If you're taking all your vitamins and calcium citrate, getting in all your protein, drinking enough, etc., and when you get your bloodwork done, things look good - I wouldn't worry too awfully much. I have an extremely low BMR. EXTREMELY. Prior to WLS, on an 1100 calorie a day diet, with 6 days a week strong exercise, I lost 1/2 lb in 6 weeks. 1/2 lb! I've lost slowly after my VSG, too (in relation to others). My cals for loss? Bout 850 to 950 a day, or I stall. Yep. Me too.
every body is different and it seems like people just don't get it. guidelines aren't for everyone, they're for the average person. i'm not average. & neither are you. i get in at least 100oz of water a day, not including other fluids, at least 80g of protein, all my vitamins & minerals. i think i'm healthy. i maintain at around 850 cals. not normal. after over 1.5 yrs, i know the numbers & have played around w/them & know what works for my body. i'm not hungry or deprived. thanks for the info!
Are you still taking all your vitamins, iron and calcium citrate everyday? I ask because i dont get hungry and i dont eat right sometimes. i worry about it though.Take care of yourself. are you going to Vegas?
Girl tell me about it I have stayed at 170 for ever and I am 5 years out already!!! but your so right it is a sucess!!! thanks for this video it helps so much I have hope woo hoo...love rosemary
sometimes i think we get stuck on what we haven't accomplished (like goals that involve arbitrary numbers) and don't realize what we actually have accomplished. =)
i know. =( i don't understand why my body sucks. i mean, i maintain on 850 calories. that's my average caloric intake for the past 1.5 years. no loss or gain on that amount. to lose more, i have to go below that, i'm figuring out. i've been eating around 550-600 on average the past 2 weeks, with one day at 425. you'd think the weight would just melt off being that low. but, it's been slowly creeping down the past 2 wks. well, no actually, 3 wks. lost 6 lbs in 3 wks. you'd think it'd be more.
Could you - just for shits and giggles - eat 1400 or so calories for a week - and see what happens? You may be surprised! Eating THAT little can seriously damage you. :(
no. my range is usually 800-1000 a day without even watching what i eat. i just log and move on with my day. occasionally i'd get up to 1200 here and there if i indulged and i'd immediately see weight creep up. i'd look over my log, see what the culprit was, cut it out, and the gain disappears. my BMR is very low apparently. but, the 1st surgeon i went to said that we'll maintain on 1000 daily after we get to goal. i'm not even at goal yet. but before, i wasn't even trying to be below 1000.
to maintain on 850 cals is NOT NORMAL. i need to get my BMR up and add muscle so i can eat more and not gain. i refuse to gain weight. i'm not militant about what i eat, i just log it and move on. but if i start to gain weight, i'll become militant about it.
That's what I am saying - 850 isn't normal to maintain 170ish lbs. I maintained about that weight on 1500-2000 calories, with some days dropping lower. To lose -- I do have to drop drastically, but that usually means dropping to 1200.
I hope to be like you. I have never been the same weight ever in my live for more then 2 months at a time. I am going to be in the 170s very soon. I have never been in the 170s. I am going to be maintain soon or trying to at least. I just hope to be like you and stay the same weight for a year or more!!!
if i can do it, anyone can do it! just make sure you have good habits to set you up for maintenance. it's been nice not worrying about weight gain. if i stayed in my calorie range and made good choices, the weight stayed the same. if i went past 1000 cals a day to near 1200 (i've never been above 1200 postop), the scale would creep up a bit. i've weighed myself daily for 2.5 years and logged my food daily for 2.5 years. now, i'm starting to eat less (but still healthy) & it's coming off again.
Great video, thanks for making it. It's nice to know that the weight loss can continue even past the 2 year mark. Good luck with your classes this semester.
thank you! i just don't want people to think that they need to eat really low calories. my body is very different than most people's. what works for me won't work for others.
that's what i'm wondering. it's easy for me to eat these low calories right now since i'm not at home during the day this semester and i rarely get hungry. but what happens after this semester and i start eating my normal 850 calories? do i maintain this loss or gain to 171-174 again? looking at my logs, i had 810 cals yesterday and the day before. i haven't lost anything new. still 167.2. gonna experiment and eat around 550 today like i have for the past 2 weeks or so & see if it goes down.
when i was doing research pre-op, it always shocked me how low many post-op's bmr s were. i always thought it was because of the surgery, but my dr assured it wasn't. I hope you continue losing without having to go so low calorically. but i guess it's like you said, everyone's body is different. keep us posted if you have the time.
i know! my 1st surgeon (that i get my nutritional info from) said that to maintain, most of us need to eat just 1000 cals. i was shocked back then! my surgeon (that DID the surgery) refuses to talk calories. he says that as long as i'm satisfied and eating the right things and getting in at least 64g of protein in, don't worry about calories. my body works at very low caloric intake, but i'm still worried about how low is too low?. i estimate my BMR is 1200, but i need to get it checked in a lab
I have been thinking about you and was delighted to see your video. Yay for your loss...I'm so excited for you. Yippee..sucks it has to be at such a low calorie intake.. I just had emergency surgery a week ago..ugh...in rough shape. Watch my video(s) if you get a chance for an update. I do have a new channel do to some weirdness awhile back. Well good seeing you. Glad you are on the losing path..I'm so excited for you! Shan
oh no! emergency surgery? what happened?? i'll go check your video out. it does suck to lose at such an ungodly low amount of cals.i feel fine, but i'm worried about WHY my body functions on less calories than most people. i'm only eating 250-300 cals less than my normal average (for the past 1.5 years). i say 400-600 cals in the video, but there was one day in the last 2 weeks that i ate maybe 425 cals, but i included it as a range since i did eat that low for one day.
it sucks. according to my logs for the past 3 months (cause i don't want to go back for a whole 1.5 years), my average calorie intake has been around 850. and that's when i've maintained! the past 2 weeks, my calories have averaged 250-300 calories less than the above average for the past 1.5 years (around 550-600 mainly). when i'd gain a bit above my fluctuation, cals were always around 1000-12000. my body just functions on less calories than most. and it's VERY disturbing to me as well.
Great to see you on here again! I am a newbee, and I am still a pre-op. I have watched all of your vids, and appreciate them so much. Congrats on the loss. Stay happy and healthy!!
honestly, me too. my body is not efficient at all. i maintain on low calories already. i rarely get up to 1200 cals. anywhere from 1000+ cals and i risk small gain. to lose anything, they have to be cut significantly. my body isn't normal and never will be unfortunately. but, i feel like i'm getting all of my nutrients (at least 80g of protein a day, tons of veggies, all vitamins) so i'm not starving my body of them. my surgeon told me not to go over 1000 cals to maintain.
How exciting to see the scale move down again! :) I don't see anything wrong with taking in that low of calories as long as you are keeping up with your vitamins and water intake. That's all we really need anyway right?! Good for you :) Nice to see you again too!!
i kind of see the problem with low calories. we need calories and good carbs to function. i may be starving my body. but, i get tons of protein in (more than most people), tons of nutrients from veggies, all my vitamins... it's not like i'm intentionally starving myself. i'm just eating less (and not even noticing!) and cutting out the bad carbs. i wish i could eat the good grains and stuff, but pouchie violently hates them! i eat lean proteins, & veggies. pretty much what we're supposed to eat!
I know I already said this on twitter, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! (and your hair looks so pretty in this vid!)

yep! multiple times a day daily! i get in around 80g of protein and 100oz of water as well, plus healthy veggies.
unfortunately, i can't make it to vegas. i wish i were going though!

nope, not in a lab. i have no idea who does it around here. but, when i go to my surgeon's office, his printout says that my BMR is 1300 something.

@meltingmamamelted i am 5'9" and i GAINED 5 lbs on 1400 cals/day. actually, i gained 5 lbs on 1250 cals/day.
so now i am up 5 lbs and my body is used to the extra calories and i have to figure out how i am going to cut back to 1000 cals/day.
my bmr was just tested twice -- the second time was to verify the awfully low result from the first test.
vortexshedding 2 years ago
I believe it - I do. (I've gained 20-30 lbs just in the last year.)
meltingmamamelted 2 years ago
Oh, what was the low result?? Mind sharing?
