@Ultimate: actually people *were* hurt, physically, by the attack. The Wired threat level article interviews one of the people who experienced a seizire as a result. Yet another misconception many have is that if you experience a seizire without injury (or death) then you were not harmed, but every seizure takes a physical toll on the brain. The way one neurologist put it for me is that each seizure can cause incremental brain damage. Many of us wonder when we'll hit a tipping point...
But, as sad as it is, that's just how the internet world is.
There is no way to control the way people behave online and the result is you have these heartless assholes, going all over the place venting hate and attacking people.
Thank you so much for this video. I would love to talk to you about your experience--I am writing a book at online harassment and bigotry. Thanks so much for commenting on our symposium on my article Cyber Civil Rights. Much thanks, Danielle Citron (you can see my web bio for my email address)
Thank you so much. I remember a group of people a few years ago trying, in your name, to get everyone to agree to ban all blog commenters not using real names. Some of them still cite what happened to you as a reason to foist a real name policy on everybody.
I am very glad to see that you yourself haven't fallen victim to the false belief that people magically behave themselves when using their own names.
The same flashing lights that trigger epilepsy also trigger migraines. You cannot believe how painful it is to see bright lights flashing, and if you already have a headache, just two or three flashes can make it even worse. If I have to drive by a car crash at night with police lights flashing, I hold my hand to block it from my eyes, that's how quickly it can bring on a migraine.

That's just terrible.
I hate to hear that.
