  • while playing the mandolin, use a small jazz pick and hold the pick tight but pluck the string loose, once you get that and learn the scales for it, then learn how to do a tremolo, i play the Italian style of mandolin, but i use the same one and its pretty good

  • Hey, I got the same one as you LOL!

  • i got one just like that on amazon for 40 buck

  • im looking at bying this is it a good by

  • its outa tune

  • thnks dude

  • i know its hard playing guitar i have many of them so i decided to play bass guitar know i started mandolin and my aunts cristmas presents gonna be a ukelele because she wants one also my mandolin was 180 bucks but it was an epiphone

  • One thing to try and remember is that strumming a mandolin up and down is a guitar method that should be avoided on the mandolin.

  • a mandolin is technically a part of the guitar family:P

and strumming on it sounds amazing btw

  • actually the mandolin is part of the lute family. so there are very different techniques on each instrument.

  • @migasaguiar yeah and so is guitar, same family. fail

  • its all relative to the person who plays, diffrent styles require different picking techniques

  • One thing to try and remember making music is "anything goes". Don't EVER say that you shouldn't play an instrument in a certain way. Music has no limits, instruments have no limits.

  • i have a similar story to you, i got my mandolin about 4 days ago, and have learned the same 3 chords as you on this vid! difference is i started playing 5 string banjo not the Uke. i noticed you posted this vid nearly a year ago, you should be getting pretty good on your mandolin now! keep on strumming!

  • Geil !!!

keep it up . good Job

  • keep it up...thinking maybe its posible to tune it like a uku gg cc ee aa? what do you think? kind regards.

  • tune it to whatever you want! they're called "alternate tunings" you will have to consider string tension as to whether you tune up or down, i.e. trying to tune a string up four notes to get to that c meaning it wouldmost likely snap...

may even have to buy thinner strings

but there is nothing foreign about changing tunings people do it all the time especially on guitar etc.

  • mete la cabeza al guater

  • Hey there,

I think I'm ordering the exact same mandolin (Rogue RM-100A?). How do you like it? How's the tone?

I am a guitarist (acoustic, electric, and classical), and like you I want to diversify.

    Thank you and happy strumming!

  • I bought my first mandolin today! I'm a guitarist actually but i really thought mandolin might sound good with some of my songs. I couldn't put it down and i'm meant to be writing an essay as i write this.... keep it up!

  • the weird thing about mandolin is with a twelve string guitar most of the strings are tuned different but the mandolin there the same so they sound completely different from a ukulele

I used to think the sound the same but they dont they do NOT

u did ok for your fiest time

  • the strings are tuned to the same notes on a 12 string it's just on a twelve string one is usually (except the b and e) are an octave higher. so it is (thickest to thinnest)

  • Well guess mines out of tune

  • Did you buy all your instruments in China?

    How's the quality and price?

  • HI michalo2, yes, in fact every instrument I currently own and play (with the exception of my Lanikai uke) was bought in China. So far I have been impressed with the overall quality based on the low pricing. My favorite uke at the moment is definitely my "Palomar" brand uke I bought here for 20 bucks.... Without a doubt a great little concert uke!

  • I have mandolins and play them a little, but I don't really feel comfortable (don't like the feel) of the double strings - it's the same with my 12 string. How do you feel about it?

As a fist and foremost bassist I can heartily recommend going for acoustic bass, but it is not really a self accompanying instrument. I tell people that my acoustic bass is a bass ukulele, not a bass guitar. Well it has four string not six, right? Four strings good!

  • Thanks buddy! I did it! I went out today and bought the acoustic/electric bass.... And man oh man, LOVIN it!!! Already kicking out some floyd and wicked ass original stuff! The mandolin I really love the sound of, but the neck is even more narrow than a uke, so a little challenging... I like em all though.... However this new bass is going to be getting a heap of attention for awhile.... New vid coming.... Tomorrow!

  • @casetone2514 There actually are bass ukuleles... look it up

  • Sweet!treat yourself right!

  • Damn.... I gotta good wife. She loves the mandolin and now has convinced me to go pick up the acoustic bass tomorrow.... So with that, the mandolin and theremin I have 3 new instruments to learn..... What a lucky guy! Now to deal with the university and full time job..... Any ridiculously rich people out there willing to donate to my "Midlife going to university/becoming a musician" fund out there???

  • I'll buy some extra lottery tickets.

  • knew I could count on you buddy!

  • good job on the mandolin, I've become interested myself, I love the sound. I am doing research to find the style and model that best fits my taste.

Congrats! and I'm looking forward to hearing how you feel about learning to play
