Hi there great work and video, I was just wondering.. i cannot build this sump filter you built, so i was wondering if the aqueon proflex sump filter model 1 would work for this?
@s2ktuner thanks! as for your question: possibly... I'm just not familiar with that model so as long as it has a good capacity and a powerful pump it should be OK. :)
Hi there, what model of eheim universal pump are you using? my betta barracks (to be) is 7foot tall but im concerned that the pumps which can deliver water this high are too powerful (1100litre+ per hour) that its going to be too much water pumping into each compartment. my barracks is basically the same design as yours :) so what would you recommend? I can see yours is a model of the universal pump but the eheim website says the deliver hight is <4ft is it good enough or should i get a compact?
@Monkies8utt the UV lamp goes AFTER the sump filter (not before it) as the dirty water from the tanks provides beneficial bacterial cultures that support the biological filtration system. Water coming out of the sump filter must then be sterilized (by the UV lamp) before it goes into the betta tanks. :)
@ForumBoosters I have never had any problems with Styrofoam whatsoever and neither have thousands of betta breeders worldwide. In fact, Styrofoam is often used in aquariums and it is recommended as one of the main support materials for bubblenests (aside from IAL). Anyway, the water coming from the sump filter has to travel through the UV lamp, thereby negating any possible chemical contamination, which I remain skeptical of (from my own experiences over the years).
@mattsnyderbmx all together, I guess it cost around 500-600 euros to build. I haven't actually calculated the full price but it's somewhere in that region.
@fighter4111 they are not as good as plastic bio balls in my opinion because when they become clogged up with dirt you have to replace them which is about every 5-8 months wer as plastic you can just clean in fresh declorrinated water and re-use
@soulstreak the UV lamp kills any harmful bacteria in the water. It ensures that only clean / healthy water is coming from the sump to the tanks, which greatly helps to reduce the spread of disease and parasites. IMHO: all drip systems should have a UV lamp.
@soulstreak it kills everything that comes into contact with it good and bad bacteria , parasites in their free swimming stage any free floating algae (green water) aswell
should never be installed in the initial set-up of an aquarium but a few months down the line when the tank has cycled and filter is up and running
@truthsseeker777 the eheim 1260 pump is 2280 ltr/hr (602.3 gallons / hour). You definitely need a strong pump for this system, which is capable of producing enough pressure.
As you can see from the video, the water goes from the sump filter, through the pump, through the UV filter and then up the tubes into all the separate compartments. The UV filter has to come just after the pump, before the tanks, to kill all the bacteria going up the tubes.
Yes. It helps to prevent the spread of bacteria and diseases in a closed-circuit system, such as this drip system. Otherwise it's more likely that if one fish gets sick, they will all get sick.
@martyb0y1690 nope. the tanks themselves are not connected, they don't share any water at all... water goes directly from the sump, through the UV lamp, and into each separate tank. :)
how big is the sumpf? is a 80 cm tank or will a smaller thank do to?

@scentopink the sump tank i used was around 75 litres but you can use larger or smaller depending on your needs.

i need this drip system, but it sure looks like alot of work -____-
s2ktuner 6 months ago
@s2ktuner it is a bit of work to build but much easier to maintain than 30 separate jars - a dripsystem is a huge time-saver! :)

@DebbyLeo85 yea i'm currently on the seperate jaw system ;( i wish i knew you in real life, i would pay u to build me one o_O

Styrofoam is not good to use. It will leach chemicals into your water, which can kill your fish.

@DebbyLeo85 UV Sterilizers do NOT remove chemicals.

the ceramic pieces look like macaroni

@fighter4111 yep and they have plenty of surface area so they are great for building up a large colony of "good" bacteria. :)

hello
i am building something similar to your set up but the problem i am having is the my pump is not strong enough to push the water up,
how many gallons per hour is your pump?

@DebbyLeo85 if it was to prevent things spreading between the tanks then you would need one between every single tank
