  • Genius!

  • What a gorgeous assortment of extraordinary quotes and passages - thank you for taking the time to do this for us all

  • Dear Polyphony - why don't you try something really fast, with slower moving quotes? Also, why stop at two clips? This was great. Thanks!

  • Gould's quote regarding the purpose of art, (ending):

". . . is rather, the gradual , lifelong construction of a a state of wonder and serenity." This is like Spinoza: "The free man was born neither to laugh nor weep, but to view the eternal order of things with calm and steadfast mind."

  • magnifique!

  • fugue in c sharp minor of wtc I, I suggest.

  • Hmm. That very last quote was, well, simply, true.

  • Just wonderful!

  • Excellent. Gould the thinker and writer is, for me at least, 95% of the reason for my devotion towards him. The fact that he was an absolute master of the piano is simply icing on the cake.

This video was a really good idea. I'm looking forward to your second one.

  • Thanks. Do you have any suggestions for the music for the second one? I'm considering Cp1 from The Art of Fugue, or maybe Var 15 (canon at the 5th) from the Goldbergs.

  • I think the 1981 recording of Variation 15 would work very well. But I think any piece with a slow tempo could be good.

  • merci' poli
