  • where's liu? but anyway, what a voice, what feeling and simply the most heartfelt acting onstage i've yet to see.

  • This is completely incomparable to anything else. Sono inamorato!

  • Mio Povere Franco, you may be gone from this earth but you will always be in our hearts. There is no one to replace you.

    Sinceremente

  • @VivaMariaCallas. It would make stones crying, I agree! For me the best Calaf of all times (and there were many good tenors for this role).

  • El mejor Calaf de siempre!

  • Laui-Volpi's influence on Corelli is more than evident.

    Excellent. Thank you.

  • this is one of the most beautiful things i've ever heard. <3

  • listen this tenor

    /watch?v=6uwAPvcllNA

  • @jrevoredoi - thank you, I haven't heard Alejandro Granda before.

  • Calaf, a la decima....

  • If I were Liu I would certainly still be piangere-ing after this.

  • DIOS....impresionante...bravo..otro civilizado. BE WELL!

  • Best performance for me!!

  • @maxhansendk No one gets even close to this

  • !Que gran tenor!, siempre estará entre mis favoritos.

  • It's simply GORGEOUS! Outstanding! Poignant and beautiful. Music from heaven to one's ears.

  • Whose little heart is not going to weep with such superb singing?

A los 8 ya estaba enamorada de Corelli. Es bueno poder verlo hoy y amarlo nuevamente.

  • Bravo!

  • who produced this video... PLEASE... more info needed... is this from a TV special or an actual opera performance of Corelli's??? grazi!!

  • This is a live performance from the Voice of Firestone TV program, 6/02/63, Firestone Orchestra conducted by Joe Harnell.

  • Absolutely sublime with the right tone and emotion, just chilling..

  • Believe it or not, I actually couldn't stand Corelli during my early days as an opera fan, UNTIL I saw this video of him singing. Now I seem him as the ideal Calaf, and one of the best at several other roles besides.

  • El Insuperable Calaf de la Historia!!!

-GRACIAS!!!*chessoperaspirit* Por Compartir éste bello recuerdo!!!

-BRAVO POR SIEMPRE MAESTRO FRANCO CORELLI!!!

  • Thank you for this wonderful video. Corelli is absolutely the strongest & most elegant tenor -- heroic!

  • Ahhh, so schön aber schade, ich wollte mit Farben sehen...

  • Das gibt es nich in Farbe. Aber ist trotzdem super

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Franco Corelli singing this aria is simply the best.

  • Meraviglioso

  • già

  • The most gorgeous voice !!! and he is so amazingly handsome

  • in mijn beleving de beste versie van deze mooie aria.

    DANK JE FRANCO

  • Pardon the subjectivity but this is my favourite version of this glorious aria; just as beautiful as "Nessun dorma"

  • What more is there to say except ... perfection.

  • FRANCO: Irrepetible! Inolvidable! Insustituíble! Hermoso! Expresivo! Talentoso!

    FRANCO: ETERNO ÚNICO E INSUPERABLE.....

  • bravo...amazing..

  • True justice done to Puccini's Calaf. The GREATEST verismo tenor, no contest.

  • Caro Maestro FRANCO CORELLI:Nel cielo, oggidi,APRILE 8,le stelle, brillano piu fortemente,¡¡¡BRAVO PER SEMPRE MAESTRO FRANCO CORELLI!!!

  • Franco ,beautiful man ,blessed with a beautiful voice how lucky can a man be? I'm sure he had many women at his feet....just for his voice....man oh man...what a man....

  • Homo angelicus.

  • If you want controlled and emotionless there are always operas for that, however this was written by Puccini. Least we forget he was a true maniac and would have love the way Corelli attacked the stage.

  • He is the best Calaf ever!!!... I watched the entire opera and it stun me... It was so great!!!... His voice is unbelieavable... Some might say, he covers to much but that's the original Italian Opera Singing style, Man... Nowadays tenors prefer big bangs except the late Lucianno Pavarotti... Miss you Pav!!!

  • what you mean by "he covers too much"?

  • mmmmm... i don't know how to explain it... it's a bit difficult to explain with words... but some people said that he's voice is soft and lacks of big bangs.. probably that's the best explanation i could give... but for me, Corelli is magnificent!!!!

  • It's a technical thing and difficult to describe, but here at youtube, there's a video in which Pavarotti stands at the piano and gives a side-by-side demo of covered vs uncovered. I'm not permitted to link to it, but try searching with the words Pavarotti+Horne+Sutherland

  • Il miglior calaf mai ascoltato!!!Neanche nella migliore delle ipotesi ,puccini avrebbe potuto immaginarne uno come Corelli.

  • the greatest of his time

  • Together with Del Monaco. I can't really say!

  • brilliant, the best

  • Voce vibrante accorata

    di inconfondibile sensibilità

    il migliore.

    viva PUCCINI e Corelli.

  • bebbit you are on drugs. stop for the sake of your health. Cura is awful. Corelli was great.

  • So this is where you are babbitt.I thought you said you weren't going to post on anymore Corelli videos. This is not the best non piangere Liu but it certainly better than anything Cura could ever do.

  • i think cura is much underrated.dramatically in live performances he is stunning....

  • Cura is not as good as Armiliato.I agree this is far better than anything Cura could do.Cura is good too but even Armiliato can't compare to CALAF!

  • Corelli sounds dandyish in comparison with Cura? God, I needed a good laugh. IMO Cura is a good singer when he is on, but not in Corelli's leauge. I have heard Cura live several times, he was struggling with the higher notes which sounded weird.

  • Wow.

Cura has crummy technique and is a rude, presumptuous fellow besides. If he'd learn to be patient and humble, he might be a great singer. And if he'd learn to be a gentleman, he might be a great artist.

As is, he rarely rises above mediocre and deserves much less.

  • babbitt reminds me of this guy in school who was desparately unpopular. he'd hang around even though everbody hated him. funny, there is always a guy like that around:-)

  • what a mean comment.

  • This guy is like...a MIRACLE! I mean, seriously, my bro told me that when he sang in operah houses, they could here him outside! Like, seriously, how can such a thin guy make so much noise?? Amazing, that's what he is.

  • Cool response, switchfooter--very open. There's a lot to it, a lot more than being heavy or thin, but you sound as though you're willing to learn.

  • Haha. Well thanks=)

  • if i were in a theatre and corelli wetre singing the last thing id want as i got up to leave would be to hear his voice still ringing in my ears outside!haha!

  • Why? Sign of a good singer? Shows you that he is the best? What? I don't understand why anyone would not want that feeling after leaving the performance. But then again it is you we are dealing with! HA!HA!HA!

  • i love cura myself.his song with sarah brightman was immense!

  • HA! HA! You are like the Potts fans who go gaga over nothing! "Oh it was just so good" blah blah blah. You are too funny babbitt and you can't recognize good talent(Corelli)when you see it. You think Cura is better than Corelli? If you answer yes, you are out of your mind!

  • the italians have little to teach us brits!all u gave us was icecream and corelli!

  • The brits need a lesson in many things. Italy also gave the world, Del Monaco, Pizza, Olive Oil, etc.. you know, good foods that you probably don't eat because your too busy having your "tea and crumpets" to enjoy REAL food! HA!HA!HA!HA!

  • less of the brit thing, babbitt is a one off it is not were you are from that counts, common sense goes a long way. i am english, with my dad being french, i do not eat crumpets, its like saying all italians eat spagetti, and pasta all day. each and every country has its own values, and dis values like we have babbit

  • Uh, its a joke! Do you really think I was serious? It was a joke because he was boasting that England gave the world many things while Italy gave nothing. If you actually read the whole post, I said : "Del Monaco, Pasta and Olive Oil." I kind of thought anyone who read it (with the big HAHAHAHA! at the end) would clearly see it was a joke.

  • ok i accept that, but you must remember babbitt is a rare thing and the only people i know like him are locked up.

  • OK, Thanks HAHAHAHAHAHA! That is hilarious!!!!

  • cellmates you mean?

  • i like corelli, he is better than pav. but my favorite is lanza he never had the tec/ abilty of many but his voice, was magic...

  • i still prefer lanza...

  • ok,goosebumps, whatever! I meant that his voice touches me,what did you think.I still think he covers to much but I dont know if you know what that is.Ok,listen to someone who covers perfectly like björling then you may understand what i mean.Corelli is too manufactured!

  • backlunden, please, Corelli is a god !

  • corellis voice is so dramatic and hairraising! but i think that he covers a little to much on certain vowels.little unnatural sometimes

  • What is hairaising? And what's this crap about vowels? Corelli rules!

  • Corelli is indeed imo the best ever. This is not the best recording though. The best Non piangere liu is the RAI footage of Corelli.

  • corelli, undisputed king?i dont know what your smoking fella but can i try some????

  • Why don't you go to another site that lavish over gay singers, like your fellow brits, Elton John & George Michael, leave this space to people who know great opera singers and appreciate Corelli's vast talent. Since you claim that you don't Italians why do you bother listening to our music? Don't you anything better to do in your parents basement? You Jerk off!

  • how rude!i dont like elton john or george michael thank u.

  • u hate gays or just brits or just gay brits or just gay british pop singers or just pop singers?

  • HA!HA!HA!HA!

  • Babbitt you don't need anymore drugs! Your on enough of them as it is!

  • IMO in the world of tenors at the top is Corelli and the there are a few tenors from 2nd to 5th which are decided on a person's preference.

  • I agree, Corelli was simply in another league.

  • he does not excel such as to surpass pavarotti, you can only reach that conclusion if you begin with it.

  • what a small minded statement

  • The greatest Calaf EVER, and the greatest Andrea Chenier as well. How fortunate we are to have so much audio and visual evidence of his greatness.

  • you sir, are absolutely correct. Amazing to see him up close and to see the fear in his eyes. Only the greatest of the greatest high wire artists can comprehend that to do what you do, you have to stand naked. To "stay out of the way" is one of the greatest fears.

  • Simply brilliant.

  • hassen kattei!

  • Wonderful voice, he's one of my favorite tenors. =)

  • Rambo's penis shrank 4 inches in cowering from the sheer drama and virility of this guy.

  • Since your next comment about Corelli's performance is actually quite insightful, I'm at a loss as to why you posted this strange bit. Was it part of a remark to someone else that accidentally got posted here?

  • Yes, the quote was "Rambo's penis shrank 4 inches in fear .." I was making reference to Stallone (now swearing by Human Growth Hormone and his use of same for keeping in shape for his movies). Sorry, it was a little crass, and I did not mean to offend. Corelli's production is, to me, the scariest one to produce as you have to be willing to "do nothing." Can't imagine we will ever hear a better Calaf or Chenier as the technology today takes away the incentive for an artist to pay the price he did

  • Wonderful rendition. Corelli is GREAT!

  • Corelli is a GOD.

  • Don't cry Liu If I smiled at you on that day long ago For that smile, dear girl, listen to me Perhaps your lord will be alone in the world tomorrow Don't leave him. Take him away with you We shall die on the road of exile We shall die! Sweeten the paths of exile for him This alone I do ask of your constant heart I who smile no more
  • Unbelievable singing. What Franco achieved with his voice was beyond human.

  • Why all wonderful opera singers died? I gues I born too late... :(

  • Nessuno ha mai cantato quest'aria come lui. Una dolcezza malinconica ci pervade e la sua voce ci consola.

  • A beautiful man and Great singing actor.

  • Divino! Il più grande Calaf!

  • do you know where i can get the lyrics for this song?

  • He is fabulous, good clear voice. Powerful, the role belongs to him.

  • Another role that belongs to him and him alone. I could listen to this all day. Thank you.

  • *dies of sheer bliss* Grazie, Franco.

  • What a voice! It's loaded with testosterone!

  • Corelli is thrilling as always.

  • None better...great voice, and presance- Catch his 1990 interviews with Stefan Zucker on the Bel Canto Society webcasts-they are long and Zucker is an acquired taste, but he got Corelli to talk tecnique!!!

  • They put Timur away too. :-) Corelli is incomparable.

  • Ti amo corelli ti amo sarò come te ....parola d'onore

  • Madonna che bella voce . . . .

  • To me, the best Calaf. The best in many roles, actually.

  • a great calaf..

  • Great Voice

  • The " legato line " of this great singer is something to treasure. Here is the most lyric, more subdued Corelli showing that he was a great master of his spectacular voice !

  • They always put Liu away when Franco was singing.

  • Why is he on his own?
