Jacob Lusk could not do this song justice. He was too into himself and his talent so when he sings he is all around the note without ever hitting it. I miss singers like Sinatra who just sang the song, hit the notes and sold it by just feeling it and believing it. Miss you today too Luther!!
This is how I was use to seeing Luther, when he lost all the weight it was something to get use to. But good looking either way! Oh & the beautiful soul he had, just oozed out of him in everything he did! Gone too soon, R.I.H. Luther!
If I was ever stranded on a deserted island and could only have 3 things with me, I would pick: 1) a ton of food, 2) a beautiful woman, and 3) A CD player loaded with all Luther songs!!!
Go to the little speaker (Volume thing) > Right click > Playback devices > Pick your headphones or speakers > Enhancments > Pitch shift > Set it to +4 > The song sound soo good.
Because of listening to Jacob Lusk on American Idol I decided to come here and re-live Luther's song. OMG Luther Vandross could sing. Gosh I wish he was still alive. But RIP Luther. Your music lives on in people like us who will never stop listening to it and in people like Jacob Lusk who can SING and will make it live on. Love you both.
We are so so fortunate and blessed to hear this gift from God bestowed upon us. Luther is among just a handful of elite voices in a lifetime. May it be random or fate, I am truly grateful for my sense of sound.
This is just soooooo very beautiful, and it makes you want to have someone especially when you're by your self. This is one of his most fabulous hits!! The man was just born to sing sing and then sing some more.
Songwriters of that era were required to read and write music. That way its easier to expand on an idea for an entire song. Notice he isn't screaming . Most singers replace proper diction and masterful song interpretation with loudness and showing off vocal volume not finesse. Check out Sarah Vaghns version brook benton etc. See how each did it in their own way.
This song was written in 1964. By written I mean notated for instruments and vocals. It may even be mathematically perfect on paper. The other emphasis was on vocal interpretation and delivery. Thats why this song was covered mad times. Stevie wonder covered it with a harmonica. I think today a lot of producers over produce songs and fill it up with synthesizers.
@mzidesha69 Absolutely!!! This video is prime Luther. He could just stand flat foot........no hoochie dancers.......no background singers......just stand there with a mic and hypnotize an entire audience with just his voice!!!! That kind of talent doesn't exist today.
@Kapernakus07 ok. I agree with you. But the real R&B heavyweights of Music in the last 60 years go like this: Otis Redding, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, R.Kelly and Boyz II Men. What do you think?
@1truthfulman, that's quite a list and nobody could disagree with that. To be honest I say those are my top 3 but they re all great. Although what about ray Charles?, I'm not sure if he's r & b tho.
addendum.. Luther touched a cat with his music. I mean male, female.. he let u, no, made u feel what he was singing with his beautiful expression of whatever song or lyric. I had been moved to tears in 1981 by the original rendition of a house is not a home. Moved to tears again, with "Dance with my father". Nothin wrong or out of order with my manhood or sexuality, Allah as my witness. But the brother "moved" me like that.. tears tryin to come, comin down now, listening to this video.
I ask myself.. then ask Allah, why did this brother have to leave so soon? Loved this cat. Beautiful beautiful brother that touched me and so many others with the gift God had blessed him with. Played him so much, even from the beginning in '81 that his music made him like "family" in our house. Miss u dude. love u .. Allah keep u
I've been a fan of Luther since the early 80's. What a loss his passing was. I was watching Glee. Chris Colfer did a good version of this song. It fit the storyline very well. When I heard it I got on the net right away and searched "A Chair is something or other..." found Luther... Yeah .. What a gem ... This song was written by Hal David-Burt Bacharach in 1964. It was the title track for a movie of the same name A House Is Not A Home, and sung by Brook Benton. - Still miss you Luther !
this reminds me of my dad so much :).....he always listens to it and tells me that i need to learn how to sing like this and he believes that i can with sum practice :) <3....i love me dad and this is such a beautiful song! he makes it look so easy! he is a beautiful man with a great talent :)
this is a much older and experienced luther than when he sang this for Dianne at the NAACP Awards, shortened the song by 3 minutes too. Still amazing!
Ya yc we all miss him so deeply,We will meet up again when we go to the stars above and are craddled by our father ,And we will hear luther singing from the land above all this hate, mean souls that walk this land down here. And we all will feel the lords love as he gives us the endless gift of LOVE rip luther our dear friend,
this is why he's my favorite male singer of all time... at 5:55 he literally makes a lady orgasm... no joke look at the middle aged white woman... that's how good luther was... and big luther was better than skinny luther hands down...
hi its me watchin luther again missin my love and just wishing he was here to hold me tight. pray for us that we will get back together please ive spent another day crying and missing him so much x
its true once your lover has gone your home just becomes a house an empty chair a cold side of the bed that missing feeling and knowing its all over but thinkin what it coulda been
Dont you think he looked alot better heaver,Then when he lost all the weight, but i understand he had to do this for his health ,Dam and we all still lost him from,Well Dod did give him to us to touch our hearts,Im a white guy and i must say he is the best love song singer that i ever heard,He shows that people need to put that race shit out,AND BRING LOVE TO ALL RACES AS I LOVE ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE,GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU , LETS ALL BEAT THIS HATE THAT SOME BRING TO THIS WORLD
I thought his image was better when he was Big but like i said the Late 80s and 90s were the best eras when their wasnt much technology as this era which sux
This man makes me feel so much love in my heart,Its just crazy how he brings out so much love in people,GOD bless this man rip luther we all love you,
Wow! That first note did it for me! My God I wish he was still alive. But there's another singer who is rising into the R&B Scene with the mix of Barry and Luther he's coming soon to the scene the videos will be posted in youtube.
i type his name on youtube every day to get a new live version because he is my favorite artist! where was it recorded and when? thanx so so so much for posting this vid!
