LOL, waiting for GT2, but the Dreamcast was the next gen console over PS1. So, Dreamcast was way ahead of Sony at that time. The Dreamcast games were PS1 games in transition to PS2. But Sony had it head on when the PS2 was released!!
If I can recall correctly.. there was a game for the dreamcast running at an incredible 60fps I forget Wich racing game it was though...can anybody help me out on this one???
Thanx man!!! Hey, I always wondered how come dreamcast seems to be the only home console to produce games at 60fps? Aren't these next gen consoles more powerful? Wtf? @DieselDiaz
a great game, but in no way is it a constant 60fps. You can lock it at 30fps by disabling some effects, and at 60fps by removing all other cars, weathers, etc. You can do these through codes. It's just a poor port of the Windows PC version using Windows CE. Still a great game though!
-Tekken 3,Metal Gear Solid 1, Tenchu Stealth Assasins, Eagle 1, Duke nuken time to kll,Dino Crisis 1 there are so many of them, all of them great games
Ps2 and Ps3 games are just great but not as exciting as the very first games...

I think that the DC can show better graphics than it did, but the question his how far it can go.
@AceySucks6606 hehe a lot of my game pads would have been saved from being thrown up the wall if every game over screen praised you like this one does :D
They always were better, just the ps2 devs had more time to squeeze every ounce of power out of the ps2, if the dreamcast was still herem, chances are we would have games looking similar to early 7th gen games.
@sonicgamer2 That's a complete misconception. On paper and in the real world, the PS2 was much more powerful. Having said that I just ordered a Dreamcast with Sega Rally 2 and Fur Fighters. Can't wait.
@fatsgt ..Not really, the only thing ps2 had over the dreamcast was a slightly larger polygon count and a faster processor but, the dreamcast had thing that the ps2 could never do like anti asailing and texture compression. The dreamast uses a powerVR graphics board and no game in its 2 year lifspan ever used its full capabilities. So yes on paper the ps2 seems better but, in actuality its not.
@santiago262 No offence, but that's a typical fanboy response. IF the Dreamcast was around long enough it could do better! No, it couldn't. Shenmue was probably the extent of it. I don't know why people can't accept this and understand that in no way could the Dreamcast's PowerVR2 CLX2 chipset produce anything close to Gran Turismo 4. When developers became used to the PS2 hardware, they were able to produce FSAA. Compression was used to compensate for 1.2GB GD-ROMS, PS2 could use 8.5GB DVD's.
@fatsgt im a dreamcast fan boy and i agree , the ps2 could handle far more polygons at one time on screen not to mention it was clocked slightly higher.
@ExtremeBogom Hell, the Dreamcast's hardware wasn't even cutting-edge in 1999. It was pretty damn good though, but 2 years later would see the release of the Gamecube and Xbox, and those at much better visual capabilities, even over the PS2. Look at games like Far Cry and Conker on the Xbox and you'll see the major leap in graphics.
Even so, the Dreamcast kicked ass. Not gonna deny that.
@thatsistheguy -Perhaps you hould compare only games that were available for Dreamcast when it was still alive, when comparing to other consoles... -It takes 5 full years to use all the power of the games console...
@sonicgamer2 The biggest reason the Dreamcast failed was due to poor timing. Sega advertised that the system was much more powerful than the N64, Playstation or even their own Sega Saturn. This was an obvious fact. However, it was 1999 and the PS2 and Gamecube weren't far from being released. The Dreamcast didn't have the time to evolve and become popular because of the extreme hype surrounding the PS2 and the fact that it and the Gamecube were arriving so soon.
what are you talking about the reason the dreamcast failed was because everyone was getting chipped ps1s & the games were 4 sale everywhere 3 for £10 so people were all stuck on playstation so when the ps 2 came out it was the next step to them plus it had dvd an expensive house hold appliance at the time but built in for only a few more pounds
if the saturn was chipped and there were games available like that then people would of baught them and followed to dreamcast same with r4 ds killing psp
@sonicgamer2 No way was the DC more powerful than the PS2, it was good for sure but it lacked the raw grunt of the PS2. PS2 was a mutli core machine, much like PCs are now. I would love to see the DC do games like God of War, Final Fantasy 12 and all that. Would never happen.
@sonicadx Neither of which are even close to God of War. Both run at sub 30fps with popup and slowdown. Still nice looking games mind but it will not have the power to run such a high spec game as GoW.
@volkte37 If you nix the giant bosses, I think it could, and even better with it's larger textures and full screen anti aliasing on a hardware level... And even in the case of the gigantic bosses (which truly are incredibly), you could just tone down their poly count as was already common practice with PC/Xbox/GC ports to PS2 (although in some cases PS2 could pump out more polys than the GCN).
@DietSoap3 Oh course it could do a version. But FSAA is a myth, it would slow the frame rate to a halt. FSAA is used on hardly any last gen titles, the 640-480 resolution the DC used hid the jaggies well. Also despite nicer textures, it would have to be cut a lot in terms of polys and would not be able to stream the game with no load times, PS2 could move data at a frightening rate. Do a search for last gen games that used Anti Aliasing. Shocking to see how few actually do.
@volkte37 Alot of my DC games run at 30 and many even 60 fps with full screen anti aliasing, so I'm not sure why you say that. And sure, but that applies to any game on any system, it's all relative. But yeah, it would have to load more often no doubt, but I've never seen the big deal w/ a couple loading screens anyways.
@DietSoap3 Your DC games do not run with FSAA, the machine simply outputs almost all of its games at 640-480 which helps to eliminate jaggies. The PS2 ofter renders in 640-224 interlaced to give a 640-448 which is what gives you jaggies. Aliasing is not the issue. There are also other ways to soften an image. Tekken 5 is running at 640-480 with almost no jaggies, plus there is a smoothing option in the menu to eliminate it more. Check it out. The DC renders in the same way.
@volkte37 I don't really know what your talking about tbh, but either way I guess the point is every publication outlet I've read from claim the DC has/had full screen anti aliasing, and either way when I play something like Alien Front Online, it sure as hell looks like it does.
@DietSoap3 Those publications are incorrect then. Not that it matters really, a lot of DC games do look lovely and smooth and the PS2 does often look less smooth. Currently playing Virtua Fighter Evo on PS2 and another game with no jaggies at all. In fact VF4 had loads of jaggies, Sega sorted it though for Evo. It can easily be done on PS2.
Actually you are wrong, the Dreamcast's PowerVR2 CLX2 chipset does indeed support FSAA in hardware, also Dreamcast's port of Omikron: The Nomad Soul utilized 2x supersampling. PS2 could only do FSAA in software, hence why FSAA on PS2 caused severe framerate issues and was not utilized in many games. Games that did utilize FSAA on PS2 usually used the Edge Anti-Aliasing method (also used on most N64 games) because it didn't have as big of a tax on the CPU.
@Chaniyth Not wrong as I never said the DC can't do FSAA. It can like you said as it is included but it still is rarely used. In fact FSAA is not used too often even today with the HD consoles. Go and look at Fifa 11 and Need for Speed to see the shocking amount of jaggies in those games. Higher resolutions on DC games go a long way to hide jaggies. as does a flicker filter. Some games do use it, not many though. Rogue Leader on the GCN used FSAA too. Again not many others did.
All you idiots arguing with the review. This was back when the Dreamcast first came out, this review isn't knew. At the time of this review, this was probably one of the best looking games on the Dreamcast. You people need to chill out about small things. Anyway long live Dreamcast!
Fan boy much? BTW... NO... Fucking... SHIT! PS2 has been an active console for about 7 years... so no shit it has more games you unintelligent ass....

This is what the video game system generations are in my head.
(Sega Saturn) (Playstation 1) (Nintendo 64) = [First CD Generation]

(Gamecube) (Playstation 2) (Xbox) = [First DVD Generation]
If the Dreamcast had DVD support then the Dreamcast would have survived.

To be honest most people say that about most consoles.

DietSoap3 1 year ago

DietSoap3 11 months ago
@DietSoap3 Those publications are incorrect then. Not that it matters really, a lot of DC games do look lovely and smooth and the PS2 does often look less smooth. Currently playing Virtua Fighter Evo on PS2 and another game with no jaggies at all. In fact VF4 had loads of jaggies, Sega sorted it though for Evo. It can easily be done on PS2.

@volkte37
Chaniyth 11 months ago
@Chaniyth Not wrong as I never said the DC can't do FSAA. It can like you said as it is included but it still is rarely used. In fact FSAA is not used too often even today with the HD consoles. Go and look at Fifa 11 and Need for Speed to see the shocking amount of jaggies in those games. Higher resolutions on DC games go a long way to hide jaggies. as does a flicker filter. Some games do use it, not many though. Rogue Leader on the GCN used FSAA too. Again not many others did.

@volkte37 The most a Console will use FSAA is about x1, any more and the framerate would drop too much.

@sonicgamer2 No it wasn't, SEGA said that's 1 of the reason Dreamcast failed agains the PS2. (Xbox was the most powerful consoles)

Sega Rally 2 is a piece of shit, the good one is the first (both arcade and Saturn). The 2007 Sega Rally for Xbox 360 and PS3 is good, too.

Didn't expect that kind of graphics from a 9 year old console.

All you idiots arguing with the review. This was back when the Dreamcast first came out, this review isn't knew. At the time of this review, this was probably one of the best looking games on the Dreamcast. You people need to chill out about small things. Anyway long live Dreamcast!
