ZAppa, SYD, Beefheart, and Sonic Youth...are the main reason i tend not to be so serious in making songs..i need to have a humor about my playing and love playing for artistic creativity not money!!! or Fame bullshit!..Syd is a true artist great song writer and pop singer!
Barrett visited the psychiatric hospital at Fulbourn Cambridge, doctors could not conclude with certainty that he had Schizophrenia or other disorders and there was no treatment prescribed. This proves that some people fabricated many stories about Syd. Many people claim that he could no longer handle the fame and succes of the band. His behavior was against all odds as well as the other bandmembers and EMI were doing evrything to make them famous. They just decided to put him out of the band
@DnTTrix08 Barrett did not hypocritical about his drug use as many artists were doing at that time. Barrett had his own vision on things and most people did not understand him back then. Most people painted him as a poor helpless acid addict and declared him insane or shizofrenic. They just blamed all his problems to drug use.
@DnTTrix08 There are several people who knew Barett who are convinced that he was not crazy and that acid use was not the only cause of his problems. Jerry Shirley, Mick Rock, Twink and Jack Mock, Duggie Fields and even Syd's sister all talking in a different kind of way about barrett. A bad habit of people is to declare someone insane if we don't fully understand that person.
i think he was, i heard he liked the recent documentry made about him, also he must have been aware of the books and listened to the floyd songs written about him. he knew alright i think. i always wondered what it would have been like for him following floyd from his tv and radio as it turned into a monster, hard i think!
I know for a fact it was most definitely hard just from the documentaries I've seen and the stuff I've read. In a sense it must have been like being Pete Best when he was kicked out of The Beatles on the cusp of their worldwide success, with the exception that Syd truly was the mind, heart and soul of the Floyd at that stage. Add to that the feeling of betrayal because Roger and Dave were childhood friends. I know that Gilmour stayed somewhat involved in his life. I don't know about Waters.
Syd Barrett and unsung legend who will be remembered not for how cool he his or how he sold out, but for how he inspired those who didn't believe in themselves to rise up and take the pill and the weed and the L S D. The drugs do work! Listen to the music, judge for yourselves.
great video... syd would be proud of you!!!

I've always wondered if Syd was aware of the public fascination with his life and work in his later years.
