the slow level is by a service person who cant figure out how to set the run to level speed valve so he or she over corrects the level speed and it takes for ever
Cumberland Mall was very cutting edge when it opened in 1973, and this was the centerpiece of a very extreme modern center court done "Logans Run" style. There used to be a waterfall that dropped down around the base of an elevator, and it was surrounded by a large indoor lake where elevated walkways connected shoppers to the elevator across the lake. The elevator used to go up three floors to a round balcony that was removed in 1989. This looks to be the same elevator as then...truncated.
Back in '94 when I was at that mall, that same elevator was there. I got in to head up to floor 2, and the elevator missed the floor switch, ending up hitting the end-of-travel at the top with the loudest bang. It then slowly came down to level at floor 2. As I got off, the maint guy was there and put up an 'out of order' sign. D'oh.
The elevator is just cavitating at the top floor, that means the tank oil level is low thus the pump is sucking in air causing the noise heard on the video. Death Trap??? Certainly not!!! Minor maintenance issue yes.
You know, no matter how many times you press the button it won't come any faster. Also, you need to learn how to hold a camera, it's like seeing through the eyes of someone with severe ADD.
oh hell no the old elevators are the best and they are far more reliable than the new crap thats made today. Dieselducy made a video of the old nursing home in the gunanhimer and built 900 years ago didnt eve break and still works. and elevator made today would be lucky to last 20 years
whats happened that in 1973, when the elevator Technology wasn't as advanced as today, they tried an odd shape. the result was that, an elevator that isn't very good
The worst elevators I've been on are at the Dobie Mall parking garage, since it's noisy, rough, and smelly, along with the RiverCenter Parking Garage, which is slow, bumpy, and takes forever.
wow are you seriuous its like the old ones you have but the ones you videotape run alot better and this one like musicfreakcc said theres no excuse for that noise or how loud the motor sory for my huge comments

Correction to Description: Cumberland Mall is located at the North-West corner of Atlanta.
With an elevator that slow, you'd be wise to heed the sign "In Case Of Fire Use Stairs" LOL

Old elevators are sucks, and that means like to death-trap, so be careful.

Hydrualics that are really good ought to date back to as late as the late 1980s.

why is it a death trap ? pointless video !
jgbot2007 3 years ago
Listen to the motor - if you have good speakers, you can really hear the hydro pump's stress while going up.
musicfreakcc 3 years ago
And the main dish is when slowing down on arrival at the top floor. Loudest noise at slow mode is extremely abnormal.

That corner for no apparent reason does have one. Guide rails...

That elevator has a bad motor.

Wow, that thing is slow as hell. It looks real nice, all it needs is a good modernization.

That sure is one cool looking elevator, but a rather sick ride.

When you said about the ThyssenKrupp Synergy replacing the Dover Death Trap, I think this one should be replaced with a Gen2 elevator.

This elevator travels at leveling speed for maximum speed.
