can someone help me out.. I have a tumbi and i had bought the sarangi stick (guj) out of nylon and not out of horse hair and i tried playing it but it didnt sound nothing like this can someone tell me what kind of strings i need to play like this?? Thanks.
u know coming back to this video a year later i actually question whether or not that's a tumbi. i'm pretty sure that's one of those 'toy' sarangis they make in india. it basically looks like a tumbi but it's got a thicker wire. i recognize the cylindrical shape of the drum at the end of it.
its a tumbi bro i have wun and i can do the same thing with my sarangi danda thing it makes the same sound as a sarangi although it is a tumbi annd the wire is not thicker it is a regular skinny wire try it :)
sorry about the mistake....may be the violinist wasn't playing it correctly. Anyhow, do you think a violin bow should work? Also, what is the tumbi tuned to? (E-flat, C-sharp,etc) thanks for the help.
thats great JK .... I will def. pick up a copy of your new album from the local bhangra store. I have one last quest, promise, what type of string are you using? (violin, Cello, guitar, etc.) I tried using a violin bow with a guitar E string and it sounds like crap. Really appreciate the help.

the only place i've seen it sold is in india.. but if u have easy access to a horse, just pull out some of its hairs and tie it to a piece of wood.

I don't think its horse hair. I tried a violin bow and I couldn't produce the sound at all. Any other suggestions would be great.

Sorry but it IS in fact Horse Hair. You also need the Resin they use for Violin Bows to get the friction on the string.
Good luck and Blessings

The Root note is C# Minor then down to B Major as personal preferance. LOL It's on my next album so don't try to steal it OK?

Sorry dud you won't get my albums from the Local Bhangra Store!!! Thats funny though. Try mandolin string. It's alot thinner.
