@DreamerGirl54 If one more person compares this song to Mariah Carey's song, I am disabling comments. For the 500th and LAST time, IT IS NOT THE SAME SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@seanh1997v2 well I dont know how exactly I could break it down for you...hum you see I said Mariah Carey's version is better. Thats it nothing else to understain. But you see it was actually a joke because the uploader said that Maria Carey's song and this one are two different songs! He was annoyed of the people comparing those two. So he said: If one more person compares this song to Mariah Carey's song, I am disabling comments. SOOOOOO as a joke a replied to his comment. The end.
I first heard this song on country radio and loved it immediately. A different version, with male voices, appeared on a 1996 WCBS compilation Christmas CD. It was sung by Santa's Doo Wop Helpers (Joel Katz, Johnny Maestro, Larry Chance & Bobby Jay). I love both versions.
Both this and Mariah's are good, but I have grown to like this one way better. I don't even like country, but this song is an exception. In fact, LITE FM, the NYC Christmas station on the radio, played this version far more than Mariah's. I have heard remakes of this version and none pale in comparison. The same can be said for Michael Buble's re-make of Mariah's
This woman does what she does best. She tries to look prettyl The one and only original singer and by the way a fantastic lady, is miss LISA LAYNE . Now were talking talent..
There may have been many people who sang this song and there may be some as good but I don't see how it gets any better than this. Merry Christmas from North Carolina!!!!!!!!
To Maureen712, the song your thinking of is : My Heart Belongs To Only You by Mary Swan that was released by the way on Swan Records in 1958 and was a Bandstand staple until it was found Dick Clark had a part ownership of the label. It's on you tube in a couple spots also.
This song sounds like a golden oldie that I haven't heard for a long time. It will bother me until I come up with the title. If this song sounds familiar to you, please reply to me (so I get notified). I don't think it's a Christmas song. It goes, "You are the ........I .... ... ........ It's a slow song. It could have been sung by Teresa Brewer or a singer on "Your Hit Parade." That's all I can remember. No big deal, it will just drive me crazy til somebody thinks of it. ;-{ Thanx!
A lot of current singers have recorded "All I Want for Christmas Is You". It is the same version as this video, but they all pale in comparison. This is my favorite Christmas song. On one of the Country Sirius stations they have played this song at least once a day. It's great.
Love This Song One Of Our Favorites . On today for sure Hubby & I are celebrateing our anniversary 49 years and we still Love each other as if it were 49 years ago and all i want for Christmas is him
This song was released in 1989 on the country charts and re-released in 1993 as a pop song, still a year before Mariah's song of the same title. Otherwise, like many others have said, it is NOT the same song. This tune is considered a one hit wonder with singer Lisa Layne and should be in NO WAY compared to Ms. Carey's of 1994. They are rockin' the poofy hair and poofy sleeves!
The songs are not the same !! Vince Vance & The Valiants version was written by Troy Powers & Andy Stone ---- Mariah's version was written by Walter Afanasieff & Mariah Carey.
Both are good but Lisa Layne's vocals on the Vince Vance song are just hard to beat. The girl can sing !!
@HoboGus Hey now wai ta minute. Lisa Layne can definitely sing this song very well, lest not be ragging on Mariah carrey's version which is has an upbeat tempo to it. Mariah carrey can definitely sing! Hell, she even broke Elvis Presleys' Billboard record for 17 # 1 songs. In my books, both Lisa Layne & Mariah Carrey each do an excellent job singing this song in their own way.
Also Merry Christmas to all throughout the world from the great city of Pittsburgh PA!!!
That guy with the tall hair is Vince Vance... very nice guy..love to go see his shows..tons of fun!! This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Hope your holiday is wonderful V.V. and the V's :)
WHAT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE? This song is a different song than the one by Mariah Carey. Yes, they have the same title, but Mariah WROTE her own "All I Want for Christmas Is You" song that is on her 1994 "Merry Christmas" album. Mariah's version is NOT a cover of this. It's a completely different and original song that happens to have the same title. The only other popular artist who has covered this version by Vince Vance and The Valiants is LeAnn Rimes on her Christmas album.
Bought the CD just for this song ---- absolutely love it ---- play it alot this time of year. I know there are many songs with this title but this is my all time favorite. pretty lady, and strange hair.
We have a local band with a fantastic girl singer who sounds exactly like this and a tremendous sax player. have tried to get them to do this but no success yet. Guess the CD will have to do.

Yup, the Mariah song is fine. The only problem is that EVERYBODY covers that song, and NOBODY covers this one. This one has much more emotional content too. Passion. Nice.
@tboy24 I know it's not the same song. As a child of the 80's I got to hear Shania and Mariah do their song and The Valiants do this song. I don't need to have people keeping on with the whole thing comparing the two...APPLES AND ORANGES...if you're smart, listen to them back to back. Not a single lyric matches except for the title. @tboy24 Narrowminded vulgar people always think that everyone else is stupid, vulgarity is a very poor expression of ones self. Its a beatiful Christmas song as well as many others.
@thebogeymaniscoming If you had taken the time to listen to the two songs, you would know they are not similar in any way. It is plain you are only looking at the song's titles and assuming they are the same song. I would suggest you buy yourself a new hearing aid battery and install it right away.
@punkvictim As I responded to tboy yes I know the two are different. I refer to them as versions because they have the same title. I was born in 1982 so when both Vince Vance and Mariah put out their respective singles I got to hear them. All credits to Mariah for the arrangement and lyrics for her song, but listen to the two songs and you'll notice that her chord progression is a transpose of Vince Vance's. Also notice the Valiants did this originally in 1989. Mariah not until 1993.
@1sleepingdragon I love both this song, and Mariah Careys song. Both are great, but yes, they are 2 completely different songs with the title in common.
While I agree this song is better than Mariah' song, they are 2 different songs. This is not another version of of the same song. yes, they have the same title, but the melody and lyrics are totally different. They have different song writing credits. They are not similar. This song was written by Troy Powers & Andy Stone (AKA Vince Vance). Carey's song was written by Mariah Carey & Walter Afanasieff. It is not the same song. Open your ears!!!
This is it! I was fortunate enough to see the whole company on stage at Christmas time some years ago at one of the Casino boats in the New Orleans area. My favorite seasonal song of all time! Thanks for the post.
I also feel its the best version of this hit. Mariahs version is to bubblegum and is so over played. I had a hard time finding this version. Buit I'm glad I did.
This is my favorite version of this Christmas song!! Lisa Layne has an incredible voice!! I always look forward to hearing it every year at Christmas time!!
i love this song. this has become my fave Christmas song, besides Silent Night. not every girl wants material things for Christmas. if i had a bf right now, everything else would be nice to have, but just to have someone is way more exciting!
@MrKaraokeCowboy yes it is Lisa Layne doing the vocals... heard that she is the cosmetics girl in the vid, but you can't really get a good enough look to say yea or nay... by the way, Merry Christmas
Never considered this a country song, but it is one of my favorites anyway! She really does sing the hell out of it, and no one else does it as well. And the sax player does need to be recognized. The insert in the CD lists Jim Horn on tenor sax.
I saw this video back in the early 90's on CMT and I've never found a better version done by anyone. I had it on videotape, but when VCR's went bye bye, so did my chance of seeing it. Youtube made it possible again. Every year near Xmas I make sure to listen to and watch this video. I love, love, love it. Merry Christmas everyone!
A true classic for Christmas, this song is! And it's my favorite version of this song! I wouldn't have a good Christmas without hearing this tune! I've heard it on the radio every December back in the 90's.
There is no 1. Knock your hypocritical classiness off. I have always liked this song & my xmas is gonna suck so quit bein a damn baby. YOU wanted me gone YOU wanted me out of your life YOU dont need me YOU dont want me & YOU told me to leave YOU the hell alone!!!! Grow up!!
I may be completely wrong about this, but aren't this song, and the one one by Mariah Carey, two completely different songs that just happen to have the same title and themes? There's no real similarity between the tunes and lyrics. In fact, if they didn't have the same title, I don't think anyone would be comparing them at all. After all, how many chircistmas songs can you think of where the basic message is 'I like christmas, but would rather spend it with the person I love'?
@TwisterCabaret V.Vance wrote this song in 1987, in 1989 was recorded as a single in Nashville, played mostly on C+W stations. In early 1993, Vance took this song, added 8 more he wrote & 2 standards (White Xmas & Winter Wonderland) for album titled "All I Want for Xmas is You" released mid-Oct that year. Mariah wrote & recorded her same named song in summer of 1994, it was released Nov'94, but this song hit #1 in Dec'94 even after Carey's was released. Mariah's is Pop, totally different
@TwisterCabaret That's what I was totally thinking. They don't sound the same, lyrics are different, different audiences. Same title doesn't mean people have to constantly compare the two when it's obvious that they are REALLY different. I personally prefer Mariah Carey's, only because I've heard it all of my life (plus, so many artists do remakes of her version), but this one does sound amazing and stands out by itself as its own song. :)
I loathe this song. WDRC plays it all the time for Christmas. It makes me cringe with her straining her voice to the max, I pictured this cheap looking chick dressed in black very mid 1980's so very desperate for some stupid guy........... "I dont' need "spensive things " hey lady learn to pronouce stuff before you sing it!
I think that this is one of the most UNDER RATED Christmas songs of all time! It's so great -- the voice, the feeling, the sentiment is PERFECT! Plus -- it's sexy! It's got everything and MORE than Mariah Carey's song of the same title... :-) It's on the top of my Christmas song list every year. I don't know who Vince Vance is -- but Lisa Lange -- you are GREAT!!!!!
Gosh dammit, I had to freaking break through all those Mariah Carrey versions to find this song. I don't even really like her version, it's... Bleh. Too... I don't know, computerized? Over done? Something.
my last name is vance..cool!!

Regarding this song and the similarly titled Mariah Carey song:
1) This song is sung by Lisa Layne;
2) The lady in the video is Lori Nunn.
3) The melody is a modified version of Bobby Vinton's "My Heart Belongs Only To You."
4)The most notable cover of this song was by Leann Rimes.
5) The Mariah Carey song has been covered by numerous singers including Michael Buble and Shania Twain.

Why are y'all comparing this to Mariah's song? It's not even the same song. Just the same title.

I also feel its the best version of this hit. Mariahs version is to bubblegum and is so over played. I had a hard time finding this version. Buit I'm glad I did.

@MrKaraokeCowboy yes it is Lisa Layne doing the vocals... heard that she is the cosmetics girl in the vid, but you can't really get a good enough look to say yea or nay... by the way, Merry Christmas

I will never get sick of this song at Christmas time! This version puts Mariah Carey's version to shame...Hate to say it, but it's true!

And by the way, who's the sax player?

You need to add the singer's name along with yours.
Billysea62040 1 month ago
A true classic for Christmas, this song is! And it's my favorite version of this song! I wouldn't have a good Christmas without hearing this tune! I've heard it on the radio every December back in the 90's.

When this video came out, I just loved it. Now it seem kinda corny. But I love how she sings.
cjlame1 1 month ago
I may be completely wrong about this, but aren't this song, and the one one by Mariah Carey, two completely different songs that just happen to have the same title and themes? There's no real similarity between the tunes and lyrics. In fact, if they didn't have the same title, I don't think anyone would be comparing them at all. After all, how many chircistmas songs can you think of where the basic message is 'I like christmas, but would rather spend it with the person I love'?
TwisterCabaret 1 month ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@TwisterCabaret V.Vance wrote this song in 1987, in 1989 was recorded as a single in Nashville, played mostly on C+W stations.
IrishLinB 1 month ago
@TwisterCabaret That's what I was totally thinking. They don't sound the same, lyrics are different, different audiences. Same title doesn't mean people have to constantly compare the two when it's obvious that they are REALLY different. I personally prefer Mariah Carey's, only because I've heard it all of my life (plus, so many artists do remakes of her version), but this one does sound amazing and stands out by itself as its own song. :)

If one can't say something nice
One should not speak at all.
I love this song, Christmas would not be the same without it.

I loathe this song. WDRC plays it all the time for Christmas. It makes me cringe with her straining her voice to the max, I pictured this cheap looking chick dressed in black very mid 1980's so very desperate for some stupid guy........... "I dont' need "spensive things " hey lady learn to pronouce stuff before you sing it!
definitedoll 1 month ago
I think that this is one of the most UNDER RATED Christmas songs of all time! It's so great -- the voice, the feeling, the sentiment is PERFECT! Plus -- it's sexy! It's got everything and MORE than Mariah Carey's song of the same title... :-) It's on the top of my Christmas song list every year. I don't know who Vince Vance is -- but Lisa Lange -- you are GREAT!!!!!
karenbrennaberino 1 month ago 3
nice song but the video is corny! Check out the hair-has to be late 80's or early 90's when it came out.

Can you say, lip sync? The girl in the vid isn't the one who's singing it. I don't know why they didn't have the original singer do it.
