Thank you so much for the videos...i am trying to improve myself but I seem to be struggling in keeping mentally focused. I tend to be leading until the last moments of most matches and end the match losing having made stupid mistakes. how do you keep yourself from losing focus?
Great reports William ! Good luck and I hope you can show the results of your hard training at the 2012 Olympics in London ! Greets from Belgium and I'm looking forward for your next Journey ... JP.
Hi william, I'm also a table tennis enthusiast from Australia, and wish you all the best in your journey! Just maybe a uninformed comment from an amateur, but you might consider a few things to change in your posture, i.e. bending not so low on your knees and leaning a bit more forward. That will probably give you more speed on your front-back movement and also probably more control on your short game.
@tabletennisedge i dunno why an olympian is struggling/exhausted, these exercises should be nothing for you, now before you go on about how i've never done wat you've done, i run 8kms a day and a few hundred lunges with 16kgs dumbells on both hands, alongside with push ups and hundreds of sit ups, anyways my point is, if you are struggling with this try running 8 kms, it did help me with badminton and table tennis (surely) this should increase your endurance capacity significantly
@broro100 By your post it sounds like I've offended you broro100 so I hope you're not too upset with me. I wouldn't say your extnensive fitness routine would not help table tennis players however I will benefit more from improving my shots than I will from becoming the world's strongest human.
You have a good point that it's difficult for someone who hasn't done professional table tennis training to understand what it's like. In fact getting to a high technical level will allow you to push
@tabletennisedge lol no i'm not offended, just wondering. i mean i play pre-national level badminton in thailand for U15, national level juniors of thailand earns gold medals and other medals in olympics. my training still isn't as tough as those national level players. one arguable benefit from fitness is that it would create a more stable posture for evey sport, i've certainly gained more speed, strength, stamina and control from it which lead me to a victory again pre national tt players.
@broro100 more out of your body. Table tennis is primarily a skills / mental sport with fitness coming in third place. High level table tennis uses very specific body movements and positions. Sure, run if you feel like it but it will not be the difference in becoming world champion or not and will have limited benefit in allowing you to train table tennis for 5 hours, multiple days in a row. Thanks for your time broro100.
@tabletennisedge and on the other note im criticizing you on the fitness factor not the mental factor, i'm simply pointing out ways in which i think would help you in your physical capabilities since you seemed to be troubled by it. oh and i don't think it would affect your training, i train badminton 5:30-10:00 pm after 2:00-4:00 pm of fitness. and it didn't give me any trouble (but this can also be the effect of my higher recovery rate [45 secs to return heart rate]) but a perfect warm-up
@broro100 Try doing all those exercises while trying to play a extremely mental game. Best quote I have heard is "playing table tennis is like doing a hundred meter sprint while playing chess"
@pbsmick i lyk your metaphor as well as hyperbole, but, i've been playing pre national badminton for several years and table tennis a bit lower than pre national level. i used to play national level tennis when i was younger (12-13) though! now im stuck with IGCSE's... anyways all racket sports are heavily associated with mental conditions i know this first-handed, but i would refuse to agree with sprinting and playing chess is equivalent to tt. one is a mental sport, one is not possible.
@tabletennisedge and before you go on about fatigues and stuff along those lines, i'd say running long distances is a must to about all types of athletes, and if long distances help boxers with their endurance then no question will it help a table tennis player. now if you think im unreliable then you can ask yr coach dick (waldner??) see what he says. i hope my comment helps.
Don't lose too much weight though, otherwise you won't have muscles anymore ^^. Thanks for updating on a regular basis, your vids are always enternaining.
May Thanks William, It is a very nice experience, for an office worker like us isn't it?? :D
