No need to complicate this Geetaa verse, by reading in mithyaatva ! Based on the subject matter of verses 2.12 through 2.28, here's a 'more right' and stright forward meaning: asata: - for the perishable (the body), bhaava: - continual existence, na vidyate - is not known. sata: - for the unperishable (the aatmaa), abhaava: - non-existence, na vidyate - is not known. anayo: ubhayo: api - these two, dRshTa: anta: - were seen definitively, tattva-darSibhi: tu - by truth seers.
Based on the context of Gita verses 2.12 though 2.28 : asata: - for the perishable (the body), bhaava: - continual existence, na vidyate - is not known. sata: - for the unperishable (the aatmaa), abhaava: - non-existence, na vidyate - is not known. anayo: ubhayo: api - these two , dRshTa: anta: - were seen definitively, tattva-darSibhi: tu - by truth seers.

Mithtaatva/anirvacaniiyatva - is the notion that the world is neither real nor un-real.
But mithyaatva is not the subject matter of verse 2.16. ( actually 2.12 through 2.28).
mithyaatva is neither expressed nor implied in giitaa nor the veda-s.
