Don't really know if it's a bit far-fetched, but; "What can I do, What Can-I-Be (Cannabis?)" - when one takes the rest of the facts in consideration...
Many people don't know that Paul wrote this song for the Supremes, but, Berry Gordy rejected it, as he had everything-writing, musicians, etc.-in house...
All these CD mixes absolutely SUCK compared to what was originally released on vinyl, and played in the U.S. Tambourine WAAAAAAAY out in front. Ringo's drums muted like he's a mile away. This is so F****** annoying! Way to ruin a great song.
You guys are ridiculous, some of you think everything is about pot..
0:36 "you didnt run you didnt lie you know i just wanted to hold you"
Come on, you really think thats about pot and not a girl? Youve really lost it if you honestly think this song is about drugs. Im not an anti pot fanatic or anything (I smoke it once in a while actually) but you guys are missing the true meaning when you interperet everything to be about marijuana.
@allstar00442288 technically pot doesnt lie or run and it can be held.the lyrics could very well be "refer"ing to pot.so this mystery remains unsolved
@szammi47 I looked it up actually. On wikipedia it says the song was about pot, but the specific section that said that was written really unprofessionally. I checked the link that was cited in that section and it led to nowhere, the link actually just redirects you back to the same page yore on. The person that wrote that completely made it up, and if it actually was about pot there should have been a legitimate source. You can believe it about pot if you want but its fairly obvious its not.
@allstar00442288 Mary Jane is a girl :) head on over to "Mary Jane" by Rick James for other examples. They use personification to bring the inanimate object alive, and adds a new layer to the relationship between a person and a plant. It can be interpreted just as a girl, but I believe Paul had ganja on his mind when writing this.
"Got To Get You Into My Life was one I wrote when I had first been introduced to pot. I'd been a rather straight working-class lad but when we started to get into pot it seemed to me to be quite uplifting... I didn't have a hard time with it and to me it was mind-expanding, literally mind-expanding.
So Got To Get You Into My Life is really a song about that, it's not to a person, it's actually about pot."
@H3r3Com3sTh3Sun Fanatic for pot much? You've been fooled by Paul McCartney. I mean, even if he said that (and I don't know that he did) that seems typical of the kind of thing he'd make up off the cuff (to make interviews more amusing, perhaps especially for himself). (There are many brilliant artists who do this - guys in Pink Floyd and Steely Dan, for instance, Imagine how boring giving tens of similar interviews a day would be otherwise - for a creative mind.)
I dont know if the song is about dope specifically. Maybe the initial thought, maybe the idea was what inspired it but I dont know if the lyrics are all about smoking week.
Can it not just be a top song? I obviously respect your opinion and all that but stop talking crap, its just a darn fine song. Happy birthday to the wife....
No va de Marihuana !Que manía¡ Claramente va de una mujer. Una pasada de Paul, aunque no creo que sea el mejor tema de Revolover. Los beatles , lo hicieron todo. Por eso hoy hay tanta basura musical, ya está todo inventado.

I never noticed until now; the tremolo guitar that begins at 1:49 accidentally bleeds into the mix at 1:44.

Thought this was a love song.....Paul McCartney fooled me when I found out what the real meaning of the song was lol. Good Job Paul, good job xD
Love how The Beatles make you think the song means one thing when it means something else entirely different. Love those boys! :)
