Well with the new game out it seems Byakuren and co will very busy with Miko and her gang (the first touhou girls that actually feel evil just reading their backgrounds) and since one of them actually wishes for the erradication of youkai and not Reimu "extermination" I think this is a sign that there will be big troubles in paradise.

Cause, you know, Reimu's life being threatened so an evil spirit could have her power, the sun being blotted out by mist, spring being nonexistant, supermassive earthquakes, and a crazed hell-raven, nope, none of those were ever trouble in the least for Gensokyo.

@yoshiothehedgehog Well to be fair Reimu was the one who started everything back in the first game when she attacked Mima thinking she was the one who destroyed her shrine(Good old Reimu...he) Remilia motive to do that was to be able to party in the day SWR was done by a bored celestian but she did use one of her keystones to prevent earthquakes maybe with Okuu but she is no genious but this Miko's group you can bet they will not drink tea together with Byakuren.

as far as I can tell those very evil usurpators would pretty much just replace Reimu in leading. Through out all of Touhou games I have yet to see any commoners from the village bitching about being doomed and stuff nor any of them praising Reimu for saving the day so yeah... that would be just one lady with the leash passing it to another.

@DzoGavert But I thought it was made clear pretty early on that if Reimu dies unexpectedly, the Great Hakurei Barrier has a huge possibility of dissapearing, thus destroying Gensokyo as well. That's why the spellcard rules were put in place to begin with - so incidents could be resolved without Reimu actually dying if things went awry. Reimu can't really be replaced, she'd more like have to choose and heir of sorts, the most logical way being through continuing her bloodline.

@yoshiothehedgehog In addition, there's Fantasy Heaven. Or more specifically, her ability to float away from reality whilst still unloading bullets everywhere. If it weren't for the Spellcard Rules, apparently no one would be able to beat Reimu. I'm not sure how it stacks up against the abilities of other touhou characters, but I do think it's something Zun said. Might be mistaken though.

@DzoGavert Rinnosuke -does- put up with Reimu and Marisa outright shoplifting from him for a reason, ya know. And yes, as yoshio pointed out, if Reimu dies, the Hakurei Barrier goes down. Not to mention Yukari enacts horrible graphic revenge on the person who killed her.

as far as Im concerned nobody really died yet in Touhou. Maybe Im wrong but most of the villians up till now were aware who Hakurei Maiden is. I dont think any of them... (well maybe Remilia if she caught a charisma break) would afford a brainfart and allowed her to die. Defeating someone and killing someone are two seperate things. I'm fairly sure no one would kill Reimu but disable her to cross her out as a threat.

I see a lot of people saying how Byakuren's all saintly while others are just selfish bastards and whatnot, but even the youkai who aren't necessarily evil (Mystia, Wriggle, etc.) still eat humans, and Byakuren protects them all even knowing that, while the others protect their own kind. The other characters aren't as bad as people are making them out to be just because they aren't as 'nice' as Byakuren is.

Byakuren's a saint, yes, but the mikos get far more hate than they deserve.

Byakuren...the most self-less individual in Gensokyo.

She and Her crew rank among the top for my favorite characters. (I'm a stubborn ⑨, go figure.)

The Mikos are indeed selfish, to a fault, but they are doing their jobs. That is hunting youkai. So they find it ridiculous that anyone would protect them.

However, they have to realize not all youkai are evil. They change too. Minamitsu Murasa. She used to sink ships for fun, but she redeemed herself because Byakuren was kind.

The mikos are bitches. They hunt youkai for no apparent reason. Half the time they're not even doing anything. Byakuren certainly didn't do anything to merit a fight.

@LReaper9 Thats false, the red and white miko never killed any youkai, she just keep them out of trouble, shes actually friends with a few. And the green miko's shrine is one for gathering the faith of youkai. You got the learn the "Nanoha befriend method" - befriend after beating them.

@LReaper9 Byakuren 's problem is she does not understand the situation in Gensokyo. Canonly there are far more Youkai then humans for instance on one side there are hundreds of youkai rabbits in the bamboo forest the Tengu and Kappa are implyed to have reather large populations, the Oni have a city underground, there are more fairies then dirt on the other there is A human village. Basicly there is no way for what Byakuren thinks is happening (the humans are opressing the youkai) to happen

Mist bloting out the sun not only makes problems with groing food it could also piss off flower youkai. someone stilling spring again effects a lot of "people", moon that is driving people insane thats bad, why the hell are there somany ghosts around might be a problem, someone stealing the source of power that keeps Gensokyo around, ect

@togaka3: Indeed, Byakuren doesn't understand the situation. Because she's been sealed for a thousand years. And when she got sealed, youkai were getting *massacred* like zerglings. She got sealed protecting them, probably knew that youkai were about to be extinct at that rate. Seeing Mary and Renko's world, she was right, too.

And a thousand years later, finally free, here come these humans telling her that she's "helping the strong" by helping youkai. Well no wonder she doesn't believe them!
