I think this is a great live cover... following the original tempo, thing that Cream nor Clapton did again... Maybe you'll need to work a little bit more the vocals, they're OK though
killer! been workin on this for some time, and now i'm really inspired...some guy on line--so i have no way to verify--said EC's version at winterland was all re-dubbed in the studio...after hearing the sloppy version, not surprised. Why would you not play this solo every time--just brilliant, like duane's intro to cross to bear--just can't improve on it--nice work!
dude, nice version! you just nailed it...been working on this for a long time...had to put it to bed...then months later, I got the itch. the only problem w/ the solo, one guy told me on line, so I have no way to verify, is that this solo was just re-dubbed in the studio. I don't know if this is true, but, if I were God--errr, EC, I would play this same solo every damn time I played the tune, cuz it simply can't be improved on--the solo is simply brilliant! nice work!!!
my big challenge is to play decent rhythm under the vocals---tough to do, and nail it w/ a real band...never liked rhythm section of cream--too free-form for me (EC thought the same) which is why he tossed the "rock star/EC is god" image. But still, I can't even listen to him anymore...he's just so lame, and I hate his compressed tone...it's OK, since I always have the archives to get my kicks...BTW, did you also think the reunion tour sucked? Long live "66-"68--keep rockin! loved step'n out
Yes I did it was EC with a trio did not have all the great improv like 60's Cream
Rhythm is very important I am sure your singer is very appreciative. The trick is to keep it steady use a metronome if you have one and try to play exact timing with a backing track so you can hear the rhythm clearly
I agree, that it is good to improvise creams songs with some own notes, riffs and lines, accept for - Crossroads. The winterland solo is so "godlike" - its like a composition, that one should learn note for note...
Thanks for the kind words...but alas the cream trib has morphed into a clapton tribute because no one was interested in listening to sweet wine and swlabr or nsu
lol sorry, im just sick of the winterland version. Eric rarley played the same solo twice.
I think the best way to imitate cream is to improvise as much as they did. For example, Spoonful/stepping is difficult to cover note for note, it is only interesting because of its heavy improvisation.
But if you like doing covers note for note, it's perfectly fine.
Oh! You are taller than Clapton...You know the Epi you were talking about? There's this guy who makes minature "Fool" guitars, pretty cool paper weight, I bought one, nineteen bucks. Keep on playing...We need Spoonful now!
Best Cream cover band I've seen on here. You almost look like Clapton accept you'd probably have to lose a little weight to look like him. What kind of Marshall are you playing? where was this filmed? where do you guys play? are you in the States? Thanks post more please.
Thanks
my vox has improved ;)

What do you think of EC was here? Ramblin is my favorite. I love playing that live at 10--just crank that opening lick!

Thanks for those kind words
Redubbed?
I have never heard that before
It would be a sloppy job because in second solo EC comes in too early
I beleive he has always had remorse over that and could comfortably say solo was live...and yes it was brilliant.

All the different versions I have heard of crossroads cream boots nothing has ever come close to the lyrical quality of that solo
The big thing for me is the placement of the notes against the groove. This is what INMHO makes it very hard to nail.
Good luck to you and if it helps I give a lesson on the intro of Winterland version of crossroads
Thanks

Very nice job. It took me two months to learn that song but I still can't play it like that! Very nice treatment.

the solo and tone were impressive.
nice playing all of you...
great guitar work.
eric would be blown away at the time you must have spent on the solo...

The solo was almost note for note the groove was there I am curious what in your opinion was it lacking just to make it "okay"
thanks

I love the winterland version to me that is one of his best solo's it has a begining a climax and an end.
I completely agree with you about EC never playing same solo twice and I am the same way
but to me that solo is what got me to play guitar and as an homage to him I always strive to play it note for note
Thanks for the reply

Since you mention heavy improv check out our version of Stepping Out I just posted. Maybe one part like record rest is all improvised

Dude, im 150 pounds 6' cant loose any more weight LOL
I am using a 30 watt marshall half stack cant remember the name but it is a great amp for stage if you dont want to blow your eardrums out.
I am using a epi sg which I will be getting painted to look like the fool SG/LP
It was filmed at a concert in florida where we do our shows.
I am working on posting some more from this show soon
