On Playstation3 (PS3): The game is great, the graphics sux. Textures popping just as in the video. Also have totally bad not anti-aliased, the worst shadows ever (pixelated like Atari 2600), and very very bad textures when seeing thing near.

The main reason RAGE has textural issues is that the idiot/geniuses at iD decided that one( that's right, ONE) mega-texture file for the entire game would be better than multiple smaller files because, and I'm paraphrasing here, "We wanted every object to have a distinct look" Really? THEN WHY ARE THERE MULTIPLE OBJECTS THAT LOOK THE SAME? Like the tool boxes in the Wasted garage? Other than that, and the shortness, great game.

@DefectedSalvations I own an Xbox and PS3 and I'm coming up for 21. My parents buy me nothing (I wont even let them, I hate feeling like I owe people money and prefer to pay my own way).
The reasons for me buying consoles over a PC are too many to list. "Convenience" covers most of them though. They're easy to set up, and all you need to do to play a game on them is put the disc in. You don't have that "Will it, wont it run" cloud over your head every time you buy a game.

At your home screen go to Ati Catalyst Control Center, go to 3D, All settings, and disable " Catalyst A.I. " and then click apply and start the game ;)

@jdpoel I agree. I've never been able to play ANY ID games at full rez before (always had to dial back some things) but I just bought a new Gateway FX with 16 gig ram and a GTX 560 Ti card and I get no Popping at all. The game runs awesome...at settings I cant believe I'm using for once.

I had this too on my sli'd 460's I grabbed the betas drivers, cleaned out the old ones, installed, did a reset ,even tho it's not needed and I am running smooth with 3 screens not a single issue. I did set the global setting in Nvidia Control panel to single performance monitor that seemed to clear up all my issues. But alas the games is at best mediocre not very open world as I was hoping it to be. Save you $'s if you haven't bought it not worth $60 IMO wait for it to go on sale.
I have fixed mine , go to your steam folder and go to rage and then the base folder and make a file call rageconfig.cfg and save it there and then inside the file copy and paste this:

and then just load up rage and it is all fixed, and also that unlocks the high resolution pack :) hope that helps
Ok ONE MORE IMPORTANT thing!!!! In rageconfig.cfg file set "seta vt_maxPPF 16" ... it helped me alot with my 4 core Athlon X4 CPU. DO NOT set all 4 cores with value 64 even when you got 4 cores (!!!). The texture graphics arent that cool but i Think ID made a great game.

@galetteosucresama Pal, at first glance this has made a huge difference for me with the flicker and artifacts. I dont know if it helps with texture pop in because i still have the config file, but this certainly helped.
@galetteosucresama I can report on my 5870 that whilst it has reduced artifacting on character models, it's minor at best. They still flicker and artifact like crazy. Texture popup is unchanged and now there's a strange 25%-of-the-screen white flickering polygon distortion on and off that I'd not seen before.

My PC is: I7 3.1, GTX 580 4GBVRam, 12GB Ram 2k clock. and this game has loads of issues for me. I reckon the development engine SUCKS, hope steam will give money back for this game with so many textures issues and erros.

Diablo 3 is not going to be on consoles, i think (going to check that... later). And Crysis 2 was also ported to consoles not the other way around they just had to downgrade the graphics for consoles, and later (what, 2 weeks after the release.) they patched the game and gave us dx11 features.
And consoles are the main reason games are not advancing fast.

lol when i first started playing the game i thought it was some sort of new way the game engine worked... i gave it 2 minutes then I was like "fuck this shit" reminded me too much of poorly made games using the Unreal Engine. Another sad day for gaming.

Considering how slow the game is running, it's more likely it's the comp's fault. Other videos also have similar issues, but nowhere near as bad. Get a better computer, or go get the console versions (if that's actually an option).

@KnaveSkye I don't know, I have not seen any other videos with it this bad. All other videos had minor issues that are only noticeable when you deliberately try to recreate the effect, and even then, it's minor that's completely unnoticeable during actual gameplay (although considering I've always been used to playing on lower end, budget PCs, my standards might be lower than normal).
@gameragodzilla It's not his computer dude. It's the game's engine and how it's configured out of the box. Fraps doesnt like Rage very much and causes more slowdown in the video. I don't have the best computer in the world, it's a medium gaming rig at best. My specs are Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR2 @ 667MHz, Geforce GTX 470 w/ 1280MB DDR5, Vista Home Premium x64 & 285.38 beta drivers. My game ran like this out of the box. With proper config editing, I've got it running 60fps with no pop-in

@andyp315 Well, I didn't really have that many problems. Probably could be the problem of the graphics cards. whatever. All I can say is that the texture pop-ins are not as bad as the video shows they are.
@gameragodzilla With various .cfg file adjustments and steam launch modifiers, I got the texture popping to be much more reasonable, and you can see in the video response I added that the problems didnt stop there.
@KnaveSkye There's clearly something wrong with the computer. My game does NOT suffer from this, and I've seen gameplay videos where many others do not. Don't bitch on a game when it's not the game's fault for technical issues. I played with no problem. I also seen others with no problem. There's something wrong with your graphics card, I'm guessing. I don't know. I'm not a hardcore PC gamer (hence why I don't have a very high-end PC in the first place), and even I don't have those problems
@gameragodzilla My comp had similar problems - look at the specs on my channel. It is because it is a crappy console port with 100,000,000 bugs. It is as if they didnt even test it before release.
@AMagicWizard I haven't had problems. Many others haven't had problems. The reviews seem to be great except for a bunch of trolls bitching about this issue over and over again despite me and many others not having much issue. Megatexture allows for extremely large, unrepeating environments. If every texture was 100% rendered at all times, it will take up an extremely large amount of space. It's already spanning 3 discs on the Xbox 360, and that's not running at highest resolution.
The only texture clipping normally experienced by people is some texture loading at the edge of the screen if you spin the camera extremely fast. There is no way you'll notice the problem during actual gameplay. If your game is as bad as the video is showing, then something's wrong with the computer, not the game. There are plenty of videos with Rage working perfectly, so do some research and learn what you're saying before you start spouting crap.
@gameragodzilla Im glad you are enjoying your experience with the game, but Im sure my crappy 40 second video would not have over 70,000 views if this was just a issue with my computer.
@KnaveSkye I'm watching it, and I have no problems. It seems like your video is simply the problem at its worst, and people tend to notice and watch when things either go spectacularly right or (in your case) spectacularly wrong. Still, though, id is known to make quality products. I'm sure there's going to be a true patch released sometime soon to give people like you the experience people like me is enjoying.

@KnaveSkye I have seen that, too, and I haven't had that problem, either. Have a friend who loves this game, and he's not having problems either. Still, I remember reading an article showing that Carmack knew the PC version wouldn't be operating at 100% because it's going to be released along with consoles that obviously have less processing power due to be 7 year old machines. He talked about some "super texture" pack coming out, so stay tuned.
i got the game today, taking it back tonight to the store. major let down, peace of crap! Think about it. When would someone buy a new LCD TV for example, and when they get it home smoke comes out the back of it. Yet should you work on it yourself for 2 days trying to fix it, or is it considered a broken product? Yeah you get my drift eh! Rage PC game "is" a broken product! Take it back to the shop and get your money back and also if you brought it off steam, demand the cash back or sue!
2) Go to your main drive (usually C:) Users>YOURNAME>AppData>Local. Create folder "id software", inside that folder make a "rage" folder. Should look like this "C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\id software\rage". This creates a cache file on next run (check after).

How can any of you hate on this game and complain about it when your running a 5750 which is a budget card! If your a gamer save up for a better graphics card or stick to older games. I realize the recommended specs say you can run it but and in which case you are, when in the history of pc gaming has the system requirements ever meant that you could play it full bore?
@sluggripper Im not sure how much you know about this game, but this is the lowest I can set it at native resolution. This game has exactly 4 configurable graphic options. Gama, Resolution, Fullscreen and Antialiasing. Its designed to "detect and adjust to maintain 60 FPS" or some BS, so this is likely not "Full Bore"
I am having the same problem, I tried updating my drivers and it said they are up to date, I only had my computer for a month and i am running Radeon HD 6700 series. Its a good game but hope they come out with a fix for this game

I had this too on my sli'd 460's I grabbed the betas drivers, cleaned out the old ones, installed, did a reset ,even tho it's not needed and I am running smooth with 3 screens not a single issue. I did set the global setting in Nvidia Control panel to single performance monitor that seemed to clear up all my issues. But alas the games is at best mediocre not very open world as I was hoping it to be. Save you $'s if you haven't bought it not worth $60 IMO wait for it to go on sale.

ATI 5870 users: NO FREEZING, NO GLITCHES FIX!
Using RAGE Optimized drivers. Preview 2 should work 100% as well.
Add +jobs_numThreads 0 to Rage-shortcut. NO NEED TO DISABLE CATALYST AI.
You WILL have to disable TRIPLE BUFFERING from ATI options, otherwise you will CRASH every time you start the game.
Google for proper RAGECONFIG.CFG to add to the \base\-folder.
Add similar launch commands to the shortcut.
100% guarantee it will work.
Do NOT disable CatalystAI from profiles.xml!

I have fixed mine , go to your steam folder and go to rage and then the base folder and make a file call rageconfig.cfg and save it there and then inside the file copy and paste this:
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"
and then just load up rage and it is all fixed, and also that unlocks the high resolution pack :) hope that helps

Ok ONE MORE IMPORTANT thing!!!! In rageconfig.cfg file set "seta vt_maxPPF 16" ... it helped me alot with my 4 core Athlon X4 CPU. DO NOT set all 4 cores with value 64 even when you got 4 cores (!!!). The texture graphics arent that cool but i Think ID made a great game.

@galetteosucresama I can report on my 5870 that whilst it has reduced artifacting on character models, it's minor at best. They still flicker and artifact like crazy. Texture popup is unchanged and now there's a strange 25%-of-the-screen white flickering polygon distortion on and off that I'd not seen before.

make a file called rageconfig.cfg in your \steamapps\common\rage\base folder and add the following lines to it:
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"
That fixes the texture popin issue, it forces the textures into vram apparently.
If you get crazy artifacts and dissapearing characters turn off catalyst AI.

Diablo 3 is not going to be on consoles, i think (going to check that... later). And Crysis 2 was also ported to consoles not the other way around they just had to downgrade the graphics for consoles, and later (what, 2 weeks after the release.) they patched the game and gave us dx11 features.
And consoles are the main reason games are not advancing fast.

Considering how slow the game is running, it's more likely it's the comp's fault. Other videos also have similar issues, but nowhere near as bad. Get a better computer, or go get the console versions (if that's actually an option).

All other videos had minor issues that are only noticeable when you deliberately try to recreate the effect, and even then, it's minor that's completely unnoticeable during actual gameplay (although considering I've always been used to playing on lower end, budget PCs, my standards might be lower than normal).

@gameragodzilla It's not his computer dude. It's the game's engine and how it's configured out of the box. Fraps doesnt like Rage very much and causes more slowdown in the video. I don't have the best computer in the world, it's a medium gaming rig at best. My specs are Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR2 @ 667MHz, Geforce GTX 470 w/ 1280MB DDR5, Vista Home Premium x64 & 285.38 beta drivers. My game ran like this out of the box. With proper config editing, I've got it running 60fps with no pop-in

Don't bitch on a game when it's not the game's fault for technical issues. I played with no problem. I also seen others with no problem. There's something wrong with your graphics card, I'm guessing. I don't know. I'm not a hardcore PC gamer (hence why I don't have a very high-end PC in the first place), and even I don't have those problems

@AMagicWizard I haven't had problems. Many others haven't had problems. The reviews seem to be great except for a bunch of trolls bitching about this issue over and over again despite me and many others not having much issue. Megatexture allows for extremely large, unrepeating environments. If every texture was 100% rendered at all times, it will take up an extremely large amount of space. It's already spanning 3 discs on the Xbox 360, and that's not running at highest resolution.

The only texture clipping normally experienced by people is some texture loading at the edge of the screen if you spin the camera extremely fast. There is no way you'll notice the problem during actual gameplay. If your game is as bad as the video is showing, then something's wrong with the computer, not the game. There are plenty of videos with Rage working perfectly, so do some research and learn what you're saying before you start spouting crap.

It seems like your video is simply the problem at its worst, and people tend to notice and watch when things either go spectacularly right or (in your case) spectacularly wrong. Still, I remember reading an article showing that Carmack knew the PC version wouldn't be operating at 100% because it's going to be released along with consoles that obviously have less processing power due to be 7 year old machines. He talked about some "super texture" pack coming out, so stay tuned.

i got the game today, taking it back tonight to the store. major let down, peace of crap! Think about it. When would someone buy a new LCD TV for example, and when they get it home smoke comes out the back of it. 1) Open the default.cfg. Add the following lines.

2) Go to your main drive (usually C:) Users>YOURNAME>AppData>Local. Create folder "id software", inside that folder make a "rage" folder. Should look like this "C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\id software\rage". This creates a cache file on next run (check after).

How can any of you hate on this game and complain about it when your running a 5750 which is a budget card! If your a gamer save up for a better graphics card or stick to older games. I realize the recommended specs say you can run it but and in which case you are, when in the history of pc gaming has the system requirements ever meant that you could play it full bore?

@sluggripper Im not sure how much you know about this game, but this is the lowest I can set it at native resolution. This game has exactly 4 configurable graphic options. Gama, Resolution, Fullscreen and Antialiasing. Its designed to "detect and adjust to maintain 60 FPS" or some BS, so this is likely not "Full Bore"

Using the new "optimized driver" I am getting 80FPS with 8X AA, so its smooth as butter. But this still happens on mine. Its a poor excuse.
