  • Give my dog that many treats and he'll poop his wits out

  • @cloudcally They are actually not treats that I use in training, but rather DOG FOOD. :) My dogs poop the same as normal dogs. :) They get less food in a bowl than your dog probably does because they earn most of it in training. :)

  • Wow, great video. I especially liked how well the calming signal worked. My second dog is very reactive, and videos like yours are really appreciated.

I would type more, but he finally quit pacing the room, and laid down at my feet. Time for me to pop him a cookie.

  • @we3nmke That is awesome that your pup finally stopped pacing and that you gave him a cookie for calming down! I love it! I am so happy that my videos are helpful! I have been working with Bandit for about a year on his reactivity and have not had any episodes in at least 6 months. However, I keep working with him as I NEVER want him to back slide. :) Have a Merry Christmas!

  • @we3nmke I hadn't caught the calming signal until I read your post and rewatched the video...Thanks for pointing that out! Very educational from all!!

  • This is one of the best videos I've seen on clicker training and behavior problems. I love watching a trainer who obviously knows what they are doing. By the way, nice use of calming signals throughout the entire process.

  • @clickertrainer22 Thank you so much! Your comment really means a lot to me!

  • Love the video-This has been a huge thing for us...although we worked through a plan like this and the dogs now do wonderfully when I walk the course, or when they are in the car.....UNLESS...I am running or working with one of the other dogs, YIKES, Breeze has rubbed her nose on the crate until it is bleeding, they really can get over the top and VERY loud. I think I just need to get a partner to help with training while I am running, does training ever end????LOL

  • @bordergirlsmom A partner would help or maybe my next video on the subject will help. I am almost finished with it. Hang in there! I know how it is with these high drive want to work BC's. Nope, I do not think training ever ends, but nor do we really want it to end.... RIGHT??? I just love it!

  • very nice. i was actually just about to ask you for advice on something similar to this...

Elle has a Very strong heerding drive, and her fav thing to herd is Lilo, specially when we are playing frisbee or just working on our tricks like, 8, thro the legs, jumping over my legs, into my arms, and going circles around me... i have to keep her in the yark cuase she runs and bites lilo, distracting and frustrating her, and when shes in the yard alls she does is scream, whine, and bark.... and advice

  • I know what you mean about how they keep challenging us. My 2 aussies do that, as well! Keeps us ever learning and stretching. The hardest part for me, tho', has been finding ideas/people to help me come up with solutions/challenges. Until I found you and a few others on YouTube. That's why what you do is so important!

  • @azmauigirl Thank you! I am happy to help! You all can thank my BC for coming up with all these issues. lol! He is really a good boy, but sometimes has to think up something new to keep me on my toes! :) Trust me, sometimes I have to think a few days on how to work on a problem with either my dog or a clients dog. Every dog responds different, which makes us trainers have to have many ways to train a behavior. Take care!

  • love the new screen layout by the way, you will have to see if you can find some dog type ones =)))

  • @asjabluedog imovie only has a few themes. I wish they had one with dogs. That would be really cool!

  • my girl Asja is an Australian Blue Cattle dog purebred and I have had her from the day she was born as her mother is my brother's dog. As you know they are very protective but she really sees me as her mum so she is really over the top when it comes to protecting me and the car. She is like a baby with me but barks and snaps at anyone who comes anywhere near me, the only place I can let her off the lead around other people and dogs is at the dog beach, can you help us???? PLEASE!!!!

  • @asjabluedog Hi, I sent you a long message on what you can do to help your pup! I hope that it helps! It is a hard long road, but just stick with it and hang in there!

  • @pamelamarxsen um I have the same problem with my dog ...she is very overprotective of me when it comes to other dogs. She plays with her doggie friends as long as it's far away from me,but as soon as a dog gets near me(even if she knows it ) she starts being very aggressive toward the other dog. I don't know how to deal with it, treats just don't seem to help, neither do toys as a reward, they just make matters worse :( people tell me I should punish her for it(?)Please give me some advice

  • Great conditioning technique!

  • @puggychu Thanks!

  • Great work Pam..typical collies so quick thinking, yet so sensitive, you always have to be on the lookout for them becoming obsessive about something and tackle it straight away. Collies keep you on your toes...lol!

  • @MultiAnimalcrackers Thanks Kath, YEP those collies do us on our toes! I always have to be one step ahead of him. They are too smart! Love that about them! They can learn some bad habit or become "obsessive" even after doing it one time. ARG! So, the key is to tip it RIGHT away! Thanks! Pam

  • Another great job!

  • Nice work as usual Pam. Q does not like to be 'left out' of the action either. So smart, they know there's good stuff happening!

  • @tehrenberg Well, you can start working on it now with Q. It is weird that Bandit just keeps thinking up things for me to work with him on. Gotta love BC's! Why do I want another one??? hehe! Why can't I just want a Lab? Hehe!

  • @pamelamarxsen Great thing about Q is he learns real fast. I didn't use treats to solve this issue because they caused too much excitement and anticipation, so I used praise, and voila! Having two BC's just adds to the fun, where one isn't giving you an issue to solve, the other is! Perfect solution for a problem solver. . . I think I need a few more! hehe.

  • @tehrenberg Great idea! I love to use praise and calm massage as well! I must like solving problems as well, but never realized it until I got Bandit. hehe! I think I need a few more too! LOL!!!

  • Great tips both in the video and in your written description. So helpful for those of us whose dogs do bark. Great help also to see how you have them set up in your car. Thanks again for all that you do to help others!

  • @azmauigirl Thank you so much for your nice comment! I hope to help my dog through his border collie issues and help others along our journey. It is weird that some days my BC Bandit is just perfect and other days he is totally out of his mind. Either way, I LOVE HIM!

  • Excellent video Pam:)! I like how you used systematic desensitization to set Bandit up for ultimate success:)! Great use of calming signals too.

The crate coverings look really neat. Where did you get them?

  • @hunkymonkeykaine Thanks Ashley!

I got the covers from I think "care - a - lot pet supplies" on line.

  • This is gold !!!!!

I especially loved the calming signals.

    Masterfull !!!!

A must see for pet parents at the end of their tether !!!!!

  • @Adipatus Thank you! Your nice comments really mean a lot. Well, I hope that it will help many pet parents that are at the end of their tether. hehe! I know the feeling sometimes!

    Pam

  • Just loved the video!

Just of out curiosity, what type of vehicle do you drive and what size and what type of crates do you have? We need a new vehicle soon and I told the hubby that we need to get something that can accomodate 2 doggie crates for our border collie and border collie/german shepherd mix. Right now they ride loose in the backseat (So bad; I know.) and I really want them riding in crates for their safety.

  • @lizziebelle14 I have the new Jeep Liberty and the crates are the best! They are called midwest side by side crates and both my dogs fit comfortably in them. Isabelle is 59 pounds and Bandit is 37 pounds. I also like the Jeep Commander and think that I should have gotten that instead, but you could look at them both. The liberty is smaller than the commander. Take care!

  • Stay positive Pam I love this.

  • @finnbjerke Thanks! It really is hard work but it will be so worth every second spent!

  • "A robotic perfect dog"... SO true. I see so many people who offer their dogs only one option and that's: You do what I want you to.

    I love your videos!

  • @Juliexo06 I see that too and it is so sad! I love a thinking dog! A dog that makes choices even if they are wrong choices sometimes, at least they are thinking and using their brains!

  • Great video! Bandit is such a good dog.

  • @NanaBorderCollie Well, he is learning to be a good dog. hehe! He is too smart for my own good sometimes! He trains me most of the time. hehe!

  • Good Job, Bandit! Keep it up!

  • That was super cool!!! Well done Pam! He really LOOKED calm too! Thats amazing. Good Boy Bandit! Cant wait to see him this afternoon!

  • @kikopup Thanks Emily, He is really learning to be calm. I am so proud of my bubba love! We are looking forward to see you and Splashers too!

  • 4:10 looks sooo funny xD

  • @Carinoschatziii I know, because I am looking under the door to make sure he is still being clam. Thanks, for the comment! hehe!
