This has made a huge difference for me since I watched this video about a month ago. Thank you, Gretchen, for sharing this simple strategy that is cleaning up my life!
What a great strategy. You turn that "wasted" time into productive time, and also realize how little time it takes to do those kinds of tasks. I'm going to copy that!
I do stuff when my coffee heats in a microwave for 1.45 minutes, and its amazing how much you can do. I can refill the washer, wash a sinkful of cups, clear the kitchen counters, sweep the floor, etc. Not all of these things at once, but I've been stunned at how much I can do within that amount of time.
I really love that rule. I have to say I've just eaten and left the wrapper on my desk but as you was saying about the 1 minute rule I just reached over and put it in the bin (though it did make me feel lazy as the bin was only 3 or 4 foot behind me i could have done that in the first place =-$) o well at least i did the one mintue rule. Anyway thanks for the motivation =-)
While I don't know of Gretchen overarching philosophy, her "real life," tips here are backed by disturbing science: The reason so many people are weighted down with clutter is a. Depression - clinical or situational, and b. 'Damaged' attention span.
Excellent advice, Gretchen, as always!! I have been following this rule since reading your book, and it really makes a difference in clutter and overall calm in the home!
I'm so happy to hear that it worked well for you. Terrific!
