Always loved this song!

  • How dare you say that David Byrne has no talent.

  • If the answer to life is 42 then what's the question?

  • Great song. Nothing more to say.

Anyone who thinks that modern musicians have no creativity like this post.
